1. I like to play stuff the staff (& shoppers) are unlikely to know..... Usually, 'Little Dirty Blonde' by Winger, 'Whats This World Comin' To' by Chicago, 'Sweet Maxine' by The Doobie Brothers, 'Champagne Jam' by Atlanta Rhythm Section or the like..... They are cool basslines that will make people look up, but obscure enough that they won't know whether you are butchering them or not!!
  2. If you want a quality, fire retardent (very important!) backdrop and bass drum head with logo then contact GCB at Rockdrops [[email protected]] (GCB) and tell him that Gary (Spector bassist) recommended him. He does amazing work and will do you the best deal he can....
  3.
Piccies for your viewing pleasure. 1987 Streamer bass (note the cherry body, the wenge through neck, the one-piece bridge, the non-angled tuners and the EMG's)
Those old Streamers (80's) are lovely..... and that's a very nice example.

    Mesa!

In the region of £400 - £500. The diesel cabs are worth about £50 less..... Superb cabs, particularly if EV loaded!
  5.
Er guys, that's not the high road. The high road is not responding, or sending a response like "Thank you for your comments - we appreciate fan feedback". I'd just let it die.
But then there would be no 'fun' thread.... And twats like that need to be responded to and invited to show everyone their one jazz chord....
  6.
The last show I went to was basically two hours on the road for little more than overly-loud software demonstrations and a huge bunch of spotty teenagers trying desperately to out-widdle each other. And the ones on the guitars were even worse. There was almost nothing of interest bass-wise, the sole exception being the good Doctor with his E-Basses. Apart from that it was a low-end desert. I wouldn't have minded picking up a bargain, but all I left with was the prospect of a two hour journey home. So I won't be going to this one.
I agree..... I resent paying to look around what basically is an overly busy music shop stocking nothing of particular interest.... and having my ears assaulted by the white-noise that is a hundred bedroom guitarists widdling pointlessly.....
  7. Andertons are offering them at £599...... VERY tempting! For those who prefer black, they're only offereing white so far though....... suits me!
  8.
I'd ask Gene Simmons whether he'd sell his grandmothers remains if someone offered enough money.
Of course he would..... I'd ask Peter Cetera why he stopped being a brilliant bassist and instead pyt down his bass & became a singer of bland ballads? Actually, I already know the answer to that.... money/ego/easy life....
  9.
check this out- the forthcoming Duff McKagan signature bass- http://www.meconline.co.uk/acatalog/info%5f0146500323%2ehtml strangely the J pickup looks slightly closer to the neck - it's inline with the pickup selector switch.
That's GREAT news for me.... but maybe not for people with original ones....! hmmm... So, I can get a brand new reissue one.... or it may drive down the prices of the originals so I could get one of those. Conversely, I guess......, it could increase demand for the originals? Thoughts?
  10. Yep, you need a license from MCPS.... but give them away free and you don't need a license. Try selling t-shirts of your band.... and including a free CD with each purchase. That's the best way around it....
  11. Kate Bush has some great fretless basslines.... Check out 'Breathing', 'Babooshka' etc
  12. God Gave Rock n Roll To You (KISS) - cover of old Argent track Got To Get You Into My Life (Cliff Bennett & The Rebel Rousers) - cover of Beatles I'm A Man (Chicago) - cover of Spencer Davis Group
  13.
Thanks, folks. I have no real idea of her history, but she is in absolute unplayed condition with the exception of 3 small dings. Incredible, really. She must have been left under a bed for 20 years. It's a shame really, as I got this bass to be my rehearsal and gigging bass. But I can't afford to buy things and not use them! (A case is next on my shopping list!)
Wow! Let me know if you ever want to sell her on.....
  14. Lovely! She looks in excellent condition too! Always fancied one of those myself.... Where did you find her? eBay?
  15. Detroit Rock City - KISS (Gene Simmons) Queen Of Misery - Toy Matinee (Guy Pratt) What's This World Comin' To? - Chicago (Peter Cetera) Sweet Maxine - The Doobie Brothers (Tiran Porter) Somewhere I've Never Travelled - Ambrosia (Joe Puerta) Kid Charlemagne - Steely Dan (Chuck Rainey) and many more.....
  16.
and the Phil Lynott look!
Yep, Phil had one like this.... but he used one with a rosewood board more often....
  17. I gig 2 - 6 times a month. Enough to look forward to it.... not so much as to get sick of the travelling / loading in & out etc...
  18.
I'm sure he had no idea what he was in for or what he was doing. You'd expect someone in a shop to say "we don't do that and we're not the people to ask". A helpful shop would then say "ask such and such".
+1,000,000
  19.
i have to agree with Gene Simmons - have you heard some of the lines he puts in to some of their earlier material? he manages to provide just the right line for the song. if you listen to the line he plays in "rock and roll all night", and then realise he sings against it as well! GIT!
Aww.... that's not too bad.... I actually find that one to be one of the easiest to sing & play with the Tribute band....but try singing & playing 'Goin Blind' by KISS!
  20.
....but I have (yet) another question. The basses seem to be offered in 2 shades of white, OWB & VWH. I presumed OWB would be olympic white, and VWH would be vintage white. However, in the little pictures they use to display each finish, VWH looks 'whiter' than the OWB. Is this correct? I always presumed that olympic white was pure white, and that the vintage white was a kind of 'fagburst' creamy colour.
This confused the hell out of me too..... There seem to be four colours of 'white'..... OWH (Olympic White), OWB (Olympic White Blonde), VWH (Vintage White Blonde) and USB (US Blonde) OWB and USB are yellower I believe.... Without seeing four basses lined up side by side of the four different colours it's really hard to see the subtle differences...
  21.
And the man said PB70-78US OWH RW US$614 JB75-100US VWH MA US$787 JB62-58SBL US$456 JB62 -76 3CS US$ 598 JB75 -100US NAT US$ 787 All plus 16000 yen shipping (about 70 quid) plus the normal UK import tax, VAT etc .. Is that better than Ishibashi? I can't find the new stuff on the Ishibashi site... Email here is you want to deal with him: hisashi Guitar [email protected]
Unfortunately, even with $2 to £1 this still works out at more than Ishibashi..... Nice 'find' though!
  22.
Ive never actually managed to find a spector... any ideas?
Any Sound Control store..... or eBay... or here....
