  2. There are, of course, always exceptions to the rule, but my own view is: Best is fitted with strings at playing tension and trussrod set for correct relief at the temperature and humidity it will be stored at Best, if the neck is not fitted to the instrument, is to loosen the trussrod to no bend pressure...for a single action rod, that means just loosen; for a two way trussrod, that means at the middle point between forward bend and backward bend. That said, there are usually methods to straighten a set curve caused by less ideal storage so, most of the time, it's not the end of the world if an unwanted curve has been set in due to those circumstances.
  3. Took me a minute to realise that the lower figure is facing towards us. And there was me thinking I knew the reason for the smile on the face of the upper figure.
  4. I keep one these permanently in the back of the car as an emergency spare. Very nice piece of kit, totally dependable.
  5. I’m looking forward to seeing them again. Must admit I was disappointed with the Clockwork Angels tour - didn’t think the album was strong enough to be played in its entirety. I’m 270 miles north of Glasgow so all gigs are a bit of a trek. I have to turn my gig trips into a short vacation to justify the travel and expense. And of course I have the best part of a year to start saving! Bring it on.
  6. Today
  7. I saw them on animal magnetism and blackout. Gigs were so cheap back then. Moving? I am sure she has to move to reach all the drums! I am sure she is going to be fine and don't really get the 'it isn't rush without Neil' - i mean it was rush before he was in it, so it can be rush afterwards. That is why I wouldn't go. I am sure it would be expensive etc, but all those things are now, especially when there are only 4 in the uk, so sound is going to be bad because it is in the O2, and geddy hasn't been able to sing rush songs for a very long time, so hardly seems worth it. They were always my favourite group for most of my life, so I will leave those memories intact!
  8. It certainly has some flame to it. It was described as AAA curly flame ambrosia maple in the listing and I have yet to have a bad piece of wood from this seller…..https://ebay.us/m/g4a779

  10. Careful, Steve, this guy knows everything there is to know about vintage Fender basses, and he’s a polyglot! Probably best to mute this thread altogether; I know I will.
  11. It looks flamed, maybe flamy-curl ? the dark stribes are areas were a fungus has its presence, here shown in a longitudinal section cut, this fungus is slowly weakening the wod, perhaps there is a short period, wen the fungus has it's entrance, in the beginning, were the wod hardens up, it can be a long period of time from fungus gets entrance, and wood is finally "chewed up" depending, on the tree, soil, surounding's , and the agresion from different specific species of fungus, this one, might be Honey fungus. the black strike in between the brown, and white wood, is a barrier made by the tree, as an attempt to keep the fungus in place, or strangulate it, eventually ofen, the fungus brakes out, and then, on and on, until Death of the Tree, will make the Tree more alive than ever, Amazing Top you have there
  12. I turned this down today when asked based on anticipated price and the fact that my mob always go for good seats, stay the night, have a good feed and a few scoops too. It gets very expensive. I conservatively calculated a £400 night out all in. £200 ticket, £200 transport, accommodation, meal out, drinks. They'll probably take the train and that'll take it up a bit. That's the price of a main dealer B Service + brake fluid change on the car. It's also going to be over a year away from buying the tickets and that seems a long time. It's also mid-March, which is when we tend to go away. I saw Rush 3 times in the past. Fabulous but not £400+ fabulous in 2027.
  13. Well after a series of trades, I picked this up today from a very strange dealership in Manchester, which takes up a whole upstairs factory floor. So it's an Overwater Perception Custom Classic made in 2006. The main differences from the Inspiration/Progress series is that the older basses have the pickups further back towards the bridge & closer together, producing quite the punch in the mids department, not unlike a rampaging horde of angry Stingrays. I particularly liked the Rosewood on Mahogany spec as it reminds me of my first Status bass which I bought in 1990. After putting on some new Elixirs and adjusting the truss rod, the only issue is that despite the string height being just about perfect from frets 1-7, the huge brass blocks on the bridge don't allow the strings to go low enough between frets 12 & 24. I'll call Overwater tomorrow and see if they have any smaller string blocks for these old bridges, and visit my tech to see if the string grooves on the E & B blocks can be widened/deepened.
  14. Hi. yes they are, but whether they're Alnico III or V I'm afraid I don't know. They came to me fitted on a bass I purchased. The Nordstrand site says the Alnico V is standard, and Alnoco IIi is optional. Hope this helps. Cheers!
