1. I've been using a Berg CN112 for a couple of years now and have been very happy with it. I have a couple of outdoor gigs coming up soon and was looking to get another however they have been discontinued and rarely come up for sale used so I am considering selling the CN112 and getting a pair of Vanderkley 112EXT. These have come out a my current preferred choice as they are light and front ported. I don't like cabs with rear ports, especially when used outdoors as I had a very bad experience with some Ashdown 4x8s many years ago and consequently have always avoided rear ported cabs. Has anyone ever compared the EXT112 to a CN112? Also what is user experience of the 112EXT? Alternatively what else is there that is small and light and will give a comparable sound?
2. In that case it's wired to put two 4-ohm cabinets in series creating an 8-ohm load to the amplifier. As far as I can see there should be no reason why you couldn't change one or all of the Speakons to jacks. You just need to be sure that everything is in-phase.
3. Is this a serial cable or a parallel cable Lozz?
4.
The mix sounds pretty good too, with some nice prominent bass (and we all thought the BBC didn't do bass).
Agreed. They are probably taking a feed of the stadium PA mix and therefore can't mess with it.
5. I was 21 and half way through a 16 week course at the BBC training centre at Evesham. My room mate got a copy as soon as it was released and it was played a lot at the BBC Club. He went on to become a sound mixer and his eventual claim to fame was mixing the Freddy Mercury tribute Concert at Wembley. He did all right. Happy days and it's still a great record.
6. Louis, let me know if you need any help with this.
7. If you think outside the box then a Sadowsky Metro UV70 is a possible alternative.
8.
Weird that the 410 is 8 ohms and the 210 4 ohms, but you have what you have...
That would be right. 4x10 is 4x8-ohms are in series/parallel. 2x10 is 2 x 8-ohms in parallel.
9. I used to play in a very loud blues/rock band using an Ashdown ABM500 head and 2 x Mini 4x8 Cabs. Rarely was there PA support and the only time I had a problem was playing outdoors because all the bass came out of the rear ports and disappeared. It made me vow never to have a rear-ported cab again, but that is probably a different discussion. Later I moved onto a pair of Epifani 1x12s and then a pair of Aguilar SL112s. Never had a problem with tone or volume.
10.
I'm looking for a price on 1/4 jack balanced feed cable (about 7m) - cant mail OBBM, haven't got Microsoft mail......anyone help?
You could try sending him a pm.
11. Steve recently bought my Mesa Boogie D800 amp. This was the second deal I've done with him and was faultless as always. Deal with total confidence. An excellent Basschatter.
12.
It puts the cabs in series - so the resulting load is 8 Ohm as opposed to the 2 Ohms it would be with them in parallel.
Nothing magic at all, just a simple bit of wiring. Input Socket (1+) -> Output Socket #1 (1+) Output Socket #1 (1-) -> Output Socket #2 (1+) Output Socket #2 (1-) -> Input Socket (1-)
13. Why not take your battery out and try it?
14. still available
15.
I've done a few over the years & always found them incredibly tedious from a bass playing perspective, but then I'm really not a fan of blues stuff.
In general I agree however it does depends very much on the house band. We are very fortunate that at one of the local Jams the members of one house band also gig in other bands so we can get non-12-bar non-Blues numbers which makes life interesting.
16.
The big difference between an open mic and a jam, to me anyway, is....at an open mic its usually playing a song with people you dont know, but you all have some idea about the song you agree to play, an old classic probably. At a , real to me, jam, someone comes up with a bass line or a chord progression and the rest follow, add there interpretation, and it expands, ebbs and flows to suit the musicians.
That's interesting because it's totally not what happens in my area. Open Mics, are for individuals and groups of performers. They usually book a time slot with the organiser and perform two or three numbers. It's an opportunity for the budding solo singer songwriter to air their works to an audience. PA is provided by the organiser. These have only taken off in the last few years. Jam Sessions are run by an Organiser and his House Band. This could be an established band or a group of musician friends. They provide the PA, drums and back-line and in most cases get paid by the pub. Musicians turn up with their instruments, make themselves known to the Organiser who puts them into bands for 3 or 4 numbers. Usually the designated singer will suggest the numbers and a short discussion ensues. Who knows it, what are the chords, etc. it's all very light-hearted and off we go. If you are a regular then you get to know the other musicians and their favourite numbers. Often you get to play something that you might have heard but have never actually played. It makes you think on your feet, watch the others and most importantly listen. If you get hit with a number that you'd like to play better next time then go home and learn it. There are musicians of all levels and one must be tolerant of the novices. We all had to start somewhere but it does get a bit frustrating if they don't know what a 12-bar is, or they try to slap a Blues. There are also those magic moments when the grouping clicks and it all comes together to the great appreciation of the audience.
17. Condolences to his family and friends.
18. bump for pictures added.
19.
It will have power as the singers will be using it so just thought I could hijack a spare channel and route the output to my speaker.
Unfortunately it doesn't work like that. The power amplifiers in the mixer will be driving the PA speakers. There will be no spare output to drive your cab.
20. Unless the mixer has integral power amps and you are not using both for PA, you will need a power amplifier in the chain. Your head contains a pre-amp and a power amp. The mixer would only replace the pre-amp section.
21.
Hi. Where are you based?
Between Farnham and Guildford in Surrey.
22. Retirement from regular gigging reluctantly means sale of my Mesa Boogie Subway D-800 Head includes: Soft case Power Cable Original Box This is an excellent amp which is in top condition and has had minimal use from new. Ideally like a straight sale but would entertain trades for Bergantino CN112, CN210 or Vanderkley 112 cab or cabs. Cash either way depending. £600 posted to the UK
23. Just hit 71 this year. I gave up regular gigging a couple of years ago. Not been the same since the Prostate Cancer op 8 years ago although I must confess that I also just got bored with the politics of the last band and the Saturday nights away from home. Probably just a symptom of old age. Nowadays I play 2 or 3 times a year for an Elvis tribute band for charity plus the occasional local jam however I have no intention of ever getting back into a regular gigging band. I've come to the conclusion that there are a lot better bass players younger than me and that I should call it a day and stand down. Still enjoy playing along to my favourites and learning new stuff at home however. Never say never.
24. At last I have a solution for combo IEM cables. See Affiliates section for more information.
