1. Ok Computer is a masterpiece. I must have listened to it every night for a year or more when I first bought it, it's a absolutely stupendiously good record! Kid A I can understand being an aquired taste. The best description I've heard of it was "I bought this to hear the next OK Computer, not Thom Yorke playing a keyboard with a sausage". I love bits of it though, Everything in its Right Place, Kid A, Optomistic, Idioteque, all great IMO.
2. Pyramid Song has to be one of the most beautifully dark songs ever written. I remember being incredibly excited about what was reported as "Egyptian Song" in the press before Kid A came out, as I was a massive Radiohead fan at that time, and being really disappointed when it was left off the record!
3. For me they peaked with Ok Computer, and then if they'd combined the best tracks off Kid A and Amnesiac they would have had a record to rival it. I don't rate the last two records at all. The bends has a few good tracks but I find it average myself. It got me into Radiohead though and Planet Telex is amazing. Most of their B sides from the Bends/OK Computer period put the last 2 records to shame IMO.
4. Just watched it on youtube. I far prefer the old version they did on the OK Computer tour, this one just smacks of Yorke wanting to show his vocals off. He does a damn fine job of it, though.
5. Lordy lordy, what is it with all the dolphins for sale when I've got no cash?! It's torture!
6. So, to sum up: Viz > Elvis > Music snobbery? Excellent.
7. I'd love that Dolphin, if only I had any money at all! Don't suppose you want a Status Series 1 5 string, a BC Rich Mockingbird 4 or Status necked Encore P bass do ya?
8.
slight buzz from low E string (Can be fixed easily by a small piece of paper underneath string)
Hey hey, that's a good fix that! I have to admit I've got a bit of card under my A string on my US Jazz to cure a slight buzz, works a treat
9. I use both a GK112 and GK212 with a Markbass head and DHA preamp. Those cabs combined are more than capable of providing punch in plentiful amounts, but the 112 on its own does not. If you want punch, you'll need more speaker area than one 1x12 cab IMO. Warmth? I reckon the GK Neo cabs can be very warm, but again without the 2x12 I have to dial in less bottom, which in turn makes the sound less "warm".
10. I'd have to say my Jazz. I've owned higher end basses, a Status S2 classic I sold on and a fretless Warwick Streamer Jazzman, plus a load of other cheaper ones, but the Jazz is just superior in terms of tone for rock music (and pretty much everything else really). I've never been able to get a good pick tone with a graphite neck, so the Status went, and the Warwick lacked clarity. The Jazz has punch, clarity, bottom, plays great, looks great, is put together great. I still want a thumb and a stingray, though!
11. I've just been checking out Sikth after reading this thread - totally mental!
12. I think Tommy C plays on Dusty Springfield's "Take a little piece of my heart" too, and its a stunning line.
13. I find the stock fender bridge on my MIA Jazz is perfect. Didn't like the one on my old MIM P though, it kept undoing and sliding around. It could be that the bit of tin fender bridge works better with string through body, though.
14.
I wonder who writes those reviews, certainly not the case with the F1 and that is meant to be the least coloured of the MB range.
I wouldn't say my Little Mark 2 is sterile sounding, but it does have quite a clean tone. For rock I never found a tone I was 100% happy with, until I put my DHA preamp in front of it. I leave the LM2 flat now, and do my tone shaping on the DHA. It's nice and Ampeg like now!
15.
Agreed, I was there as well, Alderete's a hell of a player. I felt completely knackered by the end though, I didn't think they'd ever stop! Couldn't agree more, I cannot stand Dream Theater's music. Absolutely bores me stupid. Nah he's definitely still there, although their old drummer Jon Theodore left to be replaced by Thomas Pridgen, with mixed results IMO. Some rock/metal bands I'm particularly enjoying at the moment: Botch Russian Circles This Will Destroy You Latitudes Devil Sold His Soul Isis All highly recommended to the post-rock fans out there (well, I suppose Botch or Devil Sold His Soul aren't post-rock, but they're flippin' good all the same).
Man, I know what you mean. Besides the fact I was reasonably hammered, I had trouble standing for 3 hours, my back was killing me! I thought Thomas Pridgen was amazing on the drums, though. Such brutal energy!
16. Saw the Mars Volta live in London the other week. Lordy lordy, Juan Alderete can play!
17. Are they playing anywhere more southernly?
18. Gah, I'd love that. I just can't justify any more basses, though.
19. I have a swift les paul I bought for £50. I wouldn't use it for firewood, its that bad.
20. It looks like a Series 1 to me. The Series 1 had a wood neck, bass and treble cut/boost and bright switch, and 5/7 piece body. I've got a 5 string Series 1 that doesn't have wings as exotic as that, and its a great bass. Very growly. As for value, my one cost me £250, but as I said its not got nice wings like that and had a few dents. I'd say around £450 tops.
21. The build quality, playability and tone of my US Jazz is absolutely brilliant. I don't even want to add a badass, as the Fender bridge does the job great (although, this is the first Fender bridge I've had that where the saddles don't lower themselves every 5 mins). Great basses.
22. I've heard the VBA400s can get very hot and cause problems with the PCB in the head - is it somewhere where its getting proper cooling?
23. Fat Mike's Danelectro DC: Looks great, lightweight, great fat punk pick tone. Cass Lewis' Musicman Cutlass: Skunk Anansie - I can dream Again, looks great, has mojo, exclusivity, and a great rock fingers sound.
24. Cor, that's lovely!
