  2. Thanks for the info. Firefox also got a good review so I think I'll be sticking with that. I get a VPN with my Norton 360.
  3. Considering selling this beautiful bass. I bought it for a specific gig where I needed a 4 string but find myself playing a 5 string jazz 95% of the time so it doesn’t get much use. I would consider trades for short or medium scale basses, preferably with cash my way, but would also consider topping up a bit for a Wilcock or similar. It’s nice and light (8.96lbs) and has a beautiful trans teal finish. I’ve included the original photos from Fender Fever as they show the colour better than mine do. It’s in great condition for its age, there’s some checking on the finish and a couple of dings. The two most noticeable being the one to the top left on the pickguard as you look at the bass, this is a a dent in the clear coat and hasn’t gone further. The other is a small ding in the back of the neck (see my photos), it’s small and doesn’t interfere with playing but wanted to mention. I’ve put noiseless fender pickups in it (using the original cream shells) but it will also come with the original single coils and black noiseless pickup covers. Any questions, let me know. Thanks
  4. Good to hear, thanks for that! Do you put the compressor before or after the Sansamp? I've heard good things about the Ampeg too and it's not out of budget, if people think it's worth shelling out a bit more for a different pedal to the the Joyo or TC.
  5. Yeah its a very minor nick otherwise would be in impeccable condition. Bass, case and all things in the picture are included. I am back the week of the 15th of December. 15th would be the earliest day.
  6. I just take a lightweight head to a rehearsal room and use whatever cabs are there. Never had a problem.
  7. I've used Brave. Like Chrome, it's based on the Chromium browser engine, but unlike Chrome it doesn't collect data about you and has many privacy and security features that Chrome lacks. I think it's a really good browser but I've remained on Firefox because I've been using it since it was first released and it does everything I need it to do. Tor is the browser that goes with the Tor network. I'm not sure you would want to just use the browser if you weren't using the Tor network. Mullvad's main product is a VPN. The Mullvad browser was developed by the Tor project team, the difference being that Mullvad browser is intended to be used with a VPN product (probably Mullvad) instead of the Tor network.
  8. I fully understand how making claims about the origin & pedigree of an unbranded bass is dubious & potentially deceptive - but heresy? Not sure the seller deserves actually being burned at the stake!

  11. Jazz Sabbath at Dublin's Sugar Club a couple of weeks back. Was a surprisingly potent gig - went mainly for the novelty factor but was surprised by just how good they were. Rick Wakeman's son. Adam (Ozzy and Sabbath's longtime keys player) tinkling the ivories and, more importantly, Jack Tustin (I think) on upright - oh, and a drummer. Theyve got a whole, somewhat unnecessary, schtick about being a 60s jazz band that were ripped off by sabbath and are now reclaiming their legacy. In fairness, the introductions and back stories were generally very funny and they had a good rapport with the audience. Anyway, as expected, they used the riffs and melodies of songs from the first couple of sabbath albums as heads and wandered off from there - musicianship and interplay were excellent. Much as I went more for amusements sake, it was really enjoyable musically and a couple of hours flew by. The audience were, unsurprisingly, more denim and leather than zoot suit but seemed as taken with them as I was. Had a quick chat with them after and they were an affable bunch too.

  13. Good advice all - thanks for the input. Really helps as a newbie. I will most likely look into adding some tuners in the near future.

  16. Dean never seem to help themselves , they have so many types of " EDGE" , but then don't mark them on the blooming truss cover. There's an Edge "1" , 2 , Select , Premium , special models , Edge Pro , its almost as bad as saying " P" bass" hey even made a european model in the spector plant >.< . That looks like one of these to me , if its definitely Passive , it is still a Korean model .. so good Qc and build but definitely closer to entry level than one of the upper edge models , giveaways are the Die cast turners , and a basswood body , obviously yours's not in Trans red 😉
  17. Tim approached me to see if I would see if I would sell back to him the Mini P that I bought a few months ago. How could I refuse. Transaction was smooth as always. You can deal with him with total confidence.
  18. @tayste_2000 want to swap with your mono lite?

  20. Back when this thread started the Gardiner Houlgate bass wasn't known. However we still only have the previous and the current seller's word that this bass is actually by John Birch. There's no logo on the headstock as there is in the example in the 70s catalogue and no documentation. The Hyperflux pickups that were in the bass when Gardiner Houlgate were selling it have been removed which IMO seriously impacts on this instrument's worth, and the wiring installed in both versions of this bass are very conventional by John Birch standards. All that can be said for sure is that the bridge is a John Birch bridge. Everything else is heresy and speculation.

  22. I'm no expert but I play fretless and use a Sansamp BDDI v2 and an Ampeg Opticomp compressor and I couldn't live without it. The compressor just sprinkles magic dust on my tone and smooths everything out. I'm aware that the Sansamp pre-amps do add some compression but I found when I turned my compressor pedal off, my tone lost something and it was noticeable when it was turned back on again. The test for me was when I did a few gigs with another band and needed to build a small pedalboard for a fretted gig. I was going to save money and not bother with the Ampeg compressor but playing without it was considerably noticeable. As soon as I added it to my board (Sansamp, Octave and Compressor), my tone tightened up and was much better for it. I've heard good things about the TC Spectracomp pedal and they are cheap enough to get hold of so I say go for it.
  23. These were a big deal in the unplugged era of the ‘90s . Bargain ! Glwts
  24. Howdy folks! I've never really used a compression pedal and I currently have a hankering to try one. I'm very much in the 'I'm not really sure what they do/I want them to do', and my understanding of the different types of compression is close to non existent. I've read a few articles and threads here, but I'm thinking just picking up a cheap one to try is probably better so I can get an understanding by actually using one. But, before I do, I have a quick question for you........ I play with a Sansamp VT pre amp as an always on, which compresses the signal anyway, so do I 'need' a compression pedal anyway, will it make a noticeable difference? If you're thinking it's still worth picking one up, I was looking at the Joyo Scylla as an entry point, or the TC Spectracomp. I have no idea if there are different types of compressors that are suited for different styles (we play blues standards) etc but, if it's handy to know, my current signal chain goes like this...... Something with flats Tuner Sansamp VT (always on) Catalinbread SFT (for occasional grit) Amp Thanks!
  25. Just saw your message. I've put the bass down to £1300 to match the ebay price.
  26. Young people's music is so simplistic and obviously aimed at those with a short attention span. But I love Sophie Grey for some reason..?` People who call Basses 'Guitars' are clearly wrong (or chronically uneducated), as our hallowed instrument was designed as a more portable alternative to the Double Bass. Therefore it's an Electric Bass. Coldplay make me feel depressed. I just can't do it. A little bit of drive added to the sound of a Bass can be great. But distortion? Leave it to the guitardists to create that wall of nasty noise. Flatwound strings. I love the sound in isolation, but can never use them live. My sound just disappears into a deep, sonic hole in the ground. Tablature is the work of Satan himself. It's only representative of how one player played it, and often has no representation of the rhythm. Learning to read notation is so much simpler. Yes, yes, I know it's all just in my head...
