  1. Yes that will be fine. Your amp is 600 watts at 4ohms so connecting an 8ohm cab to it approximately halves the amount of power delivered to it, so 300 watts, which your 410 will handle. If you connect up another cab, as long as it’s another 8ohm cab effectively each cab will then receive 300 watts, so make sure this cab is also capable of handling 300 watts or more (the theory says the best second cab should be the same as the first one).
  2. From the bands I’ve been in I’m not sure they’d know any basses other than the ones I was playing.
  3. Unless you’re likely to get a soundcheck I’d go for the condom. The desk will have the sound set for their mics and although any experienced sound person should be able to sort quickly, your first song is the one where you want to grab the crowd, having them need to sort levels and eq on that is risky.
  4. For years I tried and couldn’t get along with compression, but then I was playing with gain/drive and digging in as hard as possible all the time, maybe I already had the compression I needed with the drive, and dynamics weren’t a factor. Now however I’m playing with a lighter touch, lighter pick, no drive, and have minimal compression. I’ve just chosen the “even everything out” setting from the manual, it doesn’t seem to do anything until I switch it off, which I suppose is a sign it’s working as it should. Holds me back a bit, which is what I wanted, nothing special, no instant miracles, just smooth things out a tad.
  5. You know I hadn’t realised that I was using the Shape feature, I just used the same settings as last rehearsal which was the first time using this amp with my current band, and which was 5 months ago. For some reason “in” is off, “out” is on. Would explain why you think out is a bit rich, it scoops mids and adds lows/highs. Thinking about it that’s probably why I’ve upped my mids a fair bit.
  6. I don’t know, to me it’s like deciding to be a classic rock/metal band doing stuff like AC/DC, Anvil, Maiden etc, dressing and performing the part and then sticking Rio or Karma Chameleon in the set to keep a band member happy. Once they get their way on one song it will snowball, within a year the original idea will seem as long ago as the 80s themselves.
  7. I think you’re right, have a theme and stick to it, offer something a bit different to the regular mix & match of the same songs in a different order.
  8. I’ve had similar experiences, “we can’t make refund until you close the dispute”. Oh yes you can, one chance to make that very refund or watch your message fly it’s way to your CEOs inbox. Heres your refund.
  9. I found it less of a drive function and more of a sound thickener and harmonics adder. Yes there is some drive/gain there but it’s subtle, unlike that on the RM amps which quickly becomes apparent in anything after about 9 o’clock on the control.
  10. We did that for some friends of ours who were over from the US, aside from sticks & picks we provided everything for them. We did get main support slot though.
  11. Fave - Gibson/Marshall such as AC/DC, Guns N Roses Least fave - that tinny weak distorted single coil-ish sound that many American bands used, such as Talking Heads, The Strokes
  12. Give it to your guitarist telling him it will make him sound better......,
  13. Probably the only Spice Girls song that I like.
  14. I do the same as Ed, makes life a lot easier
  15. And she was in an episode of Minder this week too.
  16. Some bands seem to like using other peoples gear, they just turn up, help themselves to the free beer, play, then leave straight after their set. As a mate of ours said, they’re not bands, they’re a bunch of blokes on a night out.
  17. Can just imagine that being played at The Blitz in the early 80s, just oozes that vibe
  18. All booked in for Tuesday, will of course be taking the obligatory packet of biscuits that permits me access to Ashdown HQ.
  19. Love the look of that 44-64, Si, right up my street that is.
  20. Whenever I’ve lent my rig I’ve told the people using it of the rules, no blowing it up, no drinks to be put on it. I have walked on to the stage mid-set to remove a drink that was on my amp.
  21. Having done many gigs like this, in the main it works along the lines of letting them use cabs & drum shells/stands. They’ll need to bring amp heads, cymbals, snare drum, kick drum pedals.
  22. They’ll have quite different core sounds so I’d do a search on YouTube and vote with your ears. Ashdown is a nice warm sound, fits nicely into the mix and although you can add plenty of highs they don’t get too harsh. GK is much cleaner and sharper, growls like a good un, and can get harsh if required on that top end.
  23. Yes, must admit after having had to set it this way I’m going to take it to Ashdown for a service as my first one didn’t need this amount of input gain and it seemed a lot louder as well, I rarely took that amp past 10 o’clock on output/volume.
  24. Mine at rehearsal last night (so good to be rehearsing again) was as below. Using my Precision and the studios SVT810, which is a bit boomy hence the pushed top end. Sounded great though, really good solid presence in the mix. No Drive even tho setting at midday, with boomy cab it was too much so switched it off.
