Suggestions for an inexpensive P Bass with a Jazz neck
Grahambythesea replied to Minininjarob's topic in Bass Guitars
I had a Squier P/J Precision with a Jazz neck bought from a charity shop so no idea of the model. Played okay but sold it on. -

Thanks for that @Grahambythesea! I wonder if that is where Tony Levin got his inspiration from.

Very neat. Nice idea. When I use it, I shall be sure to point out that I am using the patented Al Nico 'Cable Restraint At Point' method. -

I honestly put my head in my hands there and told myself off for yet another stupid typo. It's entirely in character for me...

You've got to admit though, getting any sort of tune out of a chimney is pretty impressive.

He was aiming at the harmonica player, who got up and started playing during the premiere of the 1812. Tchaikovsky was so grateful to that audience member for his timely intervention, that he wrote the part into all subsequent performances. True story.

Just got a EBS MB3, need a cheap IR loader for headphone practice.
dave_bass5 replied to dave_bass5's topic in Effects
Thanks. I must admit until i got the Nux i too never got on with IR’s. Even when i had my Stomp i couldn’t use them. This is partly why i wanted to get a dirt cheap one. Nothing lost if i doesn't work for me. Could be the EBS will be fine without it anyway, it’s arriving today. -

BigRedX replied to dave_bass5's topic in Effects
Be aware that most of the budget IR loaders add quite a bit of latency to the signal, some of them approach unacceptable amounts. IME adding cab models always seems to make my bass sound worse. I just use the EQ until I get a sound I like. -
I've no idea what 'Taranis' means but apparently this was a bass designed for metal. Not that I used it for that and it sounded great for the more mellow stuff i've been using it for of late, very woody! EDIT Just found that Taranis is a Celtic god of thunder. The four string variant was tuned BEAD.

Another Wednesday night for me playing rock n roll at a local club. A three piece band ( guitar, bass and drums ) using the house PA for vocals and our own backline. A reasonable crowd all wanting to dance, so we obliged with a good selection of stuff including ‘Flip flop and fly’, ‘Lipstick, powder and paint’, ‘Sea cruise’, and some more recent tunes like ‘I knew the bride’ and ‘Rockabilly rebel’. We ended the evening with ‘Tennessee Waltz’ as a tribute to Connie Francis. I used my P-Lyte into a Hartke 3500 and my old Loud 4x10. Couple of musos commented it didn’t sound as good as my Rumble 500 I used last week, and I have to agree. We get to leave the gear at the club though, and I use the Rumble on other gigs so it’s easier for me to use this set up , but I maybe do need to consider getting another Rumble at some point.

NBD: 1995 Stingray + mods reversal + blender strangeness!
Chiliwailer replied to HeadlessBassist's topic in Bass Guitars
The original ‘95 pickup would need to be modded for coil split, but it’s possible as I’ve done it before. I wonder if the switch wiring is causing the issue though 🤔 If you tap the coils with something metal, like a screwdriver, it’ll let you know for sure which ones are on/off in each position. Odd that the blend wasn’t removed from the circuit tbh - maybe because the OBP-1 wiring can need a few changes when using different set up configurations, but it’s not that hard really, there are diagrams on their site. Anyway, lovely bass - I have a couple from that period 👌 -
Hi. When the cable you spent considerable time and money on lets you down much earlier than you'd expect, or feel it's failure is unproportionate considering the cost, even if postage was free. Rather than burn energy writing to the manufacturers to provide productive feedback, restore the situation by fitting the elasticated clip tie to the instrument. In addition to helping cables last longer, the elastication can prevent whiplash when other showbiz stakeholders become entangled. Patent applied for 2025.

The very lightest tuners (for a Stingray) - advice please
Delberthot replied to Woodwind's topic in Repairs and Technical
I'm surprised that Gotoh didn't offer a Musicman / G&L version of the Resolite given that there were MIJ G&Ls and the Musicman EX series. Ultralites will leave visible screw holes but only you will see them, although you could use HB1 tuners. Not as light as the Ultralites but possibly lighter than the originals. Out of curiosity, how light is your Sterling that it has neck dive? Mine is 10lbs but feels lighter as the neck points slightly upwards so I never had an issue with neck dive.- 14 replies
