  1. Just got in from seeing Tremonti at The Forum in Kentish Town. Went along with my mates for an evening out but although the band are obviously super talented and incredibly tight it’s not really my thing. I don’t regret going along but I don’t think I’d go to see them again. Big shout out to the support band Florence Black though, enjoyed their set and imo they had a better mix than the headliner. Wonder if the bassist is on here?
  2. I did this @KingBollock, in 1987 I had a Yamaha BB1100s and nostalgia has gripped me recently so got the same model/colour scheme. I did actually think it could be my old bass as has wear & tear in same places but the seller had had it since 1985.
  3. I`ve no info on these but an old mate (sadly deceased now, RIP Mike) had a CMI Jazz bass and it sounded amazing.
  4. Yes, our old producer had a Squier Affinity Telecaster, he had it set up so good that it played and sounded fantastic, I`m sure someone given the guitar with the headstock/logo covered would have thought it was an instrument costing 10 times more.
  5. Priority response I should think
  6. The Gulf of Tort
  7. I look at this in the same way as Marathons, someone may have rebranded them but to me they’ll always be Marathons, Gulf of Mexico will always be that no matter what anyone else calls it.
  8. A bit like a cat marking its territory @SimonK
  9. Just not right, in all cases. Some I’ve returned straight away as not for me (a recent one due to neck size and my arthritic thumb) others after a while I’ve realised they just work out long term so sold them on. Fortunately I’ve never bought an instrument that I’ve found horrific.
  10. I prefer to try a bass out if it’s not a model I’m familiar with wherever possible, a few times I’ve done the leap of faith and it’s not worked out.
  11. This has been my backup plan for a while, in case I ever have to give up bass & guitar.
  12. Hope it all works out for you @thebrig
  13. There will be a revolution - musically of course, happened many times, tastes change. I think of my youth from early 70s to my 30s in the mid nineties, punk, new wave, two tone, New Romantics, hair metal, grunge, Brit pop. Admittedly all bands unlike what’s current but people get fed up of the same stuff after a while.
  14. First off look at what your current bass isn’t doing for you, then the question is do any of those mentioned solve that. If so then put the miles in if possible to try them out.
  15. Think that’s great that Jamie Stewart replied to give advice/info.
  16. Yup, ACS PRO 17s for me, their most natural sounding ones apparently.
  17. It happens, in my first proper band we played at Manchester poly. On the way back, once we were on the M6 I fell asleep and when I woke up we were in this dark lane with Welsh sign posts. Apparently the driver/singer got lost cos I was meant to be navigating. Manchester to Hemel is essentially south on the M6 then M1, that’s it.
  18. Imo the smoothest easy going voice ever, she just sounded effortless when singing, and her voice takes me back to my childhood in the early 70s, fond memories - think some of tomorrow will be spent on Amazon sourcing a best of.
  19. Ouch!
  20. I had a Peavey 1x15, had a Black Widow in it I think, awesome sounding cab, weighed something like 95lbs - and I lived in a 2nd floor flat when I had it, no lift.
  21. Same here, my preferred genres are punk & heavy rock, but my fave song ever? Seasons in The Sun by Terry Jacks.
  22. Embrace the rock stance if it’s better for your back, if it means practicing a lot to get used to it then put the work in. Ironically I’ve had to do the exact opposite, heighten my bass for my back, doesn’t seem right to me but the back says thanks.
  23. We`ll miss the weekly updates in How Was Your Gig, Dave, but all the best for whatever direction you decide to take, sometimes just having a break really reinvigorates.
  24. Just watching Alanis Morissettes set, incredibly good (and nice to see a Gibson Les Paul bass too).
