  2. Jees, that's a great board @ordep
  3. It's a difficult one... The new standards with the ceramic pickups made by the Cort factory (is that correct?) have received very good reviews. I would say the new Fender standard would just edge it. The cachet of the Fender brand definitely helps, too. Maybe a well set up Squier 40th Anniversary Jazz would just pip the scales in Squier's favour. I sourced one of these for a pupil in recent months and it was an excellent instrument. There's definitely not a lot between them. I'd say it's down to the individual player to play both and decide which they like the sound of best.
  4. I think it depends on both sound and the feel of the bass. Some just don`t like actives so that may be a factor. I`ve played (and owned) Squiers that when set up properly play like a dream. The sensible option of course is to simply play both on a visit to a music shop and buy the one that gave the most enjoyment when playing. Years ago I bought a Squier VM 77 Jazz bass, one on a long list of basses I really shouldn`t have sold as it was one of the best Jazzes I`ve ever played.
  5. I didn't even realise that the case doubled as a stand-alone charger until I read it on here. I just thought it was a convenient way of transporting the transmitter and receiver and a handy way of charging both from a single cable.
  6. "Saving a few quid at the bar" In my opinion all bars and restaurants should comp food and certain drinks for the band. It's just the right thing to do as long as you don't have band members that would abuse it. Daryl
  7. I don't think there is any song my current band do where I don't have some chorus on the bass. However because I'm using a Helix Floor with several Snapshots for each song, I'm able to vary the type and intensity of the chorus from so subtle you can barely tell it's there to full-on jet flange depending on what is needed in different parts of the song.
  8. And done: A calm folky instrumental, that seems fitting for the picture and location of it: Solo bass, single track, 1st take, instrumental, played on my 28.6" scale 5 string Ibanez GSRM20B Mikro Bass, and tuned in G# standard tuning (as in the upper 4 strings of a 6 string bass in regular B standard tuning, plus a high E), recorded through my "amp-less" setup directly into my Zoom H4n handheld recorder, and only edited through a simple Wav editor.
  9. Something has popped up that I would like to get, so I have dropped the price to £1000 posted, with gig bag. Grab a beautiful bass for a great piece. Cheers ☺️
  10. I see a lot of guys using 'On Song' for live setlists. No experience here but worth a look!
  11. Or you can use this already made template: https://www.crimsonguitars.com/products/humbucker-0-5-12-7mm Or ask them what they have for this job...
  12. Ouch, that’s a really dumb thing to do. I think I’d severe connections with people who pulled that stunt. Pub landlords talk to each other. A bad reputation is hard to shake off.
  13. Scary Monsters and Nice Sprites - Skrillex
  14. For this kind of work, as it simply is two rectangles, I use this jig, but they have become rather expensive... https://www.amazon.co.uk/Trend-Varijig-System-Adjustable-Frame/dp/B001UQ5PDK/
  15. yes is versatile.
  16. Weight is 4.2kg and combo is really nice, is really enjoyable with this thini or slim Neck.
  17. Alto Truesonic TS110A active PA speaker - built-in power stage, so no need for a separate amplifier! Just plug in your mixer, decks, or even run your mics in directly. 10" speaker with HF tweeter. 600W peak / 300W RMS. Lightweight Class D power stage for portability; wedge-shaped cabinet means this can be used as a PA speaker or angled floor monitor. Collection preferred; if you're not far from Kingston-upon-Thames, I may be able to drop it off for you.

  18. I don’t think so as the the CS logo on the back of the headstock is untouched
  19. Thank you! Breaks my heart to sell it, but needs must
  20. We had a great venue we played about 3 times a year and we'd always drag a good few with us to pack out the place. Always a buoyant, appreciative crowd there with no hint of trouble. Stopped getting asked back when the landlord noticed that, one time, both the drummer and vocalist had smuggled in their own supply of beer and, in the singer's case, his wife's stockpile, too. Three gigs gone tits up, all in aid of saving a few quid at the bar. Terrific. Talk about shooting yourself in the foot. Me and the guitarist were not happy bunnies.
  21. Rehearsal last night at Pirate in Dalston. Air con was faulty which meant room got up to about 26 degrees, but that's not a huge issue. We tried out a new drummer and she's okay. Lacking in confidence and experience and very chatty, but very very interesting and maybe we can get somehwere. When it locked in there was definitely a bit of power behind the sound. Mostly original songs but a couple of covers. Bit of a boo-boo for the first song. The room had a Blackstar 250w 15" combo and I THOUGHT I'd set all the controls to 12 o clock or off (EQ centred, distortion, compression deactivated etc) but the sound was awful. I was running the Dingwall into it via a Tech 21 VT and had the combo on flat all the way gain and master out but still sounded weak and .... oh. I'd accidentally turned the bass all the way down! The second song was very different! Great! Towards the end I was putting a bit more dirt in for a nasty tune we were working on and OH MY GOD the sound of that bass on the 5th string with the humbucker-type setting and a pick put shivers up my spine then ... the Blackstar just died. No sound. Dead. I think something inside overheated because it came back on after 5 minutes but then shut down again. By that point we were cooked and tired so went off to the pub for a much-needed beer. It was a shame though as I was really getting into the sound!
  22. Imagine you're after a new Jazz bass and you have about £500 to spend. Do you opt for the £489 Squier CV Active 70s - active pickups, nice block inlays, lovely turquoise or mocha colour options; or do you shell out a little more on the £549 Fender Standard - simple classic Jazz spec and colours (blue/black/burst/white), but it has "Fender" on the headstock? Are you likely to feel and hear much of a difference between them (assuming both are set-up well and if you want to get real picky you can fit the same strings)? I guess the active electronics of the Squier will give you more options for sound output, but is it "better"? Or does the enhanced quality of the Fender actually show through? Personally, I'd go for the Squier CV 60s in daphne blue, but that's beside the point.
  23. What @AndyTravis said!
