The intent (at least my intent) was to go beyond the Bass 400+ with changes and feature set that make more sense to today’s players. I asked hundreds of players what they would like to see different on a reimagining, what features are now considered important or essential. The variable HPF was at the absolute top of the list, but so was the pre-post switchable DI, aux input, headphone output, and somewhat surprisingly the USB power port. Size and weight were also a common wishlist item. Some of you here participated in that TalkBass thread and poll, there was a remarkable degree of agreement too.

How was your open mic or jam night last night?
tauzero replied to tauzero's topic in General Discussion
Busy night for me - last time, a guitarist I've played with before at a different open mic turned up with a drummer friend who hadn't played live for years and we did about half a dozen songs. The drummer turned up again this evening and sat in with one of the regulars while I played bass. I'd made notes, having been slightly forewarned, but everything was two semitones down, fortunately not complicated songs (Stick season, Shotgun, Somewhere under the sun). Then played with another regular who always does the same three songs (a blues in E, Folsom Prison blues, Knocking on heaven's door), and then got recruited by another duo of drums and guitar/vox to play Route 66, Amarillo (hadn't played that for about 20 years), and Ventura Highway (new one on me). And a guitarist I've played with a few times before asked me to have a look at a couple of songs for some future occasion. -

Aah, not Miranda Hart? -
And despite repeated pestering, there's no sign that it ever will (also doesn't work with the MS-plus series). There is a patch manager available that works through a browser at https://sym.bios.is/

Electro Harmonix 24v Bass MicroSynth - the Big Box!
Gareth Hughes posted a topic in Effects For Sale
Up for sale - an Electro Harmonix 24v Bass MicroSynth. Full of analog goodness. Not just good - good for you!! If you're looking at this, you know what it does. Definitely leagues better sounding, and feeling, than the smaller 9V versions. Hard to put a price on this - some insane £900+ prices on eBay. Quite a few in the £600-800 range. I think £325 plus postage is more sensible.-

If the port is 11.15mm long, surely that means it will be shorter than the thickness of the cab (assuming 12mm ply).
-
Here you go two of the fane's in a 40l cab will do this with a fully rated amp driving 450W into the cab. That's a couple of db louder than most 12's. What it will need is a decent sized port as the amount of air that port will be moving at full power will be considerable. I've looked at using a 110mm soil pipe inside diameter 108mm 11.15mm longas a decent compromise. I'd be rear mounting the port so as not to weaken the front baffle too much.

If I didn't do it, I'd have missed out on a lot of stuff I grew to appreciate and ended up learning from. Not everything though, some of it's just rubbish. -

There is this video on YouTube by Six String Labs that does a deep dive on the comparisons different modelers and the accuracy of the pocket go is about 98% to the OG tone that it was modeled after

I just got one a month ago and I love it! It has 21 presets but I only use about 4 of them. I have an Ampeg SVT and B15 presets that sound very good. There are no distortion/over drive effects per say but I have a Mesa Boogie 400 preset that I turn that fan up on and it sounds so tight and gnarly. The only thing I don’t like about it is the sound level and over level of the pedal that you have to mess with to get it to the right levels. Overall for $50 (got it on sale) it’s a steal.

I read on some of the Neural DSP forums that you have to delete and reload the app for the new V2 captures to appear

Wow. That is good. Literally the same thing happened with me a few years ago - but a Mono double bass gig bag (over £200). I got a brief reply from Marcus at Bass Direct telling me to take it up with Westside Distribution. Wonder what was different.

My OM night was brilliant. i had been chatting to two singers (sisters) who are both bass curious. Neither had sung with a band before, always tapes. So we made it happen. Then we did their mum as well. Yes, she wanted a band-backing experience too. She did Breakfast at Tiffany’s with someone playing double bass very well. I got called up to play The Chain all the way through, then one sister joined in with the hostess, a professional singer, for Dreams (me on bass) and the other sister with hostess for sweet home Alabama (me on bass predictably) . One clearly has great taste as she admired my sire v7/5 in metallic CAR
