I had a VM5 with a Nordstrand preamp and it sounded fantastic - had tone control in passive & active and was much better than the stock pre. John East stuff if pretty hard to come by at the mo, bot sure what’s going on with him but almost everything is showing as out of stock on his website and he’s not responding to emails, BassDirect dont have any in either. You can get 4 pot Nordstrand preamp in 2 and 3 band, which would be my next choice

Ta. FOH was just from the BP355. The Amp sim set to 'DI' and EQ'd specifically for the UB804. Otherwise it's all in the fingers! 😉

Out of curiosity, which bass amp/cab you use in the GP-5? What do you connect that to - DAI or amp?

None of those is a bad choice. Shïte basses are pretty much a thing of the past.

Ive been eyeing up the GP-100 for a while, but i don’t want anything that has an expression pedal making it larger. The GP-50 looks ideal. I use my GP-5 all the time now, but do sometimes wish i could make small tweaks on the fly without needing my phone.

Apparently yes. Same bit rate/quality etc, although a slight increase in dynamic range i believe.

Looks like the GP-100 without the expression pedal and, interestingly, on sale for a tad more than the GP-100!

This 👍🏼 Check out my BlazerRay thread in Build diaries - I got the body painted with a grey primer, white top coat plus lacquer (including all flatting and prep) for £100, the finish is superb. Small body shops love the challenge of something outside the norm, if you have any local to you of course! Just so happens we have loads up here - and I knew the guy who did mine - but these guys and girls are as good as any luthier job, as body shops are spraying stuff every day 😉

Been using a Chinese built Ashdown MAG 2x10 combo for about 6 years, been utterly reliable in all that time. There's only been one time it didn't sound great, but that was because it was plugged in to an extension that was also running an LED light strip. Moved it to a different wall socket, and it sounded fine. IIRC, the MAG's were built in China too. Have a look on the back. The Rootmaster range had a good reputation as well.

Ok, two days in now. I'm loving this bass. I do like a Stingray though. Could well be a 2012 CAR 2 EQ up for sale in the new year. Regarding the price of the Pino, I've moved a couple of redundant basses lately which have covered the cost of my purchase. All is good 👍

One advantage of the Squier CV Mustang is if she really gets on with it you can upgrade to the Japanese Fender version and be keeping the same type of bass. The other advantages of it are they are simply very good basses, play and sound very nice.

I have spent the evening with around 75 musicians and singers for the final rehearsal of a Christmas Concert at Morecambe Winter Gardens. Sufjan Stevens Songs For Christmas - https://www.facebook.com/sufjansongsforchristmas/ I'd say the band tonight was 35 people and the choir is 40, but there may be more tomorrow. Playing bass in this setting is quite a challenge, and there are times when I'm very exposed and need to get it right. This was our 5th rehearsal and the performance is tomorrow night. This is not what I usually do, but I've been inclined to say yes to everything recently just to see what happens! Tickets sales are healthy, and I think we'll get a good crowd. The venue is an absolute gem, a proper old theatre. It's nice to do a bit for community at Christmas I think. Rob
