  1. Nobody would really want one of these Shirley? https://reverb.com/uk/p/warwick-rockbass-artist-line-bootsy-collins-space-bass?hfid=32266866&utm_source=google&utm_medium=cpc&utm_campaign=1726164661&utm_content=campaignid=1726164661_adgroupid=70264195649_productpartitionid=1462243850870=merchantid=346725493_productid=32266866_keyword=_device=c_adposition=_matchtype=_creative=391637461803&gclid=CjwKCAiAtdGNBhAmEiwAWxGcUm25F-i-3buLgIRsOViZ8BICtpv5W-zH4nvnrQ3omalWOrXbPsBFZxoC88UQAvD_BwE

  3. I have 2 BBG5S basses - you certainly get a lot of bass for your money. Even at £319 I still think that's a good bass for your buck.
  4. I have a Mahalo with rubber strings which is fun to play - compact and lightweight - however this is spoilt by needing to retune every two micro seconds. Constantly going out of tune (strings take ages to settle) even though it takes forever to tune for that reason. I'm waiting for somebody to invent rubber strings that don't suffer from the above problem.
  5. Probably over-priced BB614F on Cash Converters https://www.cashconverters.co.uk/shop/music-tv--video/musical-instruments/guitars--string-instruments/bass-guitar/052700070105
  6. My preferred gauge is 35-90 however not many suppliers make them. Happy to buy 40-100 as the next best.
  7. COULD YOU REHOME A PUPPY??

One of Thea's sisters has been returned to the breeder as the (novice) owner can't handle a puppy.

She needs to be rehomed with experienced dog owners who have plenty of time and space for her to burn that puppy energy . She is 19 weeks old and free to a good home. Currently in Southgate, North London, she'll need to be collected.

I have some photos which I'll upload later.

We've a full house here with our new puppy, (she's currently 5 months) and our 3 year old Cockapoo.

Fingers crossed she's got a new home by Christmas!

I think we may have a home for Thea's sister Duchess. Neighbour's boyfriend, John,  had to leave his Staffie X with his parents when he moved out so he is looking for a new dog.

We already walk with his partner, Naz, and her dog, Meeko so having Thea's sister nearby will be a bonus.

Duchess, featuring a new name, Shiva, now with neighbours. Unclear if she has ever been walked - she wanted to be carried to the park and didn't know how to play with the other dogs.

Give it a week and we'll probably see a completely different dog.

  8. Agree it looks well done but it just looks odd with silver p/ups.
  9. Window overlooking next door??? Letting them watch what you're up to?
  10. Last group of people I played with included a really good drummer, amazing keyboard player, myself, a horn player and a saxophonist (control freak) who also wanted to play keys, sing and to tell everybody what to play. He showed me videos of an impromptu bass line from somebody who clearly wasn't comfortable with the tunes to copy - even though what I was playing was fatter and grooved better. He was also telling the drummer what to play ( "you know...a boom boom, pitcha pitcha"...) Drummer's eyes said it all. Thankfully COVID came along a few weeks after the last rehearsal. Saxophonist has looked at my status on Bandmix recently - no idea why - I couldn't play with him again.

Not sure where you're based Dave but keep your eyes open for Bass Bashes in your area. There are normally notifications in the "Events" thread. The events are open to bassists and other musicians. Attendees bring their basses and amps and there's the opportunity to try that gear. Just ask. Much of the gear is hard to come by and won't be available in your local shops. Check the "Events" threads for info on previous events. We're are a friendly bunch so PM your local members who have gear you might be interested in and see if you can try theirs.
  12. Saw Sly & Robbie and Black Uhuru several times during the 80s and 90s. He was never note perfect but, man, his Riddim and feel were spot on. Another of my inspirations passes away. RIP sir.
  13. Why are the latest posts on some threads on page 1 (Basses for sale) and on the highest number on others (word association)?
  14. I've just had a closer look at the ad. Only the first picture is of the Status - all the others are of a Warwick. Deliberately misleading? A cynic (like me) might think so.
  15. Are they the original pups? They don't look very Yamaha-ish.
  16. IIRC somebody was looking for a BB1200. There's one on Gumtree in North London for £675. Check the pick ups first. Seller looks to be clearing out a few basses. https://www.gumtree.com/p/guitar-instrument/yamaha-bb1200-vintage-bass-guitar-with-original-hard-case-/1421088089

Welcome Dave There are several basses in the £300 region which are worth looking at. The Marcus Miller Sire, The G&L Tributes, Squire Standard (both P and J pick ups) and Spector are all worth looking at. Avoid the Affinity range Fenders - all the above are better basses for the money. Lots of bargains to be had in the Marketplace here so keep an eye on what's on offer. Beware of the dreaded GAS - pointless telling you really as we all succumb to it.
  21. ...and Jaco's No1 and he didn't sell half as many records as Paul Mc.
  22. Interesting, if not new, concept. IIRC @Happy Jack has a Westone with a similar set up. This custom guitar has a single pickup which can be moved around the guitar’s body instead. https://hackaday.com/2021/12/05/bass-guitar-gets-shapeshifting-pickups/

  24. Ashdown set a standard that others should aspire to...other manufacturers are you reading this thread??
  25. Great impulse buy for somebody - nearly me.... Please, don't sell it to me....
