1. I have found that the tone I want has changed form a Rick sound to a P bass over the years and I am thinking of going to flats for the first time ever. I going from the clanky sound to old school thump, might be old age tho'.
2.
tried to do a search and got...
I got the same messege yesterday.
3. I did a tour of the Republic of Ireland in '98 with my last band. We were to play 8 gigs over 9 nights across the country. We arrived in Dublin for the 1st gig to find that one of the promoter's had gone bust and 5 of the gigs had been cancelled. That left us with the situation that we would make a profit of £30 each for all of the remaining gigs if we did not eat or drink for 9 days. My ex-wife was not impressed when our joint bank statement came through and found out how much the tour had cost her.
4. Thanks for your comments everyone, I'll keep you updated on my progress in the band. Looking forward to the next rehearsal.
5. Thanks for all the great comments guys, I'm still on a high. The RA has reared to head this morning in my plucking hand but it's worth it for the buzz I got at yesterday's jam. If all I'm going to get is a bit of discomfort the next day when I play then bring it on. Up until now I have not played for more than 30-40 minutes due to the pain but the new meds seem to be bringing benefits so happy days.
6. I had my first audition in 15 years today and I got the gig. 3 piece band playing blues and '70's rock. The guitarist does the vocals and his brother plays drums and I am now the bassist. I am sooo made up by this as I suffer from RA and I couldn't play for 3 years. It's only been in the last few weeks that I could practise pain free. Today I got a big blister on my middle finger of my plucking hand and it feels like a medal of honor. We jammed for 3 hours and it passed in a flash. I haven't played that long for ages and I loved every minute of it. The plan is to rehearse towards recording a few tracks for a limit run of CD's and doing a few fundraising gigs for charities. As I've posted before, I don't think that I would have even tried if it had not been for this wonderful forum. Thanks to everyone involved in running it and for the input of all it's members. Now cure me of GAS. I am now going to give a bottle of gin a good slap to celebrate.
7. Nice one Dave, I'm in a similar position. I've got my 1st audition for 15 yrs on Saturday and I don't think I would have bothered if it hadn't been for BC. I hope I don't blow it.
8. I had a fretless Rickenbacker 4001 in the early '70's and used it in a rock covers band for 2 years. Wish I still had it. I've played fretted ever since but would like to revisit fretless some time.
9. Cee Lo Green's band sound pretty good and tight. Nice bass sound. Shame about the hedgehog look.
10. Looking good Dave, more photos please.
11. I had a fretless Rickenbacker 4001 in 1973. Maybe I was the second person to use one.
12. In the late '80's I saw some of the guys from the Climax Blues Band backing a female singer at a nightclub in Stafford. The band played a couple of song on their own then the singer made her entrance from the back of the club, singing into a radio mic and dancing towards the stage. About 6 feet from the stage she slipped on a spilt drink and landed on her arse, the radio mic flew out of her hand and hit a punter at the bar on the back of the head. The band had to stop playing as they were pissing themselves and help the poor woman off the floor and onto the stage. The only person not laughing was the guy that got hit with the mic.
13.

Mr Soar. I'd forgotten that one, made my day. Thanks.
14. That looks really cool and I love the logo, can you post a better pic of it.
15. Hi Dave, Just stumbled across this thread and the old bass is looking good. Dave Wilson is making a great job of the refinish. can't wait to see the finished pix. Sam
16. I Like the P but the J looks wrong.
17. For piece of mind. it's always the Hiscox for me as I am a clumsy git.
18.
There was talk of one in the north West Midlands/South Staffs kind of area, seems to have gone cold; might start poking my nose for venues in a couple of weeks if anyone fancies one though.
Not been to a bass bash yet so I would be up for that.
19.
You're just one matching headstock away from achieving the impossible - turning a 5-string jazz with 5-in-line tuners into pure instrument porn. Get that headstock painted, man!
+1. It's got to be done, it would look soooo coool.
20. Very Salvador Dali looking but I would love to try one if they were ever made. File under Interesting.
21. I now own this Roger Waters '70's P bass built by cd_Dave. Hope he don't mind me using his photos, far better that any I could take. It plays great, looks fab and I am mad for it.
22. Thanks for this review, I was looking around for something like this as I need to get a good headphone practice amp. I think this will tick all my boxes. Cheers.
23. I took up DB at the age of 14 after playing piano for 4 years as I preferred the sound, bass guitar followed a year later. Still hanging in there. If I couldn't play bass anymore then it's back to keys for me.
