Fool for your loving Whitesnake accurate tab anyone??
obbm replied to thebigyin's topic in General Discussion
Really enjoyed learning this one for one of my bands - just got the basics down and gigged it like that for a while and gradually added the fills - some of the fill I put in are almost like the real song!!!
This is what I intend to do. It comes up occasionally at one of the local Jams so it's worth being prepared in case I'm caught in the hot seat. -
RTFS...
Here you go, two versions that are very similar, in Pdf format. Download and change the suffix to 'Pdf'... Enjoy; bon courage. Guitar Pro 6 is very good for learning stuff like this. (The twiddly bits are just decoration, really, so they could be added after you've got the main structure down 'pat'. Don't fret over a silly little 'throw-away' twiddle...).
What's a .ipb file? My PC doesn't recognise it. -
Clarification. I have a cutter that will make 24mm holes which is fine for most Neutrik connectors. Not sure about the XLR/jack Combo which seems to be a bit smaller.
Just out of interest, whats the maximum width of metal that these cutters can punch through? Musicman Stingray 5 with Status neck. - £1200 This was my everyday go to bass however as I no longer gig seriously, and haven’t used it in a while, I have reluctantly decided that it must go. The core instrument is a 2003 Pacific Blue Burst Stingray 5 which was fitted with a Status Carbon Fibre neck by Rob Green in early 2005. The neck has subtle blue side LEDs and a separate battery box was fitted to power them. Pick-up is a Nordstrand 3-coil with 3-way switching. The original MM pick-up is also included. Pre-amp is the regular Stingray 5. Currently strung with a new set of Sadowsky Blue Label. Schaller Strap-locks. Complete with a Hiscox case. Weight is 10lb 4oz. Collection or meet preferred. Do not want to ship. Also I am not looking for trades of any description.

I must say it was a real pleasure to sit down and do this for Gareth yesterday. It is just a beautiful instrument and of course I took the opportunity to have a noodle before he came and collected it. Such a wonderful tone. It makes my MIJ fretless Jazz sound complete rubbish. Now what can I sell?
Thanks for the heads up re. Sadowsky. I've not seen them, but will try to locate a set. I tried Thomastik and liked them, apart from the over-light A string (only .70), which was just too slack (and had intonation issues - I couldn't move the bridge saddle far enough forward to get the octave in tune). I replaced it with a .80 Chrome, which matches quite well - they're on my Jazz at the moment.
The last 4-string set I got was from an Ebay Seller in Poland. About £36 posted. I found that Thomastik strings were a bit like playing with wet string. The Sadowskys are a bit tighter but each their own.

+1 for Sadowsky Flats. Very difficult to find in Europe however.
That's true for times when things are relatively steady, not so much when there is major change or turmoil. But i genuinely hope you're right, and not just for the sake of affordable basses. (food, employment, education and housing would be closer the top of the list, but the price of instruments is just a part of a bigger picture)..
Absolutely. I would not want to see mortgage rates back up at 15% again. That would put a new bass purchase way down the list of priorities.

Exchange rates are always moving up and down. In my working life I've seen the dollar/pound swing between almost $1 =£1 up to $2.4 = £1 and back. Just because the rate is bad today doesn't mean it will stay there.

The one on this album cover in 1961.

I'm not aware of any inherent musical history in the family although I believe my paternal aunt and grandmother both played the piano. I had trombone lessons at school from the age of 11 but after seeing Little Richard in 1962 built my first, truly dreadful, bass, bought a book and taught myself using the family radiogram as an amplifier. My mother was more tolerant than supportive however she did lend me the money to buy a proper Framus bass and allow the band to rehearse in the front room.

What were you doing when you were Eleven years old?
obbm replied to lowdown's topic in General Discussion
1957. Moved from Cornwall to Surrey, started Grammar School and was encouraged to learn to play the trombone, rather badly. Rock 'N' Roll was just a the latest music fad, of no interest to me, disliked by my parents and anyway it was bound to be replaced by some newer fashion. Fortunately it wasn't, however it took another 3 years for it to click and another 2 years for it to make an everlasting impression when seeing Little Richard live. Out with the trombone and enter the electric bass. -
early 70's fender opinion. A good deal or been done?

Talking of fret-dressing or refrets, I have a '73 P with some dreadful frets which need sorting. Any recommendations as to where to take it in the South East? -
