  3. Agree- they were up for it and climbing up to get to the stage, whereas the lady captain was taken by surprise and didn’t look exactly willing plus unhappy after. He probably spoiled a fine moment for her
  4. this was done by tiny tone ...definitely send in the original to copy and for vinterra vi guards you need to ask for the screw holes to be added above and below the control plate because fender in their wisidom copied custom shop which has also got it wrong and missed them off from the original... squire has actually got it correct in this regard. I still need to add the screws themselves.
  5. They're of retirement age themselves so its safe to assume wish to enjoy the fruits of their labour while they can. But its sad for all, especially the workforce.
  6. Yes Linda and Dennis are family. Linda is John Skewes's daughter and she married Dennis J Drumm who was - I believe - at the time JHS Sales Director. He went on to become MD with John Skewes being chairman until he retired due to ill health. Now that he has passed away the Linda and Dennis (themselves now old enough to retire) will have likely sought a buyer but, as the right deal obviously not been found, they will "close" JHS and sell off its intellectual property (such as Vintage, Fret King, Odyssey etc....) in pieces which is perhaps more likely attractive to potential buyers. Its a double-edged situation. The current owners have the absolute right to "cash in their chips" and enjoy a - likely - very comfortable retirement. But if JHS cannot be sold (as seems to be the case) in its entirety then redundancies, with some employees working there many decades, are inevitable. The fact that the company is solvent will allow them time to seek alternative empoyment and will be paid in full whilst still employed. Its a sad situation though and not good for the UK or international music industry.
  7. OK, do you have neck pocket length? My Classic 5 is: Nut width: 44.1mm Neck depth at nut: 20.5mm 12th fret width: 60.9mm Neck depth at 12th fret: 23.8mm Heel thickness: 28.3mm Width at 21st fret: 69mm <- this might be incompatible with your SUB5 neck if it has a 22 fret neck heel. Neck pocket length: 72.5mm FWIW the Steinberger 5 string neck for comparison is: Nut width: 44.1mm Neck depth at nut: 19.3mm 12th fret width: 60.4mm Neck depth at 12th fret: 22mm Heel thickness: 26.6mm Width at 24th fret: 69.1mm Neck pocket length: 77.5mm (estimated)
  8. Yes. To get a firm price, I'll need to weigh the package and enter the measurements. I don't have that information to hand because I don't have the necks yet. I will supply an educated guess based on some assumptions about the weight of the neck but it will be subject to confirmation. Initial enquiries for UPS/DHL express shipping (3-5 days) are eyewatering and I've asked if there are cheaper 'priority' options. I don't know what the shipping companies are smoking but I will look into insured rail and sea as well but the shipping times will be significantly longer. Options for every neck are fingerboard focussed. Options beyond that, e.g. nut widths, number of strings etc. are going to be subject to MoQ, or the custom route is an option.
  9. Nut width 45mm. Width at 12th fret 61.5mm. Width at 22nd fret 69mm. Depth at 1st fret 21.8mm. Depth at 12th fret 23.6. Heel thickness c 27.8mm.
  10. Sounds great. Looks like a fun gig. Daryl

Our rehearsal place just kitted out their rooms (about 15) with full Venture stuff, replacing the old svt3. The fact that they're going with this instead of the DIY repairables says a lot. They do their homework.
  17. Hill street blues theme Eagles - One of these nights Walk on the wild side Practically any jazz song is good for fretless. Long, singing notes sound very different. I think fretless is best suited for simple lines. All extra can be cut away, and still - or because of that - sound so good.
  18. Thanks! To be honest, I fell for the stock Bronco in Tahitian Coral the first time I saw it because the color is just gorgeous and would look great with a floral pattern on the pickguard - so funky! But it quickly went from "funk machine" to "doom machine" since stoner and doom are my genres, and with the pickup that has a lot of oomph it turned out to be great for that purpose. It likes fuzzes.
  19. Rainy weekend, so this was about all the progress I was able to make on my new repair project.

  20. I’ll be off to Wemberley in August to see Blackpink on parental chaperone duties.Hmmm… can’t wait. Friday at the O2 Arena watching the Doobie Brothers was much preferable and a fabulous evening. Proper quality country rock, yacht rock and blue eyed soul. Treat to have Michael McDonald back in the fold too. Lad had a great time so there’s hope for him yet 🤞.
  21. Crikey, that’s lovely. Great work! GLWTS, someone’s going to get a real bargain.
  22. I've spent a pleasant couple of hours fitting most of the remaining hardware. During this process I discovered that (1) my M5 bolts were too short for mounting the transformers safely, and (2) I've run out of 3mm nylon locking nuts. I've placed orders for these, but in the meantime this is starting to look like it wants to be an amp:
  23. On private function nights, 90 people. We can squeeze a few in.
  24. Very high quality Hall reverb with that lovely infinite reverb effect. Boxed and complete with sticker, guide, unused stick on rubber feet. I’ve tested it and then put it away as it doesn’t have a battery option and I no longer use a powered pedalboard. Like new. Price includes UK postage.

  25. Electro-Harmonix Clone Theory Vintage Chorus Pedal NYC Made 70’s/80’s This is the one made famous in the 80’s by musicians including Peter Hook, John McGeoch and again later by Kirk Cobain. You can get sweeping chorus, subtle vibrato, to mad flange and synth like sounds from this unit. It’s a hard wired mains unit and the casing has plenty of dings and touch ups to the paint. It works perfectly and sounds great. These are quite rare now. I’ve owned two and this is the one that is all original. It’s an old pedal and like most vintage EH gear a bit noisy but it’s not a particular issue for live gigs.

I'd love to be convinced that the Venture range is everything that the Portaflex range should have been, and I may get there eventually as long as their long-term reliability proves to be good. But we need valves. I think the new Trace stuff is excellent (as the owner of a TE-1200). But there's a lot of people out there who refuse to even acknowledge that a good Trace amp could have been designed and built outside Maldon - a Trace users' group that I'm in on FB is full of posts from owners of 89s/90s Trace gear ranting that the Peavey-era stuff isn't "real" TE. It's as real as any post-Kaman Trace gear, and they all seem happy to play through those.
  27. I do agree Tom, but without the original packaging, I'd be concerned about sending this out into courier world. I also much prefer potential buyers to confirm they are happy with the item in person before they purchase. However, if a buyer would be prepared to arrange collection by their preferred courier I could source appropriate packaging.
