I do the set list and print them out to each member so that way we are all doing the same set. Until one night I decided not to wear glasses as I was trying to be cool, mis read the list and started one song whilst the rest of the band started the correct one. Glasses back on

Thanks for the feedback folks. Said friend has built a few guitar combos this way. He does reproductions of a Selmer combo he liked when younger, including building the valve amp. They are heavy for their size but I think that is down to the valve amp. The finger joints do look very cool (he just varnishes the combos). I think he has just used pine but at least 15mm, possibly 20. I’m a bit wary about pine TBH. All the stuff I’ve seen in the usual outlets is very green and I’m sure would be subject to shrinkage, cracking and possibly warping on drying out. I guess I could source furniture quality from somewhere to avoid this.

To be fair, the transparent ones do have a silvery aspect to them, when not being worn, you should be fine. I had no colour choice with my Elacins and, whilst not NHS beige, they do lean in that direction.

I have one of those cables that i occasionally run in to a P2. You could also use the headphone out with just a standard stereo jack cable. -

Hallo, upright people. I have never even picked up a double bass, much less played one, so please forgive that this question is coming from a place of complete ignorance... I've been listening to Miles Davis' Birth of the Cool this morning, which features Al McKibbon on several of the tracks. As I do, I've also been idly flicking through the wikipedia bios of the musicians on the record, and came across this picture of Al on his (though very little additional info, even though he lived to 86). Anyway, to the point of this post - what is all that ironmongery on his headstock? And would anyone have a clearer picture of something similar? Just curious! Thanks in anticipation.

Fair enough. I know little enough about either company, but my initial thought when I saw the two-tone Headstock with the big "A" was Alpher - for all I know Alpher is based on their design!

There has been some talk in my band of potentially investing in an IEM setup with an XR18. What's the best way of combining the two XLR outputs to one TRS jack cable? -
On both five and four string basses I tend to play all root notes on the E and A strings. I find the other strings (D, G and then the low B on the fiver) work better for accent stuff - either popping the higher octaves or playing something widdly up high, or with the low B really using it as an accent when trying to build the dynamics - kind of like a bass drop! So personally I stick to standard tuning, although do agree my E and A strings get the most use.

Thanks Woody - the TRS to TRS is simply a 1/4" to 3.5mm TRS adaptor - please see the pic in my last but one post (bottom of previous thread page). Seems to make no difference using that vs using a TS a TRS adaptor - but that may just be us not being overly impacted by the phase issue? I think what you're saying is best practice would be to use the TS to TRS adaptor (the silver one in the same pic)? And what this discussion has also made me realise is that if we want to transition to getting stereo for our IEMs e.g. with the Swiff WX520 - the A&H CQ-18T has two stereo headphone outs that could be assigned to providing this for two members of the band. We then have a further 6 balanced mono outs which some of which can be paired to provide additional stereo IEM feeds for those that want it (obviously not an option for the Xvive U4 users). That's definitely an additional worthwhile take-away from this chat! -
