It’s the 280. Was a while back, but from recall I wasn’t pushing it at all.

I used my Gnome iPro at one gig, into either a 1x12 or 1x15 and was pretty amazed at the depth of sound from it. It was only for on stage volume but that has to be as loud as the kit so imo it would have been good enough in a pub without miked up drums. Amazing really.

The US Standards of 2013-16 have a deep neck (though regular Precision width) it’s a chunker. Took me a while to get used to it, so may be worth avoiding this range.

I’d only sand it if I had experience of basses with that already and knew I liked playing necks like that. But given it was bought with gloss, and taking into account resell value (tho can’t see that is much of a factor given you bought it in 1992) I’d just get a refin.

They’re not the basses for me but well done Bass Direct, a definite feather in their cap, great to see this.

No, I’ve been fortunate that I’ve never hated any of the basses I’ve owned. Sure there have been some that I just haven’t bonded with but all of them were perfectly fine, just things like finding out I prefer gloss finish to satin, minor stuff like that.

A lot of it is what the bass & drums were arranged/written to do in the solo. In my classic rock band we do Led Zeps Dazed & Confused, like them we don’t have a rhythm guitar but there’s no drop when the solo kicks in due to the arrangement and composition, if anything the song goes up (shows how clever they really were imo). In songs which were written to have 1 or 2 rhythm guitars as well as the solo then just lead and bass will be a drop, no getting around that.

I think that this is a very overlooked skill indeed.

It’s for that reason that at gigs my bass is only ever out of the case when I’m playing it, too many Clumsys out there.

Rehearsed last night with the classic rock band with no singer, some 6 weeks since the last rehearsal. Went really well. As usual I just plugged into their Ampeg 810 and Peavey MiniMEGA, can get a good old school rock sound out of this rig, perfect for the mainly 70s & 80s material we do.

I forgot to mention on my post re the ABM410, the EVO IV version is an excellent cab, prob my second fave cab I ever had. Yes it’s quite heavy but even in my early/mid 50s and with a bad back I was able to cope with it. I put a set of 4” castors on it and it made it easy to move about.

In the last band I played guitar in I used to take 2 identical guitars along in a Mono M80 Dual gigbag. Thinking about it, in all the bands I’ve played guitar in although I always had a backup I never needed to use one.

I’ve had both, I found that the Markbass cabs seem to have a high end roll off, and the Barefaced have a more vintage sound with neither low lows or razor sharp highs. I think in your situation @Paul C I’d save a few pounds and get the Markbass. If I were going to gig the cab regularly then straightaway I’d choose the Barefaced.

The current trend in my band seems to be no backup guitars. Might seem a tad hypocritical of me to criticise seeing as I don’t take a backup bass but the only issues we’ve had were string breakage twice at the same gig.

It’s actually quite liberating isn’t it, gigging with minimal gear. And a bit like having a doner kebab, you don’t know if it’s going to be a success or just go to the 💩

Last few gigs I’ve done due to my back issues I’ve only taken the one bass. A short scale lightweight Mustang bass in a guitar Mono M80 is just about all I can manage.

Yep, the Rumbles have a very deep rich sound to them, at some point I hope to get round to using mine (the 800 v3 combo).
