Help - I have fallen for Velvet Animas
Beer of the Bass replied to adriansmith247's topic in EUB and Double Bass
I haven't used them, but some of the newer Aquila strings seem to be designed around similar concepts to the Velvets - relatively low tension, synthetic cores, copper windings etc. -

Fender Duff Mckagen Signature Jazz Bass Special inc fender gig bag. I have owned this since new (approx 10 years) it’s been gigged a lot but in overall good condition. It has a few small dings & marks which I have photographed. It has a really slim neck, and very low action, and is lovely to play. It has the TBX treble boost circuit. It’s the original signature model, not the newer one, and has since been discontinued. Old GAK demo video is here: The colour has aged into champagne/off white colour. The input jack washer kept working itself loose, so it has been glued, but it can still be undone. I am playing five string basses now, so this isn’t getting any use. Collection from between Dartford/Gravesend. Happy to send over any more pictures/videos if you would like them. I haven’t sold anything on here for a while, but I could prob dig out some old transactions/members for any feedback. Any questions please ask

Basically just don’t put the main footswitch into preset selection mode (long press); just leave it as an engage/bypass switch.

Ok. I'm in. Stop sniggering at the back! I only failed on two basses, an amp and bucketload of other gear last year.

Hi Phil, I think, about a year or so ago, you commented that the D-A/A-D on cheaper mixers was noticeably inferior to that on dedicated interface units. Where do you feel the Flow 8 sits on that line? I have the option of 'upgrading' to a Flow 8, or connecting my analogue Alto ZMX862 with my Steinberg UR22C interface to achieve the same functionality, so I'd value your (and anyone else's) feedback. I’m not sure that six abstained out of about 20000 members really constitutes a statistically significant “not everyone” - have you considered a future in Government?

Pedulla MVP-4 Signature, 1989, amazing condition

OK, I got the WX52- and I have been pretty impressed with it, tried it tonight in a practice, really good sound quality and a solid build.
-
Mine runs my AVII scarily close for tone and may have the edge for playability.
-
I have a fender one and it has been good, which is a surprise as every other fender cable I have had has been junk. Maybe it was a lucky accident.
-
Not terrible, but a couple of centimetres at least, coupled with high winds, with more to come. It’s not necessarily the conditions, rather other road users, with a lack of respect for the conditions. Stay home, keep warm, have another JD.

Admitting it is the first step to overcoming your affliction. Well done.

It started off as me trying to find a sound something between Tony Levin (circa Thrak-era King Crimson) and Justin Chancellor, which gradually morphed into its own thing to accommodate my tastes and playing technique. I used to be a fairly heavy-handed player, but I'm playing with a far lighter touch these days but I still want things to sound big, so I'm using two compressors in series, Levin-style, to control the dynamics, then, in terms of EQ, notching out that boxy-sounding 800Hz frequency range and gently boosting low and high mids. I also mostly play a 6-string these days, so I've had to adjust the EQ and compression to accommodate the high C so it doesn't sound brittle compared to the others. I also have an alternate version of this sound for fretless where I don't dial out the 800Hz range, since that's where a lot of the "mwah" lives in the frequency spectrum. I'm currently using a Headrush Flex Prime for effects - not a popular choice for bass (it doesn't have many bass-specific effects, amps or IRs), but it's small, powerful, easy to use and does everything I need it to do. It also came with the ReValver amp modelling software, which I used to model my previous Zoom B3n-based tone, directly from the pedal, so I had a good starting point to go from there.
