Well… I love 51’/tele basses. Had a very nice custom shop “sting” and have had a MIJ reissue at some point. Saw this on a facebook page and just went for it. Thanks to @walshyfor doing the middleman bit. So spec is Fender neck - stripped, nitro refin guitarbuild ash body, nitro BSB fralin pickup Gotoh reverse machineheads bakelite pickguard bakelite saddles etc some posh pots and capacitors etc. Fender covers all slot-head screws as per early 51’s needs some tweaks to suit, but it’s ace. slightly heavy at 10.5lbs…but it’s a resonant chunk.

Does anyone happen to know which IEMs work best for metal?

If I were going into a project like this, I would want to make sure it was a success, and therefore I would not want to cut any corners, otherwise it might end up a waste of money. For me, there are two people who come to mind, Dan Whitelock-Jones in Liverpool, and Martin Garton in Edenfield. Both could build you what you want and it be a very high quality amp. The Ceriatone amps are actually very good (I've had 5 of them), and you could always order the kit without transformers and source better ones elsewhere. So that's an option, but I doubt either DWJ or Martin would build it for you. Nick at Ceriatone would build it though, and ship it without the transformers which you could get added here. Not going to join the debate other than to say I feel we've passed that point and are already in free fall. It's just too damn exciting to computer people and to much fun for punters.

Soundchecks are more important for singers than anyone else. It's been a few years since I was regularly doing sound, but for me sound check was for the band and especially the singers to get their stage levels right as this was not something I could do for them. I would only get the FOH approximate because as soon as the punters came in the FOH mix changed, but I could adapt pretty quickly during the first couple songs. Thus said, I did quite like to set my overall EQ using a squeak test (ideally with grey noise) to get some more headroom, but almost never had time to do it properly (the quick version was getting someone to cup their hand over a mic as I cranked the gain)! There was a Behringer unit that used to try to do it automatically but it never seemed to work so well. But for me ALWAYS a quick soundcheck after the linecheck.

just got this new compressor from Sonicake, supposedly a 1176 in a 1590a box. just had a quick test and its on the subtle side, but good enough for most (of my own) application. no low end loss even with the Blend completely off, LED color changes with the amount of compression applied (a bit slow to react tho) Overall it will not replace my Cali76TXPL, but will keep this one for my cheap 1590a setup. IMO best bass compressor below £40 new.
