1.
well at least they have a reason for not having a bass player. (as in oly 2 people) unlike the yeah yeah yeahs where the singer is just too much of a lazy cow to actually LEARN AN INSTRUMENT!!! i think it would help if you actually stood in the general area of the rest of the band playing aswell.
Well I will when those decisions are mine to make. I was just saying the people directing videos aren't often musicians, they are just trying to make a product that will look good and sell.
 2.
I was whatching this vid of jason newsteads new band, and you'd think the ex-metallica bassist would have gained a little respect but no, he was shown for about 2 seconds of the whole song, also the band elliot minor never ever have shots of their bassist.
haha yeah I'm working on that one! Maybe if I get my arse to the gym, shape up, I can pull off some Pete Wentz moves or something, oh yeah and while I'm at it I can learn to strum the bass!
 3.
You get one strip and cut it into two pieces with length equal to the width of your cab. Then when setting up your rig you line one strip up underneath the back edge of your cab and one under the front edge. If you're standing really close to your cab just use one strip at the front, either way up, to give you a degree of tilt - just having an edge of the cab touching the ground still gives good mechanical isolation. So much lighter, cheaper and more versatile than a GRAMMA! Alex
great thread. I use a DB750 + 2xGS410's. Did one gig with my amp right against the back wall, on a solid stage. -sounded amazing. didnt need the amp particularly loud as there was plenty of definition, clear lows etc Did a gig the next day... the amp was about 4-5 feet away from the wall, on a hollow stage and it just sounded muddy. On the second occasion the support band (who were using my amp) had it so loud in order to hear it on stage, that the foh sound was terrible. The same, presumably, applied to us.

 5. I would have thought ud get paid. Our old promoter just used to take a fixed % of the gross at the door. For the first couple of gigs we supported a couple of his other bands, I think (it was a while ago), so he could see what we were like. That, obviously, didn't involve getting paid. Your local promoter, as far as I know, will take a % of the gross. You will have to pay for hire of the venue/PA (if thats involved). Please correct me if i'm wrong.
 6. hey, was just wondering, I have an ATK-500, is it a replacement pickup your talking about? If so, I'd be interested in hearing any opinions on it. ed
 7. hey, does anyone know where I can get a 'skid' or something similar, like the stuff they use at festivals? thanks
 8.
Hi Ed I wouldn't go on width alone. I have small hands but get on better with a wider neck. No idea why, I just prefer the width of the necks on Stingrays and Precisions to Jazzes and Sterlings. I have a MIA Jazz and can see why people say they're faster, but it will depend on what music you're playing and how much mobility you have in your wrists and fingers as much as the width of the neck. Sorry if that didn't help much Chris
thanks! I have found though that I prefer more C shaped necks. Basically I'm really used to my cello, and I find I get pain in my thumb sometimes as my Ibanez has much less of a C shape to the neck (whatever you call that!). I guess its just down to trying them out! Thanks for all the info. Ed
 9. Yeah they do fall apart. I use them all the time, and they are fine when I play fingerstyle. However during a video shoot, I used a pick (so I was playing more aggressively that normal). After only a day id done more damage to the strings with a pick, than Id done in the month previous.
 10.
Also consider the Precision Special and the Lakland Duck Dunn. Both P Basses with jazz necks.
I was just on the Lakland site! I really like the look of the Duck Dunn. It's something different aswell, ive heard good things about Lakland. Thanks dood for the info, a friend of mine has a Japanese reissue P bass (can't remember the year, im gonna find out more the next time I see him) but that was another bass I liked. (it didn't have a Jazz sized neck, but I really did like it) argh theres so many basses to chose between. I loved his reissue on its own, but it kind of got lost in the mix when the band kicked in. My ibanez doesnt sound so good on its own, but its really clear in the mix. Thanks for the info on the deluxe, just been looking at a few of those. How hard is it to get the Laklands? is it more or less impossible to find anywhere to try them before buying?
 11. I went into a vintage guitar shop the other day and compared a few Fender Jazz's and a few precisions. Overall I found the Jazz neck easier to play, but I preferred the sound of a precision. I know this is all old stuff, but considering this is a new forum I thought id revive some old threads. So can you get precision's with jazz size neck's? specifically what about this http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=713 I quote 'it has the very rare A neck type (same width as the jazz bass)'. does that mean the fret spacing is the same as a Jazz? were there many of these basses made? Just wondering as I have quite small hands, and although it doesn't really matter (I'm sure you have seen great bassists with small hands and bad ones with big hands and vice versa) I think it may be beneficial to get a bass with smaller fret spacing, particularly for some of our tracks. Ed
 12. I heard somewhere that the boss (?) power brick wasn't very good? anyone know why?
 13.
If there's an input gain control, turn it down. If there isn't one, turn down the volume on your bass. See if you can get a good sound with that. If that doesn't work, it could be anything.
I still havn't figured out what the problem is, but ive found a solution. We are doing a mini tour at the moment, and since i was feeling in a good mood i thought f*** it, and let our regular support use my aguilar rig. His Japanese Fender Precision Reissue sounded AMAZING through it. I couldn't believe what I was hearing. Not only that, he said it was one of the best rigs he has ever played through. So we have done a deal... I supply the amp, he supplies the bass I love my ATK, but I don't think its exactly what i'm looking for. Not after I heard this guys P bass! Gonna have to start saving up again. I suppose some basses sound better with some amps, and others sound better with other amps!
 14.
How fat is the neck on those ATK basses? i think i want one, but im not so sure.
what is the 'standard' set of neck dimensions? I mean, how do you measure a neck? Is it circumference and width? Anyway, it's not 'C' shape. A regular Fender player picked up my bass the other day and found the neck really weird to play. Will post a more informative post at some point, about to leave for a gig in High Wicombe (sp.?), 5 or 6 hour drive. Ed
 15.
I still broadly disgree in principle to this level of nanny-stateism, but on a purely selfish level, it's great. Jon.
+1. As regards its effect, people miss the start of sets cos they are outside, they also tend to dissapear for a smoke during the slower songs etc Other than that there isn't much difference. Iv'e been at Uni in edinburgh and although I disagree with the involvement of the government on this issue, I do like coming home not smelling of smoke!
