The Short Scale Bass Appreciation Society!
Clarky replied to Baloney Balderdash's topic in Bass Guitars
FWIW, Jake Serek uses DR Hi-Beams as the rounds option on his short-scale basses (and you can see on some videos). When I owned a "The Grand" it came as stock with these. I'm generally not a fan of stainless steel (as opposed to nickel) but they did suit the bass -

A Golden Oldie. This version is actually a medley, combining the original Four Seasons hit with a new section called "Forgive Me, Girl". The Spinners - Working My Way Back to You

I’ve been leaning towards short scale hollow basses for the last couple of years. They carry a nice woody thump that I love. Especially with a tube preamp. Gorgeous bass. I love that.

I used the critical mass with the sax and it sounded great

Machine head advice, please

Yep, like a Delrin type of plastic -
I was exploring the possibility of getting a narrower post to fit to one of the other models, but they didn't have any of those either. Which model are you looking at?

I had an RM500 for a long time and loved it. I only went for an ABM600 because I got an offer I couldn't refuse. I loved the RM500 for its ease of use, being able to bypass the EQ when using a modelling pedal, and it just generally being small and light enough to transport easily in a laptop bag. If there was one criticism from me it would be that the onboard drive and compressor are things I'd not use much at all but I still had a few gigs going straight into the amp and using the onboard effects with no issue.

Actually, I've just found some more detail on the module, it is a Powersoft product called PowerMod II. Thermal protection shuts the unit off at 85C. It will work fine with the heatsink according to Powersoft up to an ambient temp of 45C. The temp sensor is apparently underneath the main board attached to the heatsink. No schematic available unfortunately. These were originally designed back in 2002 and have been obsolete for some years. You might find a manual online if you search PowerMod II .

A quick look through the BC market place, and this jumps out. Light weight, loud, and reasonable price

OK, I have to admit that using one of these pedals with a trumpet was just not on my radar.

What's the going rate for Stingrays nowadays?

It's not unfinished, all the SBMM basses have a satin finish on the whole neck. -
Just a thread for people to share some problems they faced in this phase of their bass playing lives - but more importantly, their solutions! It can be an overwhelming time, but to quote the Simpsons: "Did you know the Chinese use the same word for crisis as they do for opportunity?" "Crisitunity!" At the moment I'm doing the chord tones essentials course from Talking Bass, trying to develop my ear and am dragging friends along to practice rooms. I think these are all positive steps! One thing I know I need to address is using Tab Videos as a crutch to learning new tunes. I became conscious of just playing along to these - becoming almost like an advanced Guitar Hero or Rocksmith experience. Trying to remedy this by going off-book as much as possible, charting out songs (which I currently suck at) and developing my musical memory, but any tips, stories and advice from those with more experience is very welcome. P.S. I know the proper answer is probably finding a teacher, but I've tried two different teachers thus far and not really gelled with either. Hopefully third time is the charm when I have a bit more expendable income. ("When" pfft.)

Apologies, I had no idea I was doing wrong. -
It is very cool. Clouds is an immense piece of kit, and jamming the whole thing into a pedal is frankly bonkers. It’s easy to get lost… but it sounds absolutely lush. I withdrew it as there are some granular vibes in here I just couldn’t get from other pedals, but I really need to slim the herd a bit!

Various pedals (updated/final price drop)

Thanks! The designer behind AMT is an ex-Moog guy. These are built from the same DNA as the foogers, but with lots of modern upgrades etc. The delay and phaser do what the foogers did with a cherry on top. The chorus and flanger are a bit like the Cluster Flux split into two pedals, with some extras thrown in (though the flanger gains some stuff at the cost of some CF features). So far, I’m blown away. Will report back after the honeymoon period.
