1. Bump. GK cab and DHA rackmount unit still for sale, and now reduced.
2. Bitches Brew is just unlistenable to me. Not the ideal intro to Miles, IMO.
3. My S1 had a crack in the exact same place, oddly enough. I just put a bit of superglue over it, never gave me any problems.
4.
Excellent practical review, btw I've played a Streamline at the factory & I was very impressed by it. I felt it had a huge range of tones on offer and the smaller body size seemed to make no difference to the tone - It really does sound much mightier than it looks! As for production, I know that the 'streamlining' (no pun intended!) of the operation in recent years has helped the company keep ahead of the competition and has also done no harm to the image and perceived value of the brand. I know Rob wouldn't outsource any production as he's kept a tight grip on the quality control for a very long time. You know you're going to get a first class instrument & that there will be no quality issues at all. I've only heard of one bass being returned in the last few years & that had a fault in the neck weave. Rob was so mortified that he made the client a complete new bass! Now that's what I call customer service
+1 I certainly couldn't fault any aspect of the construction of the S2 I had from Status. The fit and finish surpassed my expectations by a country mile - my previous experience of a "high end" bass was a Warwick Streamer Jazzman, and it blew it out of the water in terms of build quality. It literally felt like I could throw it off a bridge and it would still be in tune afterwards.
5. To be honest, I think building an instrument from graphite is not something a lot of places are kitted out for. Rob at Status is something of a pioneer in the technique, as far as I can gather. His method (or at least the finished product) seems to be quite different from Modulus and Moses, for example.
6. That is an absolutely stunning Status. Beautiful facings.
7. No one will notice if the bassist makes a duff note or two. Sad, but true. Everyone will notice if you shoegaze or stand still. I was never very good at moving around much, too self concious, but I had far more comments about that than compliments on my accurate playing!
8. That's a beaut!
9. I still don't have any pics of my current Status necked P bass, but as we're doing "used to own" basses as well, I used to own this: Sold it because although it was a beautiful bass, and played itself, I just couldn't justify owning something that expensive and only using it a few times a week.
10. Morgan won't appriciate those Warwicks. Not flying V shaped.
11. That is a sweet Thumb. Do you post on Punktastic, per chance?
12. Bargain, that.
13. I no longer own any Statii, shame. Although my one bass has a Status graphite neck. Don't have any decent pics of it at the minute, will get some up at some point.
14. Really, its a perfect opertunity to get to grips with basic soldering. It's literally a case of holding the iron on the joint until its hot enough to melt the solder, applying said solder, and removing the heat. 5 minutes max!
15. Soldering is well worth learning. My old Series 1 Status had a few dry joints when I got it, so I redid them. It's easy!
16. Only a year ago I sold my S2 classic for a grand with no trouble. Hard times indeed!
17.
ye done that i assume since a sound is coming out, and no sound come out if i take the batteries out, the preamp is working fine, its just the tone knob isnt working, reckon its worn out??
Removing the battery would break the circuit. It proves the circuit is intact, but the preamp may still be at fault. Might be worth putting a multimeter across the tone control terminals and checking to see if the resistance changes when you turn the knob. I have no idea what that will tell you, mind, but wielding a multimeter, with a cup of tea on standby, is a good manly activity and should be encouraged!
18.
bass came today, decent condition, very light bass! problem? the tone/eq knob has no effect on sound. iv replaced batteries and still no sign of it even slightly working. master volume and pickup balance knobs are working fine (i assume thats what they are) but the bass's tone is dull and flat, which from what iv heard of statusus cant be right. help?
Whip the back cover off and make sure no wiring has come loose, I suppose?
19. Ridiculous price.
20. Woods no doubt do make a difference, but whether that difference is good or bad is so subjective its not even worth speculating about. There are probably guitars out there made from 1 year old diseased, soggy basswood that to someones ears sound nicer than the same kind of guitar made from 60 year old beautifully figured cocobolo.
21. I was just thinking earlier how I'd like to see an acoustic, nylon strung fretless baritone guitar. Has anyone seen such a beast?
22. A very good deal, providing you get the bass and the guy gets in touch! I've owned a wood necked Series 1 Status and a graphite necked S2 classic, and I have to say to my ears the wood necked bass sounded better. The S2 was more forgiving, and was built like a tank, but was too clinical for my taste. The Series 1 I had though had buckets of growl.
23. Never seen one with that pickup configuration before. Nice bass! Edit - Doh, that's the hum cancelling pickup that's normally hidden by the scratchplate. Silly me!
24. GK212 and DHA rackmount with rack still for sale. LM2 is sold pending handover still. No car anymore so collection only from now on (I can still meet with the LM2 though MintyFreshDeath, it should fit on the back of my motorbike )
25. Up until recently I had one of these (with the P90 pickups though) and it was a great sounding and playing guitar for the cash. Definately worth a punt.
