A heads-up for Stax night at the Proms this Friday. 10:15pm on BBC4. Line-up includes Eddie Floyd, William Bell, Sam Moore, Booker T, Steve Cropper, Tom Jones, etc. As it's Jools Holland's tribute I presume his will be the house band. I hope Mr Swift is recovered for this one. Also note that it's followed by "Hello Quo" at 11:45pm.

On 99% of bass amps and cabs all Speakons are wired the same using the 1+ and 1- terminals of either 2-pole (NL2) or 4-pole (NL4) connectors. These two types of connector are mechanically and electrically compatible. One of the exceptions to 1+/1- is some power amps and Ampeg SVT4PRO running in bridged mode which use 1+ and 2+ at the amp end but which still require 1+/1- at the speaker end. Some PJB cabs double up using 1+ and 2+ for one leg of the cable and 1- and 2- for the other leg. The Compact 4 only uses 1+/1-. I know because I used to have one. Some PA cabs with crossovers use the 2+/2- connections to drive either tops or subs depending where the crossover is located. I have had two cases where Speakon cables to MB LM2 amps have gone intermittent. In the first case it was solved by using a 4-pole Speakon instead of a 2-pole. The second instance was never fully resolved. I contacted Neutrik and they offered to provide a new combo socket however as a cheap Amazon sourced cable seemed to work so it was left like that. I have my suspicions that these early amps used very early versions of the combo Speakon/Jack and that either something is not quite right mechanically or that the contacts weaken over time especially when used with only jacks plugs. In the interest of trying to get to the bottom of the problem I bought a well use 1996 LM2 from a BC member which I now gig with. It works well however it did exhibit the fault on one particular cable. On examination I could find nothing wrong with the plug and certainly nothing wrong with the socket in the amp as it works faultlessly with any other cable. I'm afraid the Jury is out on this one. To the OP I suggest that you try a totally different Speakon lead. It should not matter whether it is 2-pole (NL2) or 4-pole(NL4). If this doesn't do it then I would have the amp combo socket checked by a reputable amp tech.
A Jaw Dropping copy from Behringer! Wow...
My thought exactly. Makes you wonder whether Behringer have taken over Fischer, have bought the design or are manufacturing it under license. If not it's straight plagiarism.

You should take into account that the exchange rate has moved in the pounds favour since you ordered and that BD have had your cash in their account earning interest over all this time. I can't imagine that they will have to pay B&M until 30 days after the Elfs (or is it Elves) are shipped to them.

Tough one this. Although the front rack fixing holes are to one of two international standards, the position of side fixings into the equipment are totally down to the equipment manufacturer who in almost all cases would have produced rack brackets to go with their equipment. I guess you have two options, either find a proper pair of Trace brackets or get some generic ones and drill some holes to suit your amp.

Petite daughter - best 3/4 bass guitar
obbm replied to applegarthmusical's topic in General Discussion
Perhaps something of this size would suit. This red Westfield has a 25.5-inch scale and is fitted with flats. It plays very easily and sounds great as those who saw it at last years SE bash can testify. I bought it for my Grandson but he is not particularly interested so would be prepared to sell. -
As far as I can remember Loud Inc was a small concern based in Northern Ireland. They were making these cabs about 10-15 years ago. The cabs were amazing value for money however for the suppliers ran into difficulties, deliveries became very erratic and they eventually ceased trading. I'm sure someone who was on Bassworld will be able to add a bit more. More info at http://basschat.co.uk/topic/27039-loud-inc-410-cab/

Having only recently moved to a Markbass LM2 head I've finally found my sound by having all tone controls at 0, filters off and tone shaping done by a Sansamp BDDI. Why has it taken me so long?

Another reason I got rid of it was that I sold my Ashdown rig and moved onto something else.

I foolishly bought one of these back in the day and eventually sold it on Ebay. Still have the ad photo.

vintage ampeg gear supposedly blows FOH generator at festival
obbm replied to belgamrood's topic in Repairs and Technical
It can happen in a theatre venue just as well. Some years ago I went to see Jules Holland and his big band at the old Civic Hall in Guildford. They'd just started and the moment the brass came in the power went off. This happened three times at which point the band were on the point of walking off but the technical crew replugged things and they finally got going. Most embarrassing. -
Paul dropped in on his way to RHS wisely to pick-up the Mesa Prodigy 4:88 he'd bought. An absolute pleasure to deal with. Many thanks.

EMS 19-inch Rack mounting flight case. 380mm useable internal depth. High pressure injection-moulded EMS rack cases are made from a tough, impact-resistant polycarbonate composite, similar to that used for car bumpers and crash helmets. A non-heat sensitive material, it does not buckle with hot equipment such as large power amplifiers. Obviously racks are extremely light in weight, yet their clever construction makes them rugged enough to withstand significant rough handling.... This case has been used and has a few battle scars to prove it but is still very serviceable. Collection only from GU10.

Congratulations to you both. Brilliant.

Anything digital will introduce delay. Analogue wireless is better. Copper to copper is best.
You're more than welcome to borrow one of my CN112's Dave. I don't need it for a while, so no rush.
Thanks for the offer Nick but I think I'm sorted for now. I've just got a couple of outdoor gigs coming up in August that will need a bit more oomph.
-
Thanks for the responses. Seems like a pair of 112EXTs is a good idea however I've decided that it is difficult to justifying the outlay on a new pair of VK just for the occasional gig. In the end I've opted for a used Berg EX112 from another BCer. It'll be interesting to see how well the cabs work together. About 10 years ago I used an Epifani UL112 with a T-112, a similar arrangement of Neo and non-Neo and that worked really well. It's a shame that the EX112 isn't just a bit lighter.
Donate them to the SE Bash raffle? I'm sure that somebody would want them.
You might think that but I took along a set of Bassist magazines to the 2008 Bash in Guildford and most were left behind and binned I believe. Interestingly there is a guy on Ebay selling individual copies at £4.99 each.

Complete set of Bass Guitar Magazine from Issue 1 to Issue 137 (Dec 2016) except for issue 5. Collection only as these are far to heavy to post so please don't ask.

Popped over to Ian's this afternoon to pick up a Berg cab that I'd bought from him. Reluctantly I couldn't stay to check out the basses in his collection or enjoy a cuppa but needless to say it was a faultless transaction and Ian is a great guy to deal with. Thanks.
