  2. Have I missed something in the text? How much you asking? I'm not far away - give me a tempting £
  3. Look at the frequency response chart here, which is a typical high quality bass driver. Note the midrange that peaks at 2.5kHz. https://eminence.com/products/kappalite_3012ho#frequency-response
  4. Hello, Very cool little Boss modeller for sale. Sounds great but I'm just not a modelling guy, I'm admitting defeat---I just don't enjoy the process, as good as the results can be. Boxed, also comes with additional Bright Onion switch. £350 delivered please. Would consider trades for bass gear - amps, basses (J flavoured), whatever... In good condition, a few scratches on the bottom as pictured. Album with lots of photos here: https://imgur.com/a/9pniK6g

  6. Stop it, I'm skint!! Line6 has cable tone ... you can choose 6m or 12m! I can't hear any difference though. I don't even know what cable tone is supposed to sound like eek. I'm interested how the latency feels in a gig situation. NUX is a fraction more than the line6 - which is only ever a problem for me when I really go walkabout. Which i do occasionally. I still want one for when the Line 6 craps out which it has to eventually... its done hundreds of hours.
  7. Would consider pedal/ amp trades also Thanks Dave

  9. Well that's interesting. I've discovered that, when HT is applied, my nice negative bias voltage all but disappears, leaving the output valves to go full-on Fukushima. Which bit of this circuit is not a tried-and-tested design, but my own concoction? Yep, the bias supply. I consulted the writings of good old Merlin Blencowe, and discovered that my choice of component values may have left the output valves with too high a grid leak resistance. Time to re-design the circuit!
  10. I think of that tone being a pretty much flat Precision pickup, maybe some form of slight boost around 800 - 1000.
  11. You might want to mention scale-length? Just sayin'. GLWTS
  12. A tricky question. Your idea of what constitutes a 'woody' sound might be totally different to that of someone else. Might be an idea to drop a link in here to give folks an idea of the type of sound you're thinking of? A lot of the 'sound' of an electric bass comes from pickup type and where they are positioned on the instrument. Woods used in the construction can play a significant part in what the bass sounds like with or without amplification. String choice is another strong contender for tone alteration, not to mention whether you play using finger-style or plectrum/pick, or whatever. Even where you choose to pluck/strike the sting can make a huge difference to the sound produced. You asked about specific frequencies to bring out the 'woody' tone in your post. Assuming that you're using an amplifier and speaker set-up, I'd suggest that a 15"or even an 18" speaker might help you get nearer to what I have in my head for 'woody' tone - I have to revisit what I wrote above and underline, that your idea of the sound might be different from mine (or anyone else's). Further to amp settings, I imagine that lots of treble won't be what you're chasing and too much bass boost could lead to a muffled rumbling. Because of this, I'd recommend that you use an amp, if yours doesn't have this, where you can boost/cut low-mids a little. If you can get together with another BC member in your area, they might have an amp or two you could play through, to see if they can help you nail that sound. You don't say how long you have been playing, so forgive me if comments above seem basic. Maybe you're a veteran of the low-end with a PhD in Acoustics? No doubt, some here will agree with my comments and others will not. The only way to find the sound you're chasing in your head, is to try a variety of amps, speakers, equalisers, etc. Look on it all as an adventure and enjoy the journey. Very best wishes in your quest.
  13. Just a thought, but before you worry about eq, are you sure you have the gain set right, and that all of your Anagram patches are putting out the same level?
  14. Afternoon, Can anyone offer some guidance please? I have an Ampeg SGT DI, about 3 yrs old and out of warranty. Used maybe 20 times. It was working fine until it stopped the other night at a rehearsal. All lights still work, the Aux in still works ok but i can't get any sound from the DI out (what I normally use) or the headphones out. I've tried a factory reset and checked that the software is up to date. If I tap my finger on the end of a lead plugged into the Input jack i can get the compression light to light up faintly but no where near as bright as it used to. Any ideas? I don't want to pay loads to have someone tell me it's going to cost loads to fix and I also don't want to just chuck it it the bin either so would prefer to gift it on to someone for spares/parts. Many thanks in advance, Rory

  16. This is my Ibanez SR2600 Cerulean Blue Burst, which I became interested in after seeing Dave Pegg of Fairport Convention using the 5 string version. They are beautifully made and well finished with massive tonal options and what a colour finish........... To protect such an instrument I opted for the Warwick all leather soft case.

  19. There are no daft questions, when it comes to researching basses. Basschat is always willing to help other members spend their money, it stops us spending ours .
  20. Welcome sir. In the Border country perchance?

  22. Was that the outboard preamp Chris? Buying an outboard Sadowsky preamp would makes good sense for a lot of reasons. That bit of kit makes most basses sound better, cheap and not so cheap, so it may well stay useful if someone upgrades to a more expensive instrument. Even if the Sadowsky preamp doesn't make your cheaper bass sound good enough to satisfy, you can keep it for the next bass. Sooner or later it will be useful and money well-spent.
  23. Exploring the world of bass playing, in the distant past played drums and a little rhythm guitar. Currently researching different basses and will check out information on this site. Be prepared for some daft questions. Thanks for having me. Reiver
