  1. Past hour
  2. That's kind of what I've read on Talkbass. Still intrigued by others experiences, but apparently these are much more round than flat. Which kind of goes against the super polished tag line. Might not be a bad string, but maybe not what you're expecting when you buy them.
  3. Two coming soon, only got Saturdays booked today!
  4. I read that but still no clue what are cartridges and ROM and how it's working. A also read the manual for Series III but isn't it different from series IV?
  5. Noodle also wanted to help with the restringing,so here he is with his very own offcut:
  6. The regular super polished felt like played in groundwounds to me, but definitely had that clarity of steel. The stickiness went away pretty quickly on them, so hopefully the same for the IMAs.
  7. For what it’s worth - I used to run an amp DI live but have moved over to that small board with the BassRig and don’t think I’d go back. The BassRig box is good. The SVT is “a sound” - one that will work for most things - but it was not designed for versatility like the Capo. I’m aiming for two things 1) Consistent FOH send every time that already sounds great. 2) The ability to EQ for the stage without compromising the FOH sound. For me, “great” isn’t just an unprocessed DI. If I have to use the backline to make the sound I want then I can’t tweak it for the stage without affecting the PA mix. My current set up effectively gives me two amps - one for the desk and one for stage. At the moment the only thing I might swap the BassRig for is the Ampeg equivalent box - but just for the B15 sound.
  8. Well, they’re on, and TBH not at all what I was expecting. La Bella suggest their Superpolished strings are somewhere between a round and a flat;, but to me these sound and feel squarely in the realm of roundwound. On a quick first noodle they feel almost sticky under the fingers, and at least as rough as the D’Addario nickel rounds that they replaced. In sound, they’re super zingy. I mean, really bright. I know they’re polished stainless strings so maybe this is on me, but from the description I’d expected something like some well played nickels, but these sound just like, well, new stainless rounds. The zingiest strings I’ve used were DR Stainless High Beams and these remind me of those, both in sound and feel. So, initial impressions are mixed. I’ll take the bass with them on to rehearsal at the weekend and update then. For now, I think it’s a case of slightly confused messaging with the marketing!
  9. You knew I would, didn't you? Dave Brown's bass part from the same tune, 'Oye Como Va' from the 1970 Santana record 'Abraxas'. Probably the version most of us heard first. It's also the easiest to read and to play. https://bilbosbassbites.co.uk/oye-como-va-santana/
  10. Thanks very much. There's only 0.055" difference between by "slim" and "Clubby" Jazz neck but it's surprising how much difference that makes to teh way they feel!
  11. Sold my Pedaltrain board to Kev, fantastic asset to the forum. Thanks again.
  12. Band Practice is for the Band to Practice
  13. Bought Paddy's Aguilar Filter Twin, brilliant throughout, highly recommended.
  14. This may have been tried before but the two parts of the P pickup make a humbucker. Have you tried rotating one piece through 180 degrees?
  15. That's a uesful tip - I didn't know special options were available and I am more drawn to the Stingray body than I am the Sterling.
  16. I have to say my Stingray has a very comfiortable neck and it is very enjoyable to play - but I always end up wishing it was just that touch narrower. I'll check out Bass Gallery and Bass Bross - thanks for the pointer.
  17. I hate changing my strings and have consequently had the same ones on both my basses for about two years. I dislike the zingy bright sound new strings give and am wondering if I should just go to flatwounds? Any advice?

  19. Hi, I'll take the neck for a tenner! Got too many basses... Gotta sneak bits by the wife as parts. I'll tell her its for DIY, 😉
  20. Yes the Barefaced 12s range are very clear & flat sounding, the 10s being more vintage and having a thicker sound. The low mids on your amp are at 380, whereas to me for what your describing I’d be looking at adding anywhere from 100 to 250 so maybe add in a cheap graphic eq to see if you can achieve what you want, should give an idea of where to move forwards.
  21. Yeah not fun at all, just as you get your brain sorted as to really knowing yourself and your life bits start stopping working or falling off, bah 😠

  24. The P is a humbucker, you shouldn't be getting a big level of noise at all. Wire the pickup straight to the jack. See if there's still buzz. If it's clean, add in each pot at a time. Questions: is the new shielding connected to ground? Do you have dimmer switch lighting? Have the terminals of the pickups had the solder touched up?
