I don't have a No.1 per se, they're all favorites for different reasons. With the "drive-time Rock covers" band, I use a pair of Spectors (a Euro 4 and a Euro LX 4) that have the same pickups, same pre-amps, same set-up spec, same Eb standard tuning and same strings. It's run/standby redundancy. They're tools, albeit very pretty ones, to do a job. With the "obscure covers" band, I use a Spector Euro 5 LX with a BBP35 as backup, although I would like to find a Euro 5 or NS5CR. All four are absolute peaches but they get used out in the real world. I have basses that don't go out at the moment but that's mainly because they aren't what I use in these bands. They've all been gigged except the one Spector and that's just because it's new and I haven't taken it to jam night yet.

There are tales on BC and Talkbass of lutheirs who fail catastrophically, and reading some of the tales I can't escape the feeling that many of them failed because they didn't have a good understanding of how things might look in two years time if they proceed on their present trajectory, for example, promised timelines, post-sale care etc. Working methods/T7Cs that work fine when you have 10 orders can fail disastrously when you have 15 Either way, good luck @Silky999

Morning all. Our band is all iems. We go straight into our own mixer and do our own sound. However, we are now lining up a tour where we will be going through the venues sound guy and pa. Is there any way you all use where we can keep our iems and mixes etc but send a separate feed for each instrument to the sound guy/foh. Like an xlr splitter etc? Does anyone have any experience with these or similar?

Erica Synths Pico System III Eurorack Version This is a fantastic two oscillator modular system with sequencer, delay and mixer. You can also use ‘preset’ cards to access sounds instantly. It comes with 5 pre patched cards and 5 to create your own sounds. One I’ve already patched to make a simple test preset for the sequencer which can easily be desoldered and reset. The unit is boxed and comes with manual, splitter, cards, overlay ‘patches’ and blank cards. It is in excellent condition and includes the ribbon lead to connect to your eurorack. The patch leads in the first photograph are not included. Note that this is the eurorack version and not the standalone version. A great modular synth in excellent condition. Price includes UK postage.

Yamaha DXR 8 Active Speaker This unit has been used as a keyboard monitor and comes with brand new Yamaha outdoor semi waterproof cover and mains lead. It is in good condition although it has lost its control knob caps. Everything works as it ought to. It is in very good cosmetic condition It’s very powerful for an 8” active cab. Great little multi purpose speaker. The original woofer has been replaced with a recommended Fane equivalent. Power Output: Dynamic: 1100W (LF: 950W HF: 150W) / Continuous: 700W (LF: 600W HF: 100W) Frequency Range: 57Hz - 20kHz Inputs: XLR-3-31 x1 , INPUT2: Phone x2, INPUT3: RCA PIN x 2, THRU: XLR3-32 x 1 (Parallel with INPUT 1 ), LINK OUT: XLR x 1 Pole Mounts: 2 options - 1 straight and 1 angular socket for mounting at downward angles Dimensions: 280mm (11") x 458mm (18") x 280mm (11") Weight: 13.5kg (29.8lbs) Pickup preferred but I can post at buyer’s cost. It is very well built and the packed weight will reflect this so I envisage it will be around £20 to post it. UK only. Priced to reflect the replacement driver and lack of control caps.

Bass Direct started following Dingwall Super P Far East model?

I really liked that tone knob, we have been in talks with Dingwall about maybe getting those to sell separately

I bought this beautiful instrument last year for a project that has managed just two gigs in 18 months. I recently joined a new band and now need a different coloured bass. Before I bought it, I tried out the Squier and US versions, and this one has by far the most playable, modern-feeling neck. It weighs 3.8kg / 8.4lb. It’s a joy to play, and the pickup is thunderous. I’ve swapped in the Retrovibe 4-brass-saddle dual-entry bridge for easier intonation (the original will be included). There’s a small dink by the bridge (pictured). Otherwise, there are no marks. It’s got new Newtone Platinum strings, and comes with a Fender gigbag. However. While it’s perfectly playable with a low action, the truss rod won’t tighten any further. So it’s fine with low tension strings, but would struggle with thicker gauges. That’s why I’m selling so cheap.

