Ahah found the topic. I have a similar problem with the Epi 502. It blots out my ghetto blaster in the garage. I'm sure it's from the PSU or Class D power amp. Considering that the UL502 is CE marked I would have expected it to have been properly tested. No such problems from the Ashdown ABM or the valve heads. Problem solved by running a CAT5 into the garage and installing a gash PC. Nw have acces to the music server and radio via the web.
That's it....... I used to see Jack Bruce with Cream, I have Frances Rocco Prestia DVD's and love Larry Graham and Victor Wooten, they are great to watch but I have never tried to play like them. It's not what I want to do. There are ensemble bass players (Duck Dunn, John McVie, Nathan East, Freddie Washington, James Jamerson) and there are lead bass players (Marcus Miller, Adam Nitti etc). These are two completely seperate paths. The former are just as good at bass playing as the latter so don't confuse technique with musical ability. My style is the former, I'm a very un-busy player (not too many notes), but if I get compliments about my playing it's because what I do play is RIGHT! That makes me a happy chap.
Thank you for putting so concisely what I should have said in my first post on this subject. It's all the song and what is right for the song.
I've been playing bass for two years now, and although I'm no Stanley Clarke, I wouldn't be fazed if anyone here turned up at one of our gigs. I'm taking lessons and practice for about an hour every day and I think I've got to a reasonable standard but then I see this (posted elsewhere on here by a fellow BCer) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G6wG71TR2_0 ...and I am genuinely astounded by the dexterity and musicianship. Then I think to myself..'if I keep the lessons up and practice hard, maybe one day...'. But then reality sets in - I'll never be that good on bass, cos if I'm honest with myself, I don't really aspire to it. I'm happy just fumbling away on a Saturday night and going home with £60 in my back pocket stinking of smoke. How good do you want to be?
Comes down to why you do it? To make career out of it or to enjoy yourself and get a buzz. I've given up worrying about how good I am or what others think. I just enjoy watching others enjoying themselves listening, sometimes moving, ocasionally dancing. Unless you've got a pub full of top rate musicians, nobody notices anyway.
OBBM doesn't make the cheapest cables - but he does make the highest quality that I've seen. I've not seen a speakon connector for sale at any price that is as good as the one he made me for IIRC about £20.
Actually the 1-metre Speakon to Speakon are now about 25% less than that even taking postage into account. Anyway what would you pay for a dc cable?
Thanks but im sitting here with the speaker in my hand and there is nothing either hanging off or loose. When i was comparing the two drivers last night, only testing one at a time the good one would jump around where as we faulty one hardly moved. But the sound is as you describe. Im wondering if i should just buy a new driver. might work out quicker than waiting for the musical box (the distributor) to sort out and if i have to send the cab to them the shipping cost might be dearer than just getting a driver direct from Epifani.
Dave, if you have a faulty driver then Epifani should ship you one immediately at their expense for you to install. As the manufacturer the buck stops with them. They have to support their customers. No way should you consider sending it back anywhere at your expense.
I've had a lot of trouble finding simple male to male connectors as well. You'd think that you could pick them up all over the place, but I've only ever found daisy chain types. I've considered OBBM before but, though undoubtedly quality, they do work out quite expensive.
Have you asked?
-
Have you registered the cab with Epifani for warranty? Call or email Nick Epifani in NYC and explain the problem.
is that a custom pickguard with the pic of the bloke holding a camera or did you buy it with that?
It's a mirror guard that I bought and fitted. It matches the control plate rather well. The hands and cmaera are mine taking the picture. Next?
-
As you seem so insistent, here you are. I've just changed the bridge to a BadassII. Will take some more pix soon.

Well I guess those of you who have paid nothing have been lucky. The package was sent USPS Express Mail. It was described "guitar repair part" Value $60.00 Postage $28.06 I didn't get charged any duty just VAT and the dreaded clearance fee. I've recently bought some string from the US for $62.40 and they just whistled through.

All sorted. Shim from old store card and judicious filing seems to have done the trick. Thanks for all the suggestions.
OBBM: much better to deal with you of course! But, I placed an order for stuff today and can confirm that for credit card orders at least, anything over £20+VAT is indeed FREE delivery and has been for as long as I can remember. I've made dozens of orders with Farnell and have never paid a penny for shipping. Of course they won't give the friendly, Bass Player Aware (tm) treatment that you can, and that counts for a lot. B.
Interesting. I use a different part of Farnell which is where those shipping charges came from. Unit prices are less but you have to spend more for free shipping.
Farnell sell the Neutrik right-angle jack for £2.13+VAT. Minimum order (including whatever else you might want) is £20 though - I usually seem to think of something however and postage is free. Edit: £1.88+VAT if you buy 10. Farnell are an extremely efficient operation BTW. http://uk.farnell.com/jsp/Connectors/Audio....jsp?sku=439095 Personally I wouldn't use anything other than the Neutrik connectors, they've a proper cable clamp and a well put togther lead is close to indestructible. B.
Farnells delivery charges are : At the date of issue of these Conditions the following Standard Delivery Charges apply: A. In relation to all orders placed by account holding customers and by non account customers i Orders up to £14.99 - charge £5.99; ii Orders between £15 and £29.99 - charge £4.99; iii Orders between £30 and £39.99 - charge £3.99. iv Orders over £40.00 - no charge. That makes it very expensive to buy a single connector or even a few. If anyone needs the occasional jack plug then pm me.
I went fairly deep on each saddle - you can, after all, always raise the saddle to compensate. I went at least an A string deep into each one.
That'll probably do it Chris. I shall continue with the file tomorrow.
-
How deep? I've already filed a string depth in the A bridge and it's almost right but reading the blurb one of the strong points is the construction of the bridge. File too far into it and you move away from the design criteria. I suspect that I really need to shim the neck and that I've f**cked the bridge.
-
The bridge is on but it needs to come down to get a nice low action. Problem is the bridge saddles are already at the bottom of their adjustment. How do you get it right?
-
I've got 2 basses with blue top edge lights. Never had a problem with them getting lost, just me.
-
Dymo tape? Laser print onto label media.

I wanted a Badass II for Pinky. UK prices seem to be around £54 inc postage but cheaper from the USA, so i ordered one from bestbassgear in the US - £47.03 inc shipping. Today I got an invoice from Parcel Farce for £21.18 for VAT and clearance. Total cost of bridge - £68.21. Might as well bought at home and saved myself £14.00.
-
Si's bought some cables, etc. Always a pleasure to deal with.

Other: Epi UL is solid-state Ashdown ABM500 is hybrid Sound Cities are all-valve

I've tried many different makes of strings over the years but always felt something was not quite right Now I have settled on DRs for most of my basses. I buy on-line from the USA. Outstanding are Lo-Riders (Stainless) on the Lakland DJ5, Lo-Riders (Nickel) on the Lakland Duck Dunn and Hi-Beams on the Fender Jazz. In a word, they work for me.
