  1. Past hour
  2. It is mainly fun....trying not to fall out with 8 other souls!!!
  3. Back in the early 90s we thought that in order to impress a number of scouts (that's record company ones, not boys in shorts) we'd need to be uninhibited and exciting on stage. Which of course meant about 6 pints and a noseful of coke each. We played abysmally... We never saw any scouts again! But saying that, in the same band we'd always have some weed at rehearsals and gigs (actually, weed wasn't that available - it tended to be more of the soapbar solid variety which meant it wasn't usually very strong compared to the skunk available nowadays!). And we played well - our live recording in our living room still sounds OK now! (If you want a laugh! ) However, I have a max of 1 beer (*) before playing now, and haven't smoked any dope in decades! *that's often due to driving though - recent gig in Chester saw at least 2 pints and a good glug of tequila before playing as the hotel was only 100m away! No decent cock-ups either...
  4. Check very carefully on pack up, the forensics might give away that non-domestic activities may have taken place. A great account of the build, inspiring for warmer weather.
  5. Telecaster by Upbeat Guitars. UK made Here we have a beautiful; Telecaster built in the UK by Upbeat Guitars. It is in pristine condition, despite being 10 years old! The body is one piece ash with a maple neck. Pickups are both genuine Fenders, with a single coil in the bridge plus a nice fat Texas humbucker in the neck position. Expect every sound possible from a country twang through to the hard rock of Led Zeppelin 1 (recorded on a Tele). New set of D’addarioio strings on. No case and no trades thanks. Price when it was new was £499. Yours for only £300 Chaddesden, Derby All proceeds will go towards a charity for the homeless in Derby and a Home for street kids in Bogota, Colombia.
  6. Thanks man. Its between 16.5/17mm spacing
  7. No point in naming an animal if it won't come when you call. Cats have their own names and they'll never tell. That said, Pixel is my favoured name for small felines, after The Cat Who Walks Through Walls.
  8. Bretheren, My Fender American Standard 4 string Jazz is extremely dark sounding and I just can't brighten it at all. Spec: Fender 9050 flatwounds - I won't change these as they're all I use POI Cap Solderless Controls - I informed the builder I was after warm vintage tones and he recommended the POI Tonerider Classic Pickups As a comparison, I have a Fender 70's Vintera Jazz which is far less bassy sounding. Spec: Fender 9050's Orange Cap Solderless Controls Standard Vintera Pickups A few questions: *Should I consider fitting Orange Cap controls to the AM to brighten it a bit? *If not, what are a good set of brighter passive pickups? I'm liking the brightness of the Dimarzio Ultra Jazz set after watching a few vids. Any experience with these using flats? Cheers, George
  9. Is that the Swiff WX520 Woody? Did you have the Xvive U4 before and feel these are a step up?

  13. Hadn’t played a BB for years… BassBros is extremely bad for the wallet by the way😮 Now I have taken the pickup ramp off, given it a good polish, and had my tech stone the frets it plays like a dream. I was looking at a rather sexy blue AVRI ii Precision at the same time but the BB very easily won for both tone and playability. Sorry for spoiling the picture of the bass with my ugly mug 😂😂
  14. Selling as I am changing direction a bit. This combo is fantastic though and in excellent condition, maybe done 6 gigs max. I include a Roqsolid cover that has a handy side pocket. Trade wise, I might be interested in a Barefaced One10 with money coming my way What they say --- Building on the foundation of Gallien-Krueger's popular Microbass amps, the Fusion Series offers a wealth of player-friendly features for today's gigging musician. Bringing together performance and portability, the Gallien-Krueger Fusion 112 is a high-powered combo that is ready for the biggest stages, the home studio and everything in between. The Fusion 112 is a compact bass combo boasting an eye-watering 800 watts of solid state power and features GK's unique 6-stage tube powered preamp. The 12ax7 tubes in the EQ section bring a warmth to the sound that compliments the already wide ranging and useful response. Additional “Voice”, “Cut”, “Body”, “Bump”, “Contour”, “Hi Cut” and “Presence” voicing filters allow you to dial in the perfect bass tone with ease. The independent overdrive circuit is also powered by a pair of tubes, working just like the input stage of a tube power amp. When you dig in and player harder, you get an organic breakup similar to that of a tube amp. The overdrive channel can be activated via the included footswitch for seamless use in a live environment. At the heart of the Fusion 112 is a 12" Neodymium woofer and 1" tweeter, manufactured by GK specifically for the Fusion Series. The speakers and cabinets are designed from the ground up to work together to deliver the best possible performance for bass guitar. All Fusion Series amps use a unique interconnection system to help eliminate problems that can arise from extremes in temperature and heavy vibrations. By using circuit boards with gold-plated connectors as opposed to cables with standard tin connectors, the Fusion 112 is extremely reliable and delivers a purer sound. The Fusion 112 also boasts universal power for seamless 100 to 240 volt operation, making it perfectly suited for everything from local jams to major tours anywhere in the world.

  17. That is beyond sweeeeeet!
  18.
  19. Nice bass. Is the string spacing 16mm?
  20. Drugs were important for music. Without them, many things simply wouldn't exist. But this shouldn't be glorified; drugs have caused just as much suffering and misery. In my first band - I was 15 years old -, rehearsals were basically parties. We drank an unbelievable amount of beer and smoked just as much weed. We often had girls over whom we'd met the night before at a club or a concert and thought we could impress. When I listen to the recordings today (we recorded practically everything), I can only laugh at our youthful stupidity. What we produced in a state of mental derangement was absolute garbage. Nevertheless, we managed to get good enough to play gigs regularly, which kept getting bigger. For a while, we were even relatively successful. Then two things happened that have shaped my opinion about sobriety in a band to this day. 1. We got so incredibly drunk before a big gig that it was a complete embarrassment. We kept messing up and had to restart songs. Between songs, I told stories that I thought were hilarious and clever at the time. They weren't. When I listened to the recording the next day, I was deeply ashamed. 2. One of the band members became increasingly addicted to cocaine and showed the usual symptoms. He told everyone that he was the "star" and we were just his backing band. When we found out, we fired him. That was the end of the band. Funny fact: He's a doctor now. Since then, I've never drunk more than a small beer before a gig. Excessive alcohol or even drug use is out of the question for me in a band. Not only because you can't get anything done, but also because I don't want those kinds of people around me.
  21. Already a bargain at £100 including postage was my thinking.
  22. Today
  23. Charlie Parker, Billie Holiday, Joe Pass, Chet Baker and a whole host of other great Jazz performers would like a word!
