    People put tort plates on just about any Fender colour now because it's become synonymous with the nebulous concept which is "vintage". Historically, Fender did indeed ship most of its custom colour basses with mint/parchment pick guards. Bear in mind that most colours except sunburst were actually custom colours, including black. Some black Fenders were sent out with tort plates, but usually only as customer's special orders through Fender dealers. That's why finding an all original vintage P Bass or Jazz Bass in black/tort is so hard. They do exist, but they are very, very rare. But if you look at Fender's vintage reissues you would think they were commonplace.

    As new condition. This was for a planned project that never happened. I unpacked it, had a quick trial and then put it back in the box. £70 collected. If you want it posted, cost will be around a fiver.

    I approve of those choices, except for the sunburst/black combo. Mid-to-late '70's Fender is a rational prejudice as far as I am concerned. I hope you didn't pay a lot of money for it!😄 If you like I could be really annoying and regail you with what I could have bought that bass for back in the eighties (£200 tops). Myself, I can't abide red basses with tort guards. It's too much redness, like it wants to give me heartburn.

    I thought that it was a good feature that if you wanted it can be used as a guitar/bass tuner, and use it live for the amp sims and effects (including xy screen), so could feasibly be a decent enough guitar/bass multi fx for one gig and with a different band use it for samples etc. Feels like they are nearly at the point of being able to do it all.

    I certainly don't see that with the Akai (I have a Live 2) - all the jack sockets (it has quite a few) are full size and it is pretty solid (ie, you could injure yourself on it), and although it does have a 2 pin power connector, it does have an internal battery with > 4 hour life so its good for a gig. It has full size USBs and normal protected SD slots, and 5 pin midi sockets. I would have no problem using it live (and thats what I have it for), and I would note that Akai MPCs are used very routinely by touring groups. Ultimately I am not sure what you would do for it from a bass point of view, I can't see what that brings, even if I can plug my bass into it (which obviously I can), mine is there for triggering samples, sequences, even whole sections of music, which i would do either by midi for a sequence of by hand on the pads.
