This.... love the feel in his playing, especially the more groove driven tracks. They're a metal band where nobody really approaches it like typical metal players. Abe's drumming is the thing I love the most about them. His feel and touch is pretty unique in the genre. Was lucky enough to watch from side of stage when a band I look after shared a festival stage with them recently, seeing him play Digital Bath up close was an absolute highlight.

I'll tag along along for the ride in the hope I might learn something. I've also never used compression. Why do you feel you need one of curiosity?

Hi All, Looking for some expert opinions on this: I have a 1987 Streamer neckthrough with a one piece bridge. I've had it for 25 years or more and always loved the piano like tone from it. It originally had EMGs but I changed them to MEC years ago. (Still have the EMGs). Last year, the 2 band preamp gave trouble (pic below. Not sure what make it was). Warwick recommended a replacement of the Warwick 60004 pre, which I installed. However, I find it very middy, and I've lost that low clean bass, especially on the low E. It seems like the 60004 replacement pre has a bass frequency of 100hz. That seems high to me. Anyone else have this issue and what would you guys recommend as a suitable onboard pre? Ignore the makeshift thumbrest 🙂

It arrived yesterday. I had been looking for one for some time , but the market price for these is high , and I was hoping to eventually land a deal. Couldn’t pass this one up. I love short scale , hollow body basses , I’m a simple thumper at heart , and this is perfect. Very happy to finally land one. Love this bass.

It's quite a while since I was last in Nashville but I remember talking to a bass player who told me was getting 20 dollars a set on Broadway, three sets a day. The bandleader kept the tips. He asked me if he'd do better in London. I told him yes and no; you'll get more than that for a set but you won't play three sets a day.

Attenuation is likely required, but using series resistors, which is what it appears to be, is the wrong way to do it. An LPad is the right way, be it variable or using a fixed value with series/parallel resistors, just as using an NPE cap as a basic high pass filter is the wrong way to divide the frequencies and provide proper protection for the tweeter. Where the enclosure is concerned you can get a decent result with that driver, but because of the massive Vas not from 95L. 200L with 35Hz Fb is pretty good, but as the OP already has the box in hand that's probably not an option.

Some want to tame tiny technical errors in their playing (volume based, not wrong notes). This may also help some fx like octavers when in front of the unit. If you want to use all of the potential available of the fx you have, I would put the comp to the end of the chain. Then your playing affects effects (?) before you compress the result. Think about an envelope filter that squeaks after dynamic changes in your playing. I suggest you to try it right after the bass, after an OD/dist/fuzz, and after the fx chain. Turn knobs bravely to get an idea of how a comp really works. It can be an effect or a peak tamer. Many want the comp to cut the peaks (less peak volume), but also to push more vol to the sustain phase of the note (you know ADSR?). That way the volume sounds louder than it actually would be without a comp. Do trials and read more about compression from Sound On Sound articles.

There's loads of information on this in the Effects sub forum, but yes it makes a difference where in the chain you put it. You might be using the compressor to add punch, or you might be using it to even out dynamics, which are very different applications. The best position in your effects chain depends on what you're using the compressor for.

Our guitar player in the blueseyfunky band still doesn't do this... He sets what he thinks is the right amp level and woebetide if it isn't. If you say he's too quiet (it happens with this guy!) he changes his level by fiddling with pedal settings, which completely beggars up his sound!

This gives me an idea. Do you have a jigsaw? If so, and provided the baffle has sufficient space, you could enlarge the holes for the drivers by around an inch all round and use 12s.

About three years ago I booked a last minute holiday, and agreed with my bandleader that I would find a Dep. Advertised, found one, and put him in touch with the bandleader - this was still around 6 weeks before the gig was due to take place. Anyway, after a while the guy goes quiet - not answering bandleaders texts. Bandleader shoots over a final message, just to ask if he's still interested or if we should look for someone else. A few days later a text arrives from the Dep's phone, supposedly written by his wife - the essence of it was he'd been in a terrible motorcycle accident, now in a coma in hospital, 50/50 as to whether he would live or not. Cue the standard commiserations, 'family more important than gig, etc, won't bother you again', from the bandleader. When I got back from holiday I was suspicious, looked the guy up on Facebook and the whole thing had been made up - he was still gigging with his other bands and posting family stuff. I considered calling him out on his behaviour, but reasoned that for someone to do something like that hints at deeper personality/mental health issues, and it was better left alone - we are talking about a man in his 50s with adult children here.

I was talking to Jon about having my '73 Jazz refretted, I just need to get it to him, and I haven't passed that way in some time!. Someone else on here (maybe it was you) had an early 70's Jazz bass refretted by him and the work looked spectacular. Rob

Anyone managed to get a decent pitch shift +/- 1 or 2 semis on their Cores?

Boss Slicer Fx Just pulling the chat onto here to avoid derailing the pedal board thread too much! I've attached a little Mosky dual switch onto my GT 1000 Core, a while back, which then gives me an additional two i.e. a total of four configurations per patch. I'm sensing a multiple config Slicer patch needs to see the light of day on my Core!
