My point is if you want a Bongo then one of these basses will only satisfy your craving for something that looks like a Bongo. If you want an inexpensive bass then a Sire offers much better value for money than one of these. They get much closer to their inspiration than these Sterlings do to a proper Bongo.

I'm thinking I shall just bring the HB with the Roland V-bass system fitted, and an amp. The Brawleys are really nice to play, and unusual, but I think more people will be interested in the V-bass.

Yes, all of the original SII shaped models were called 'S2-Classic' from the late 90's onwards.

I certainly wouldn't bring 15 basses (well, I only have 12 or so), I just bring 2 or 3 that are different from usual so people can see. I mean people are too busy eating anyway

Ampeg SCR-DI would be my suggestion. Blendable gain which does from touch of break up to Lemmy really nicely, plus the Ampeg sound/eq.

Hardly, if you want a bongo you don't really want a sire. I mean, I wanted a bongo and wouldn't go near a sire, but if you hang round enough you get what you want at a reasonable price. I presume eventually they will get to a street price of less.

The blue certainly isn't selling it, and never liked the unfinished part behind the neck under the strings.

Given the new ones have climbed to up to £3k plus, many people are now asking £1,500 odd even for their mid 00's basses. Mad, but they are beginning to sell for that so it's getting harder to get anything closer to the £1k mark now. Sires are cool, but are a different prospect really as they are inspired by, rather than the same shape etc. I really fancied one of the Z series models, but the QC issues i've seen put me off a tad. I think the flurry of interest around this is its a Bongo shape, be that a good or bad thing, and there's nothing else readily available remotely like it.

Thanks! I think mine is a Classic too, no?

I've got a more recent 2020 model S2-Classic up for sale at the moment. Because there aren't going to be any more graphite Status basses, you can regularly see them going for up to £3500 retail at the moment. A trade in would give you around £2400-£2600 at a dealer like BassBros or Bass Direct.

Are used prices going up? I haven't bought a used bass in a very long time so I haven't really been following it. That's interesting to know. I still think a Sire makes much more sense. Cheap and cheerful and shockingly good for the money. I bought a one as a stopgap and I have been flawed by how close it sounds and plays to a pro-level expensive bass. I wouldn't necessarily want to take a Sire on a world tour but if I was on a budget it's a no-brainer.

Any suggestions for a pre amp pedal to run in front of my MarkBass LM IV to give me mild drive, warm tones, Ampeg vibe ? Must be a pre amp pedal with DI as it will also serve as an amp backup etc if needed
