Royal Blues at The Troubadour, Earls Court, that London. 4 bands, though not remotely similar. Pretty much a capacity crowd, not bad for a Thursday night. We were up for it, lots of friends and family in the (paying) audience. Played two new songs, which went down well. The house bass rig was an Orange 4 stroke bass head and Orange cab. I set everything flat with the compressor half way. It sounded glorious. Ibanez UB804 -> Airbridge wireless -> Orange 4 stroke bass amp -> Orange cab. Footwear -> Maroon brothel creepers.

How was your open mic or jam night last night?Count Bassy replied to tauzero's topic in General Discussion To be fair he doesn't usually get his 3 + 3 + others consecutively, but i is still like he gets at least twice as much as anyone else. Apart from this problem the open mike is generally run pretty well. Pehaps I should sing some songs with Mrs CB on piano (what we normally do) and the suggest that Mrs CB playes some piano with me adding in words!!

Hi Folks, Just had the pleasure of selling a Maya Fretless to Brian, who is a pleasure to deal with and without doubt, one of Basschat's finest! Everything was very straightforward forward with this transaction, as is always the case with Brian, including great comms, no hassle couriers, and fast payment. Highly, highly recommended! ππ Thanks again Brian - I hope you enjoy the bass and here's to the next one. π Best wishes, Nik

I missed this thread when originally posted. I follow you on Bandcamp and got no notification of this, so I just checked there, and it's not listed hahaha, I guess that explains that. I liked that, and looking forward to your album next year too. Mark

Really enjoyed that Tim. To me an unholy mix of Cabaret Voltaire and Depeche Mode (which is a good thing) and a very arresting video. Nice one!

LA Audio high quality active DI box, very solid construction; comes with an instruction leaflet - which is worth reading since the box is deceptively versatile! This works off an 18v rail so can cope with high or low level signals. Power via phantom from your mixer or 2 x 9v batteries Usefully it has a +20db switch to increase the level of low output devices and with 1M ohm input impedance is compatible with piezo pickups The Input will work with Instrument or Speaker levels ('Pad' switch is for speaker level), isolated XLR output for your mixer and a 'link' output to take the signal on to an amp or cab A separate unbalanced output is available as well as the balanced XLR

Excellent solid and versatile active DI box from Canford Audio, only selling since I have three of these It comes with the instruction leaflet Inputs for Instrument or Amp output. Output jack for Amp input or speaker cab alongside. Balanced XLR output to mixer on the reverse. Instrument input 1.8M ohm impedance - so no loading of amp input or pickups Phantom powered off the mixer XLR or by 9v battery

This is a very tough, but relatively lightweight (7kg) 4U rack case. Very solidly built, with two butterfly catches to hold each end piece in place and moulded, recessed handles There is a shallow version, but this is the deeper one with 46cm between the front and back rack strips (just over 50cm front rack strip to back of case) Overall external size is 55cm wide x 23cm high x 61cm deep Rack screws included Pickup from Uxbridge area, or I'll courier 48hr for Β£13

Came today, nice box and seem ok, quite chunky but not too heavy - wouldn't have killed them to make the transmitter and receiver a bit more visibly different from each other, but can put a label on one. Tried them briefly tonight and they seem very quiet which is good, will have to try them with the effects pedals to see how they go but promising so far. i do like that you can replace the batteries.

I had a live CD of theirs, came with a Sunday newspaper supplement, annoyingly I canβt find it now but it was superb, those great songs made even greater with live performance.

Somehow, over the last half a century, 10cc have escaped my attention. Of course I was aware of them, and some of their tunes, but it's only the last few weeks I've realised what a rich seam they are / were. Wonderful writing, arranging, performances, lyrics and artwork. Feel The Benefit is the soundtrack to my life at the mo, and it even has a bass solo around the 9:20 mark. Graham Gouldman is a hell of a player.

That's really interesting and I suspect the different efficiencies of their speakers is an influencing factor too.

I had a Voodoo Labs power supply which had been powering my board in various configurations over several years. I removed one pedal from the board and put the MXR in it's place and it did not like it at all. It kept going through its power up phase where the preset lights chase across the display and wouldn't do anything else. I bought a Cioks DC7 as @Chadu25 and I've had no problems since.

But these are guitar amps that people want to distort/overdrive as that is where the goodness sits. As a bass player I generally want a lot more headroom with my bass amp, especially because if I do use some drive I want need some clean in there as well to keep the low end - so I would say it is all very different with bass amps.
-
Free delivery too if you order 198 of them! Genuinely slightly tempted to do that and spend the next 500 years shifting them at Β£5.99 a piece via eBay... A top bulk buy if someone wanted to take their full inventory.

Guitarist magazine did a shootout. I struggled to find the original but found a summary of the results: Marshall 100 watt 1959 SLP full stack (reissue, 60's spec) Vox AC30 (current, it looked like the fawn colored handwired version) Fender Hot Rod Deluxe with factory standard appointments The readings were from low to high for the three contenders, 119.5 db, 124.1 db and 124.6 db.
