TC Polytune gets my vote. I generally use the clip version for rehearsals & gigs but use the pedal for intonation & set-ups.

After many years of recommending the Fender Rumble amps, based upon both the specs but very importantly having heard them in use I’ve finally got one myself. Needed due to back issues, at around 13kg it’s the same weight as one of my Ashdown cabs so in terms of carting stuff about I lose having to carry the my RM500 (only 3kg or so) but also lose having to lean over to plug in speaker leads etc. Additionally as the controls are on the top I’m assuming this makes adjustments when on stage easier. I can put the power lead in my Mono M80 as well so practically it’s winning already, less gear/no of items to carry. Sound - well only been able to use it at home volumes but it’s very easy to get the sound I want. The Drive is very good, with careful setting rather than being full on drive it can really add thickness to the sound which to me is a real benefit, the combo being a 210 being able to thicken the sound up is a real bonus. Overall I’m very pleased with it, some of our gigs will require me to provide a full bass rig, in fact our next one does, so this amp is going to make my life easier. I’d have put up with it irrespective as needs must but it really does sound great so I’m feeling rather chuffed.

US Standard Fender Precisions have 250 pots and 0.47 capacitor. Changing the tone to 500 might free up some more room on this.

I always send post rather than pre. The reason for this is that the flat tone of my basses gets in the way of the guitars and doesn’t sound good with them. My tone is adding some highs and dropping some low mids so nothing boomy or distorted that is difficult to deal with, just sculpted a little.

I really like them, great sounding cabs, deliver that classic Ampeg sound.

Just got in from a Spacewasters gig at The 100 Club in London, supporting King Kurt & The Polecats. Used my JMJ Mustang into my Ashdown RM500v2 into whatever the cab that was there was. Doors opened 7:30, we were on at 8:00 and for that time not a bad sized crowd at all. Played well and got some very good applause. Was nice to be on a big stage again, especially now we’re a 5-piece. One of the guitarists sadly broke 2 strings (at separate times) so we had to change things about a bit (they both work in London so only had one guitar each as had come from work) a bit disconcerting for me as I then ended up doing half lead vocals on a song which ain’t my bag, but the show must go on. Nice & easy trip home too which made for an all round good gig.

I’ve always thought that too. There’s also the thought that if they’re not asking for more it might be cos they don’t want it.

That’s a shame, at Wembley last Friday the sound was spot on.

The Spacewasters are playing at The 100 Club, Oxford St, London tomorrow Thu 11 April, opening up the evening for King Kurt then The Polecats.

We (The Spacewasters) have a few, not too many and quite well spaced apart which suits me well, the next being at The 100 Club in Oxford St tomorrow night supporting The Polecats and King Kurt. This will be the 4th gig this year and all have been well attended so originals on the punky/psychobilly scene still going good.

Kudos to that, 30 of Bruce Foxtons basslines in 2 weeks is an achievement to be proud of

Yeah I think due to the thru-body stringing the tension is a bit more than on top loaders - I certainly found that to be the case on my reg scale US Fenders so can’t see why it wouldn’t be the same on short scale.

That’s sad news re the licensee at the S&G @tvickey, recently one of the main promoters from there sadly passed as well.

So given I appear to be developing arthritis in the knuckle on the thumb on my left (fretting) hand I’ve noticed playing my JMJ Mustangs a tad painful at times. So tried out my backup Squier CV60s Mustang a lot over the weekend, found the slimmer Jazz width neck much better for this so today picked up a Made In Japan Fender Mustang to be my main gigging bass. Have to put a set of Elixirs on it as it currently has Labella Mustang Flats which aren’t my thing. First impressions are a really nice bass with a very comfortable to play neck.

I really like the idea of the cab-sim DI, great get a really near approximation of your on-stage sound through FOH. Am assuming Ashdown have voiced it like their own cabs (which I really like).

In my band we have me who can hardly carry anything due to back issues and our singer - who was also was our guitarist - sadly had to have the lower half of his right leg amputated following a motorbike accident, so we`ve two in a band of five that aren`t able to carry much. We get by, though being an originals band we seldom have to carry a lot of gear.

I never notice it until I read about it, and even then I went and checked my JMJ to make sure. Could be something to do with being a pick player I suppose, or that in general I`m a non-noticer.

I must admit I read of these incidents and thank my lucky stars yet again that in the bands/scene I`m in these don`t seem to happen. Possibly the bands and audiences together would protest a little too forcefully (and I really wouldn`t want some of those characters giving me a Paddington stare).

Not sure about poweramps specifically but there`s the Ashdown Ant, and I`m sure that a Trace Elf or Warwick Gnome could be adapted pretty easily to fit on a board.

I`m not that familiar with country bassists but a country artist I really like is Morgan Wade, her music is great.

Go for it Greg, opportunity of a lifetime, if you end up hating it then just don’t do it again.

I’ve always thought of the Shape button as the “get out of the way” option, it just seems to put the bass in a place all of its own.
