1. Thanks chaps. Its the 4 time my house has been broken into. The 3 prior occasions were a few years ago before I moved in, however. Not a nice area. They broke into next door on Monday to steal the weed that was growing there, unknown to us. After we phoned the police and got one of them nicked, plus the house full of cannabis emptied by the police, we've had our door kicked in, and my laptop stolen. Luckily we moved nearly all the other valuables (including bass gear!) out of the house after the first sign of trouble. Seems they came back today too, according to our neighbour the police have been out again to our place. Going to empty the rest of the house tomorrow, while we wait to hear back on references for our new house.
2. The bassballs is now sold to tayste_2000. I'll try and get some better pics up of all the basses as soon as I can. None of them are in showroom condition, they all have a few knocks, and I'll try and show this as best I can.
3. Following my worst week of recent memory and a spate of burglaries, vandalism and my my next door neighbour turning out to be running a cannabis factory, I'm moving house at short notice. Hence, I need cash, but I'm snowed under sorting my life out so am not in a position to post anything, and will need to arrange to meet with people in Bristol if they are interested in buying anything. Please bear in mind that it may take a few days to arrange meeting up if you're interested, due to all the house moving stuff. So, without further ado: Status Series 1 5 string bass. Neck through, active preamp, maple neck, 7 piece body. Really nice low action. A few marks on the body, and a small crack in the back of the headstock which has been superglued, and hasn't given me any trouble. Would have been around £600 new, yours for £270 due to the aforementioned cosmetic issues. - Now SOLD to vmaxblues Parts built precision bass with Status graphite neck, Kent Armstrong bridge humbucker, John East BTB01 preamp. A bit tatty visually, but feels and sounds great - the neck alone cost more than the asking price of £350 Since the above picture was taken the hole in the pickguard has been filled with an active/passive switch, and all but one of the pickguard screws are in there (the one that isn't is over the routing for the pickup so doesnt have anything to screw into). The P pickup is one half Wizard Thumper and one half the original Encore one, which could be secured better in its casing as it drops down on occasion. Oh, and there's a Puntastic sticker on there that will come off easy enough. Check out the build link in my sig for more info on the birth of this little beast. Be under no illusions though, I knocked this thing together in my living room. It does the job, but its not pretty. Danelectro Cool Cat Chorus pedal - £25 Electro Harmonix Bassballs Nano - SOLD Behringer compressor - £10 Electro Harmonix pedal bag - SOLD pending handover BC Rich Mockingbird. This one is an '89 model, and sounds great. There is a problem with the neck though, Its got too much relief and I can't adjust it with the truss rod, so the action is high. It will need some work to correct or a new neck unless you like a very high action! Oh, and the volume knob is missing. £250. I'll entertain offers on any of the above things. If anyone has a motorcycle (125 or bigger, I'm planning on taking my test when I can afford it) they want to trade, let me know, as I may not be able to keep my car on the road for much longer.
4.
How do you play when you don't know what notes you're playing.
By using my ears. If I hear a note I can find it straight away, 99% of the time. If I want to play a 6th up from it, or minor third etc, I'll have the note in my head and my fingers will go there. I just have no idea what note I'll be playing. What use is knowing the fingerboard if you never use charts, or sight read? I've never had need to in an originals band. I taught myself to sight read when I played Cello, so I can see the use if you want to, for example, play Bach note for note, but I've never had need of it with bass playing.
5.
I wish I actually have this now. http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=17437
Ah, I see. I spied this and thought it may have been the contender: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/BC-B-C-Rich-Eagle-Ba...Q2em118Q2el1247
6.
Bump. Relisted due to a dream bass put on ebay just now, And yes its a BCR.
Something Eagle shaped with 5 strings maybe?
7. I do backing vocals on a lot of songs and have sung lead when doing some Weezer covers at a "Stars in their eyes" gig we did. I think the key in all instances is to have the bassline down so much you don't have to think about it at all, you can just play it naturally, then concentrate on the vocals while you play. Most of the time its the rhythmic aspect I find hard to deal with - my right hand has to follow the vocals, not the other way around.
