1.
Anybody else play Bognor Rox event over the weekend?
Did Bognor Live in 2002. Halfway through the third number on the main stage the heavens opened, the audience disappeared and we eventually finished the set with the sound crew zipped in their tent, the stage crew on stage with us and the 2 security guys in waterproofs standing out front in case someone rushed the stage. We did hear applause from somewhere but couldn't see where. In 2003 on the second stage we couldn't get down to the stupid sound level set by some jobsworth in the district council so they faded us down. The unamplified drum kit was over their limit. We walked off, had a big row with the organisers, the mayor and the police. Put all the kit back in the cars and went home. What a waste of a beautiful afternoon. I'm not sure I ever want to go to Bognor again.
  2. OK so I've just sold a bass and need to send it to the North-west. What is the best way? BTW it needs to be insured for over £1000.
I am back home now and except from not having a voice and being quite stiff I should be ok for the bash. Looking forward to it immensely - Will probably bring a light amount of gear to be honest, the Bacchus 24 5er perhaps.
Glad to hear that you got through it OK.
No gig in the diary for the 18th and I'd be interested in coming along (subject to the infinite perversities of life, the universe and everything of course). I'm a newbie when it comes to 'Bass Bashes'. Do I need to confirm or otherwise my attendance and who's the best person to contact for more info and answers to my dumb questions? Chris.
It's always nice to know who is coming but not essential. pm me if you want info.

    Ohm ratings

The head may well be able to work down to 2-ohms however it will generate a lot more heat. Another thing you might want to condiser is that the 4-ohm cab will probably be louder than the 8-ohm and tend to dominate. Much better to have two cabs of the same impedance and the same spl/watt if you can manage it.
  7.
Dave: do you mean that for a double conversion - bass to amp, then amp to ears - the delay is too long, or that even in a single conversion - amp to ears - that it is too long? Simply because a cheap in-ears system would be brilliant even for a start.
Dave single conversion. Bass to mixer to earphones and it's much too long. Trying to play along with a drum machine or a disc is impossible. Shame. ped - I don't think even a pod can give negative delay. You are asking for the string to sound before you've plucked it. Edit - opinion on the web gives the audio delay through the system as 1/2 a second.
  8. With the proliferation of Bluetooth enabled products that support the A2DP protocol it would appear that it should be possible to put together a simple and cheap in-ear monitoring system. I recently managed to obtain a couple of Sony Bluetooth bits. A pair of DR-BT10CX stereo headphones and a TMR-BT10 Portable Stereo Transmitter Transmitter has 3.5mm stereo jack and connects to any headphone output. Both rechargeable, both very small. Once paired they work faultlessly over a distance of about 20 feet. With a PC or an iPod I thought the quality was excellent and it handled a direct feed of a bass with ease. My mind immediately leapt to the idea of a Blutooth enabled bass so you could Bluetooth send to the amp and Bluetooth receive from a monitor system. Alternatively you could pair the headphones with the bass for practice. All technically possible. There is however one big snag, and it is a big one. The digital processing puts in so much latent delay between plucking and hearing that playing becomes impossible unless you like playing a long way ahead of the beat. Pity. I quite fancied a Bluetooth enabled badge on my basses.
  9. Welcome. I'm an expat Cornishman. Brought up in Newquay for my first 9 years, then lived in Polkerris before moving away. I've got friends and relations in St Austell. I often hanker after returning but, like most places, it's not the same as it was.

  13.
This is just something that's puzzling me slightly, but is it possible to run say something like a Sound City 120 (120w of valve goodnes) as they're lowish wattage, and run it through a poweramp to beef up the output? I'm just really curious if it's possible or if it would destroy the power amp (or amp infact)? *Not that I intend to do it ofc*
A Sound City 120 is both a pre-amp and a power amp. You can't feed a power amp input from another power amp's output. You could however talke the Sound City pre-amp output from the effects send jack and use a separate more powerful solid-state power amp to drive the speakers. It would however be a criminal waste of a Sound City. Just buy an all-valve pre-amp to drive your power amp.

  18.
Evening all- I haven't been down there yet but I've heard it's pretty good. Apparently there's a good open mic night in Guildford too. Any ideas?
Yes the White Lyon is good night. I shall be there tonight with DJ5. There is also a Jam at the Live and Let Live in Guildford. It's once a month on a Tuesday but not sure if its the first or second. I'll find out tonight. It's run by the same guy who runs the White Lyon Jam.
  19. Welcome. Ever get down to the Thursday Jam at Worplesdon?
  20. I concur with P-T-Ps comments about the DJ5. Amazing bass, ever better with a J-Retro, in my opinion. Once I sell my Status I will be after a DJ4.
