  1. Past hour
  2. I loved the tone on all along the watchtower in rattle and hum. I didn’t know it was a p bass, it just sounded heavy and preponderous at the beginning and then I listened to how it sounded under the chords, driving it all along.
  3. Heyyyyy Jeff, you’ve got me KS hooked! Many thanks & hope you’re well, (a bass guru & absolute top man with a fabulous collection)
  4. I stumbled on this 'Niels-Henning Ørsted Pedersen' solo Double Bass concert earlier. It's quite astonishing really (IMO, of course). The performance tracks are laid out in chapters. All in all, about 75 minutes long:
  5. Yep, JJ Burnel and Bruce Foxton were big influences on me sound wise.
  6. I'm very interested, but my ABZ would be the only thing that can pay for it currently - so probably won't. I am moderately confident the preproduction one at NAMM will be at the UK Guitar show at the end of Feb though. GuitarGuitar said May delivery, but I have little faith in this. I would guess July.
  7. After the immensely sad passing of sly Dunbar Ive been going through my sly and Robbie videos, this is one of my favourites and there’s some good shots of sly in action, he will be greatly missed
  8. Hi Do you still have the enhanced OD? Cheers, Ed
  9. Before I even developed an interest in Bass, I loved JJ Burnel‘s sound. He wasn’t particularly an influence, I just loved that sound!
  10. Mick Karn - Gentlemen Take Polaroids Tessa Pollitt - Cut Jah Wobble - Metal Box
  11. Being London-based I was in Yamaha Music on Wardour Street two Sundays back and tried...a TRBX605FM. It did nothing for me,felt ever so flimsily built. I would pick either of the Japanese TRB5 (MK1 vs MK2) models however. They look and feel different but I like them equally. In fact visually the slap-cut contour on the MK1 isn't to my taste so maybe not so equal after all...
  12. What tone inspired you to play bass? I mean not necessarily a particular player or band but a specific album or track even. Mine was Sade’s Stronger than Pride album. Paul Denman’s tone in Keep Lookind, I thought to myself, wow I’ve got to get me some of that
  13. I have a 1506ms, best wishes with your sale!!! and thank you for the tips: Glowtec Lumo fret stickers ordered, and spring/red clip now removed from the jack socket - finally 🙂
  14. I'm happy with my Lekato WS-90 and the M-Vave clone of it. Thinking of picking up another WS-50 as my old one has micro USB charging which became a little temperamental, and they've gone to USB-C.
  15. I've been using the NUX C-5RC for the past year and I would recommend them Previously I used the Boss Wl20 for about 5 years and they never let me down.
  16. I understand your curiosity ! but I'd rather not do it myself since the ramp seems to be securely attached to the body. I mean I don't think there's any problem removing it but perhaps during a routine visit to a luthier ? Thanks for your comment!
  17. Profile is quite shallow nut width just over 41mm
  18. The traditional answer is a good bar towel, but not sure they're really a thing any more
  19. The closest I've got to any TRB is a TRBX604 which I made a special trip to Yamaha's HQ in Soho to buy/collect. Sadly I couldn't get on with it and sold it on about 9 months later, which is a pity because I'm a big fan of Yamaha gear (not just basses, though I have several of these), have loads, and don't like parting with them. To be honest I wouldn't mind trying one of the older 90/2000's models if I can find one (no chance in Devon or Cornwall) 😂
  20. I’ve just got the new XVIVE. A58 5.8ghz wireless and it’s very good I’ve owned Shure wireless systems, Boss, Live 6 and low cost Lekato but the XVIVE is very good and works well Not crazy money but a decent mid priced quality bit of kit
  21. Today
  22. The problem is that people are weak and fail. If we didn't use anything because of moral concerns about the (human) creator we would have to stop using most technology, tools, art, music etc. As such there is a careful balance to be gained between sensitivity and practicality. I can see avoiding something if you know of a specific concern, but at the same time if you dig deep enough into anything I'm sure one will find moral reasons not to use it (and knowing what evidence can be trusted is also difficult)... so the upshot is that it is complicated, and difficult to be fully informed about anything. As such I would rather judge the motive of the user of the tool (e.g. song) than try to determine the history of the original creator of the tool. I still play/listen to lots of the older Kevin Prosch songs - he was black listed for a long time, but nevertheless his songs were really meaningful to me during a period of my life, and I maintain the song and the singer are two different things.
  23. I recently created a Youtube channel to post clips of my playing but also tutorial videos & a vlog update on general bass guitar news. I Will have mini documentaries on famous songs that feature the bass, which my first video is a deep analysis of Rush's Tom Sawyer which includes a break down of the bass parts & how to tackle the more challenging lines etc. Bass Espresso Thanks for looking & if you subscribe I will be over the moon!
