Damn it! I had been getting quite comfortable just using my Boss GX-10 that has decent enough Tuner, EQ, Compressor, Drive, and modulation and delay effects - enough that I wasn't really after any indididual pedals. It is convenient and means I can get all my Amp + Cables + Bass stand + Effects etc. in one single relatively small bag for gigs. .....But I've just received an Octamizer in a part exchange - and nothing on a multi-fx quite gets that same analogue octave sound, and the GX-10 (or other multi-fx) don't quite get the analogue analogue filter feel of something like an MXR Bass Envelope Filter so I'd been eyeing up them again. And now this MXR Bass synth (and @knicknack's excellent video) is enough to tip me over the edge! The GX-10 is more of a stand-alone thing as it is a bit big to incorporate into a pedal board so it puts me on the path of selling it and getting indididual pedals yet again!

Here it is. I posted a build diary on here last year, I think.
-
Didn't see it all first time - started watching it in a pub in Ambleside in Cumbria, then hitched back to Co Durham and caught the end at home. Those were the days... Watched bits of the replay at the weekend. Musically, I enjoyed Simple Minds, Sting, and Dire Straits with Sting on BVs - brilliant. Queen obviously. Funny to see the mic-lead minders who had to crouch at the front of the stage to stop people tripping - at one stage a bloke ran on stage and had to loop one right over Adam Clayton's head, though I don't suppose anyone now wd've minded if Bono tripped - what a palaver over giving someone in the crowd a kiss. I might give that a try at my gigs this weekend 😉

I did manage to dig out photos of the body from when I picked it up - just so you have the complete timeline of the project. The bridge is actually still good so I will retain it for a future project. It's good quality Gotoh part, which is actually still in production. So, I ordered an identical bridge, only in black (because it's cooler).

Should I get this bass ? Stored for 20 years
Stub Mandrel replied to feech's topic in EUB and Double Bass
Looking at the advice, if it was me, I would find the cash as it seems an opportunity to 'try out' double bass with minimal risk. It looks like, with care, you can just tune up and try it. Obviously a setup would be advantageous but beyond that it would be decide whether to stick with and possibly improve it, or to get a better instrument. My only advice would be that it seems easy to dislodge the soundpost when changing strings. It's a far better starting point than the one in this thread: -
Yes he was getting frustrated and worked up about kids starving to death ,and swearing on tv at 7pm. Yeah, what an insensitive scruffy oaf , no class at all .

LukeFRC started following Sadowsky P sound
-
For many years now my main bass has been this Sadowsky metro will lee - it's a bit of a unicorn in that it doesn't really sound like other Sadowsky I have tried and I love it. However if you took all my basses away from me and told me I could only buy one - it would be a precision and I went on a long search for what I wanted... and now have this Jazz and a Precision. I seriously seriously suggest buying a P bass of some kind - don't devalue or take away from what the Sadowsky is doing - it does its thing and it does it well. A P bass is a different thing, and in my book at least is better with a vintage bridge and passive electronics .... A passive Sire P bass can sometimes be found for not much more than the cost of switching the pickups pickguard etc and paying for someone to rout your bass and install for you.

For sale, my Hartke HA 3500 I'm guessing it needs little introduction..... But a super reliable amp in very good clean condition and full working order. Compressor, tube and solid state preamps, 10 band graphic and high/low pass filters complete a comprehensive feature set. 350 watts at 4 ohms 250 at 8 ohm. Always found it more than ample for pub gigs and rehearsals. Comes with rack ears for rack mounting. Will include postage to UK addresses but NI and outlying areas I'll have to get a quote. An questions feel free to ask Cheers

If either of these takes your fancy I'll print you one.

I made a post and after I submitted it, pictures from the previous post were appended to the end (from the picture of the manky cloth onwards). I can't delete them - I edit the post, delete them from the post then submit and they just keep coming back. https://www.basschat.co.uk/topic/514065-it-came-from-the-black-lagoon/#findComment-5507716 Some wee forum bug perhaps? Can someone please tidy them off the post for me, I can't seem to do it!

Not had this very long, bought this and a les paul copy to see which I preferred, and the les paul won! Only just though - it's a great instrument. Very playable neck, not heavy, and the neck pickup sounds particularly good. I've modified it slightly - tortoiseshell pickguard and cream covers and knobs. As you can see, I didn't do a very good job of enlarging the pole piece holes to fit the bridge pickup cover. I will include the original white guard, covers and knobs in the sale. Also put Graphtec string trees on. Lovely satin black finish, with the relicing on the back. The fingerboard is either reliced or played in, or both! It's great...! It's from 2012, by the way.

I don't know what's going on - those repeated pictures just appeared, and I can't delete them out of the post, they just keep coming back. EDIT: cheers to @Woodinblack for tidying up my mess!