Intuitively yes, but not if the seller is a business

First I'd like to thank those above for their replies so far. It looks like I'll have a go at the Basschat 1x10, or two of them. One with horn and one not. For those interested, this is the state of the cabinet I bought, which I'll look to pass on once the speakers are out.

Chienmortbb started following Amp to cab cable question
-
I hope this does not turn into a rant, but... here goes: In general, the main difference between mains cable and speaker cable is that the speaker cable is more flexible and generally has more strands. The good brands are also virtually oxygen free. You will not really notice the difference sound wise, just the lack of flexibility. So why use speaker cable? It's more flexible, less power is absorbed in the cable, and it is generally no more expensive than cut cable. Many sites sell Van Damme Studio (blue). This is a rigid (in comparison to tour grade cable), cable designed for Studio Installations where they do not move. They do a tour grade speaker cable, but it seems to be quite rare. I use Sommer Meridien, for my speaker cables it has even more cores than the others (120+ Vs 80+) on the market and coils beautifully. The best speakers cables won't make you play like a pro, but they are designed for the job. The same is true of many instrument cables, although there the benefits can be huge and the reliability of cheaper cables is suspect. As I make cables for people, I often get sent, or given, faulty cables. It may sound strange, but I learn a lot from them. The first thing is that the name brands often don't make good cables. It is often style over substance, with a posh tweed covered cable attached to a poor riveted plug moulded inside a rubberised or PVC boot. Similarly, speaker cables with Speakons can only be recommended if the speakon is from a reputable manufacturer. Neutrik, of course, but REAN (Neutrik subsidiary), Cliff and Amphenol all make good speakons to the relevant standards. A £15 cable eBay/Amazon will not usually have "legal" speakons. One look at the cost, even in bulk, of a decent speakon is close to £5. A decent 2.5mm cable would probably be £4/metre. So there is little left for profit and postage on a £15 cable. Anyone that has bought cables from me will know I am happy to chat about cables, I have made speaker cables instrument cables and wireless cables (to connect instruments to wireless backpacks) as well as unusual cables, so I now have years of experience. Despite SWMBO* moaning about the amount of stock, I am almost as happy to lose a sale rather than sell something that is either wrong, or where a viable version is available from elsewhere. *She who must be obeyed does not moan and has the patience of a saint really.

Oh god - it has taken me the best part of 7 years to get that song dumped from the set list! Even then it keeps coming back like a zombie in a bad B movie! -
AinsleyWalker started following Reverb Vs Delay
-
Oldish comment but this is interesting, as Janek has also said the opposite in a recent board build haha - how he used to use delay for solos etc but switched to reverb as he doesn't have to get the tempo right etc. He has both reverb and delay on his board at the moment

Electricity and water, read the above? If you're going ahead and rain's a possibility, get an expert in to check the circuits and supply, check your insurance (esp public liability), and veer on the side of caution. BTW I did call off one of the gigs referred to in the original post, which was a birthday party for a friend which ended up as to all intents an acoustic singalong under a gazebo in torrential rain

Southsea Community Cinema and Arts Centre - avoid!!!
Beedster replied to Steve Browning's topic in General Discussion
We had a similar thing happen with what looks like a similar type of operation Steve (large community arts centre). They did it in a slightly different way, that is every person we spoke to directed us to someone else. When we found the person responsible for payment they tried the 'Your quote wasn't in the correct form' thing. IIRC our singer just persisted, went to everyone about it (local council etc), and after a couple of months we got paid. What really annoyed us was the the gig was rammed, with the businesses in the space itself (food, bars, retail) telling us they'd never had such a large crowd in, in fact one of them ran out of food, but the people who run the place are just creating bad PR for those businesses by ensuring that bands like our will never play there again 😡 Hope you get it sorted Steve -
Ah you described it exactly what I’m missing. Do I just tell my tech to wire the bridge pickup in parallel? Planning to convert it to vol vol tone config as well just so I can mix the pickups like I always do on my PJs.