  15. Well they both looked bloody lovely. Not ideal for my wallet.

Does NAM capture compression, or just EQ, gain, etc? I have a preset on my Zoom B6 I haven't been able to duplicate on anything else I've tried (tried it on a HX Stomp and a Headrush Flex Prime) - it's their model of a MXR Bass DI+ with their "red squeeze" compressor and some EQ. I was wondering if I'd be able to capture it, complete with compression, since I can't seem to dial it in by any other means and have it sound right. I made a ReValver amp clone for the Headrush that got the EQ about right, but not the compression.
  17. Oooh. Haven't heard thst for a while. Was listening to Gladys' Leap in the car bdmosning the over-gated drums and cheesy 80s keyboard tones. If they have the stems it could be remixed to be epic. My Feet are Set For Dancing should haven been a number 1.
  18. We have a winner. Scratchplate - corect. Knobs - correct (with the little white switch in front of them). Headstock - correct. My initial thought was one of the Hofner solidbodies, but controls and scratchplate didn't match.
  19. I did some eq sweeps here I also pair mine with a hx stomp - I found (after those sweeps I did) line level out on the stomp with a TRS - xlr cable into the colourbox with the wee pad on the side on gave me the best variety of clean tones - and helps protect from some RFI noise i was getting at our church
  20. This evening was Folk Night at the weekly Monday Night Jam - one of the “theme nights” that we do every so often. The themes quite loose so it meant a fairly eclectic mix of actual folk (rock) tunes, acoustic rock, country and singer-songwriter stuff. All good, fun stuff though. A few old classics like American Pie and Father and Son and newer classics like Hurt. And some less expected songs like Christopher Cross’ Sailing. And a lovely completely a capella rendition of The Parting Glass. Such a beautiful song. I had suggested a couple of songs in the 70s folk rock vein - All Around My Hat by Steeleye Span (bass and BVs) and Fairport Convention’s Crazy Man Michael - which I foolishly decided to play on acoustic and sing 😱. I also ended up bassing on a couple of others - Homeward Bound and Fire And Rain (both fave tunes so that’s a big bonus) with one of the better singers who attend. As with these things, it’s a “mixed ability group” so some renditions were better than others. Over all the standard was good - and there were a few really excellent performances. For those who know how averages work I will leave you to work out that particular maths! 🤨 I must admit that I was a bit trepidatious about Crazy Man - but it went amazingly well. My guitar playing skills are strictly bedroom standard but I was joined by another guitarist and a bass player. A bit of a contrast from the last song I sang at the Jam Night - that was God Save The Queen by the Sex Pistols! 🤣 So over all a good evening out.
  21. Totally gobsmacked they are playing Glasgow as so many large acts these days do not visit north of the border on tour. For anyone worried about the expense of staying over to see the show I would suggest booking a room at the Premier Inn within a few minutes walking distance of Glasgow Airport which is actually situated in Paisley around 8 to 10 miles away from Glasgow city centre. You can walk from the Premier Inn to Paisley Gilmour St train station in around 15 minutes on a main road and from there is a 10 minute train journey to Central station in Glasgow and then maybe a 20 minute walk along the waterfront to the OVO Hydro venue. My advice would be not to linger in Glasgow after the show but catch first train back to Paisley then enjoy a few pints at the pub adjoining the Gilmour St train station then you can walk back to your hotel right next to the airport.
  22. I should bring: My Kay collection. My Hardly Bent-ones. ...
  23. it is Indonesian. “Designed and assembled in Chicago U.S.A., crafted in Indonesia“ on the headstock. I wish I could tell you when I bought it, but for some reason I have a complete blank on it. I bought it new…I think, but can’t find any reference in my emails so might have been purchased from an actual shop.
  24. EB 'super locks' in Nickel. Used but great condition. Includes buttons, screws, washers etc £20 posted, £15 if you collect from Beautiful Bewdley (DY12)
  25. I have both of these, excellent amps. I got the TT800 first, then the D800+, and use them with a pair of subway 210s. The D800+ has a clarity and immediacy to the sound, kind of like a GK but not quite, Which the TT800 is slightly more woolly with some harmonics, and compresses nicely when pushed. I haven't really used the subway channel on the TT much, its kinda a halfway house between the two as its still got a tube front end. Both excellent amps and you'd be happy with either, just very different flavours. Mesa stuff has been quite difficult to get hold of in the UK, but I believe this is improving now. I'm currently waiting on the new Bass 800 head to arrive!
