Brilliant. Dave

I bought a lot of guitars and basses in 2025 and none six weeks into this year — so I'm still in. The bass I had on commission at the gallery has sold so I'm actually one down, and I'm planning to sell a few more. I have used my share of a recent gig's money to place an order for three mustang bass mutes for my JMJs. These are scheduled to arrive from the US in early March. I'm not counting these mutes as a breach of the abstinence rules as Leo Fender designed the mustang bass bridge to have a mute, however Fender don't fit or even make them anymore, so I am just facilitating completion of the basses to bring them into correct 1966 specs.

Viewing figures suggest otherwise - as does the amount of Eurovision parties that happen around the country. -

No. I can't see this particular choice of UK song contest entrant having a seismic impact on world affairs Chris. Does anyone really care about Eurovision anyway...? It's a very, very outdated and tired idea IMHO. -

Or any instrument. I’ll always recommend Yammy if a beginner asks for suggestions.

I've set one up, played it a bit and it was very good. I don’t want to get into comparisons with the Japan basses but the 235 I fettled was good and to be honest, anyone could have a career on it and be happy. I used to own a BB415, which is kind of the same but a generation earlier and that was my #2 bass for ages. Again, it was set up, fettled and made to play as well as any of my spendy basses. You can’t really go wrong with a well set up Yam at any price point. Even an expensive one is going to need some TLC “out of the box”.

I have to sing bv's in various bands but, due to a major vocal surgery about 10 years ago, my voice is weaker than it used to be and I often find myself just a little bit flat on certain notes. Would subtle use of the pitch correction in the TC Helicon Mic Mechanic 2 help me sound better?

The MXR Bass Auto Q is an auto-wah / envelope filter based on the sound of the Cry Baby pedal, this one designed specifically for bass guitar. The Bass Auto Q features adjustable sensitivity and blendable LFO signal. Condition is decent, the case has some chipped paint (around the base plate), just dusty otherwise. Everything works as it should. All it's original knobs present and correct. Seen these listed on ebay for a fair bit more than this and in roughly this condition. this is the broken battery clip, for some reason the battery hatch doesn't stay shut by itself either hence the velcro fix by a previous owner from these parts, does the job Pedal is in Hope Valley (S33 6SB) if you're passing for local collection or I can do local delivery, also happy to do UK postage.

Another cool pedal I've had sat around a while, sounds great, I just don't use dirt in my current setup so while it sounds really good it's just sat in a cupboard and might as well be getting used by someone. Condition is excellent / looks new to me. Here's someone doing a demo of one: Pedal is in Hope Valley (S33 6SB) if you're passing for collection or I can do local delivery, also happy to do UK poastage.

Great sounding preamp/di, I'm having a clear out of things I don't use enough to warrant keeping and I already have a clean preamp/di that does the job for me as well as a couple of colourful sounding pre/di pedals so I really don't need this sat around as it may as well be with someone who'll be using it. It does that lovely Eden clean crisp sound, punchy and lovely. Comes with a power supply (don't think it's the original one) but I used with my voodoo lab power supply as that does 15v. Condition is very very good. Pedal is in Hope Valley (S33 6SB) if you're passing for collection or I can deliver locally, happy to post within UK.

Virtually new Fender Bassman 100 cover from Roqsolid, i got it to use while my flightcase was being manufactured so was only used briefly. Its a little dusty but will wipe. They're about £65 new + shipping Cover is in Hope Valley, happy to post within UK, probably gonna cost a tenner just for how small it doesn't fold up.

Yesterday was one of those weird life 'milestones'. It was my 66th birthday, which is not a number you'd in the past have said was 'significant'. That's because of government changes to how pensions work. For the majority of my working life my state pension age was 65, but that changed and I'm one of the few that managed to achieve it at 66, unlike my brother who is two years younger than me and his is not until he's 67. So yes, I am officially an OAP now and to celebrate I went to the library and applied for my bus pass 🙂. That was the only exciting thing that happened yesterday. Birthday cards received: one, from a neighbour. Presents received: one, from same neighbour. Getting old is not much fun. Just as well I try to keep busy with various things.

Could be an interesting exercise in using Eurovision to raise an interesting artist's profile, rather than actually trying to win the thing. Hope the guy does well off the back of it. -