8. Joined Bassworld in around '04 I think, found it searching for a UK bass forum on google.

BC Rich? Pah!

Rob's first Eagle was the first BC Rich I saw that made me take them seriously as guitar and bass builders. Once I'd done a bit of reading I realised there was a whole load of history and quality behind BC Rich, not just the cheap guitars you see dotted around Sound Control. I've got a late NJ Mockingbird which sounds great, but the "100 piece neck" won't straighten so I need to get it looked at when I can afford it. Rad looker though! I'd love an Eagle like Rob's sunburst one too, that one is a beaut.
10. Lordy, if there is one thing I'd do to Radiohead if I could it would be ditch Phil Selway and get a drummer who isn't afraid to hit his kit.
11. This is a nice clip: http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=VZtrKLXRGxE&...feature=related Wals do seem to have great top end articulation. I've played one briefly, and it felt pretty good too. I can't help but feel you could get bloody close to this sound and have an equally good feeling bass with something like a G&L L2000 though.
12.
I think is one of the most depressing you tube clips ever... http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=yOuXQgGamis&...feature=related
How so?
13. Ebay or the classifieds here are your best bet probably? You'll need to shell out serious dough though.
14. Every Dano bass I've heard, both in person and on record, has sounded utterly brilliant. I don't know what it is, the body or the pickups, but such a great sound.
15. If modern R&B encompasses the work of artists like Timbaland, Outkast, et al, then give me that over "upbeat blues of the Chuck Berry variety" any day of the week! In fact, I think I may get youtube up and watch a bit of Rhianna...
16. They're brilliant. I thought I'd moved exclusively to 5 stringers, but now I use a 4 with a D tuner as my main bass and haven't looked back. Like Merton, in one song I even flip it down for a heavy breakdown section then back up to E while I'm playing. Works a treat. Approx 50% of the songs in my band's set are in drop D, the other 50% in standard tuning. I might have a song in drop D, a song in standard, a song in drop D etc etc, and having to manually retune after each song would be a right pain in the arse.
17. Yeah, that's a killer album. I love Billy's tone, its so punchy on Everything's Ruined.
18.
I'm with the BigBeefChief on this one... (Apart from his lack of taste where jazz is concerned!) I listened (or at least tried) to the RadioHead tracks from the Jonathan Ross show on YouTube & didn't make it through a single one of them. The singer couldn't hold a tune in a bucket & I could teach a total moron to play those basslines in 30 mins flat. So not very musically challenging & a dreadfully depressing durge to boot! Oh dear, I sound like my Dad! Oh yes, the point of the thread... Yes, the sound mix quality was lovely for tv studio stuff. Pity about the content, that's all
*Bangs head on desk*
19.
Correctomondo Mr Wil sir - awsome, esp. "Big Dick" - brutal.
Yep, great line that. Great raucous tone, too.
20. Man, I've been playing for 12 years and I still haven't learned the fretboard. What can I say, I'm dedicated
21. Sounds like you may be double jointed. My pinky used to do this a lot, but over time its lessened, I suppose as the finger has become stronger.
22. Skunk Anansie - Paranoid and Sunburnt NOMEANSNO - Wrong
23. All the time. I use it far more than my third.
24. I've been tempted too. I actually prefer the tone from wood necks now, although my Status neck feels and looks superb.
25.
Given that: You liked OK Computer but thought Kid A was tosh I'd say: You'll be underwhelmed. It's got a lot of both albums in it. I love Colin Greenwood's playing on The National Anthem. And How To Disappear..... And Morning bell's great stuttering finish. Great bass playing.
As far as I know, on the record, Thom played bass on The National Anthem. I love the bass playing at the end of Optimistic, the last chorus and the breakbeat bit afterwards
