  1. I was going to comment the same as @MacDaddy, Happy World Goth Day just doesn`t seem to fit.
  2. A mate of mine really raves about Livewire, says they`re the best AC/DC tribute he`s seen (I will get round to seeing at some point).
  3. In my classic rock band (the one without a singer) we do a lot of the 70s stuff but really do Dio-era Rainbow well, and could probably do a tribute type band for that. But finding someone who could sing anywhere near like Dio would be practically impossible, and it’s the vox that would sell that.
  4. That`s a good way to do things George, I left my previous band at the end of 2019 as it was just getting too much for me, gigging every weekend all over the country and Europe, but similarly if they ever need a stand in I`d happily help out and they know that. I`ve even done a gig with my new band on the same bill as them and we all had a great laugh at that one.
  5. I’ve found via experience that walking straight into said lumps with a “excuse me” a Marshall 412 and a “cheers mate” ends up with them moving out of the way for good.
  6. Bruce Foxton, I had a real "we`re not worthy" moment when I met him.
  7. Concentrate on bass so buy another 13 basses to get to a hundred!
  8. Definitely, with my Mustang bass and whatever type of back-line required - Fender Rumble combo/Ashdown RM500 head/Aguilar Tonehammer DI) I can still gig easily, and most importantly sound good (and hopefully play ok too). Without the lighter weight gear I`d have had to give up gigging last year when my back got bad, this gear has enable me to keep going.
  9. Fair play Jack, best add So What by The Anti Nowhere League into your set for the next gig then 🤣
  10. In my opinion either do it 100% accurate, as @cetera says above, with attention to detail as a "we want to deliver the whole package" with correct instruments, outfits and stage moves, or do it as a tribute to the music only, where you play the songs but don`t bother to look or perform like the original. No point in doing it halfway. Most of the tribute bands I`ve seen have been pretty good, with The Likeness and The Jamm being two that stood out for musical delivery.
  11. I bought an Aguilar Tonehammer from Ian, he responded to a wanted ad that I had placed. Good comms throughout and swift delivery, plus an after sales message to make sure I was happy with it (which I am). Great transaction all round.
  12. Turns out our guitarist in The Spacewasters also plays guitar in an Americana band, The Dog Roses.
  13. That’s very decent of them, a thumbs up 👍
  14. Nice one Simon
  15. It all depends, if material such as Led Zep, Kansas, Dio-era Rainbow then quite complex. We do this stuff in my non-gigging band and I love it, it’s made me a much better bassist so I’d say go for it Steve.
  16. From what I’ve heard off of Slash’s new album he seems to be doing some good blues - on a 335 I should point out. My copy on way.
  17. Agree, adjusting the truss rod on the JMJs is a doddle, especially with the above. On my MIJ I have to take the neck off - aaarrgh!
  18. I think the only song I’ve played where the material was like this was one in my old band. It was still a full on punk song but the lyrics were quite dark, it was about those rat-faced scum that killed Sophie Lancaster & her boyfriend just because they were different.
  19. My current gigging band only rehearses when either we’ve got a gig coming up - we only do about 10 a year, if that - or if working on material. As we’re a garage punk type band it doesn’t hurt to have a slightly loose feel and fortunately when we do get together there isn’t anyone lagging.
  20. Well given I’m a lazy so-and-so Russ, it was: 1 for home use 1 in the single gig bag for rehearsals 1 in the double gig bag (with a cheap backup) for gigs I just can’t be faffed with taking out/putting instruments in different cases all the time
  21. I have to admit, to my shame, that in my younger years I didn’t look after my bass (in the 80s I only had the one) at all. Our guitarist was always commenting on the state of it. Gunk on the fretboard, action really high, intonation not set, I just didn’t look after that bass at all.
  22. That’s a lovely bass. I wonder though, if any of the people who walked past when the photo was taken thought “ah, shame he can’t afford a Fender, maybe one day”.
  23. In 1987 I went to buy a Fender Precision. It would have been £325 but they didn’t have any in stock. A pint back then was about 65p so that was the equivalent of 500 pints. A pint now is around a fiver and a US Fender Precision is £1800 - equivalent of 360 pints. So either Precisions or pints have got cheaper!
  24. With all of my basses I find that I have to set the pickup heights to the point where the low G doesn’t boom then adjust accordingly so the other strings match in volume. I never get boom on any of the other notes/strings. This has been the same across Precisions, Jazzes, Mustangs and Stingrays and with many different amps & cabs.
  25. There is a sub-section called Wotzit Worth for this very purpose, way down in the For Sale section, did you put your post there or in another section?
