    I hate (operating) compressors. I bought a TC Spectracomp. I tried all the programmed settings I found one I liked. I never have to think about compressors now. When it comes to playing with fingers, the accepted way is to use two fingers. This is great. However, 1 finger was actually good enough for JJ and he seemed to get around just fine. I watched a vid of that guy who had a signature P bass who is a hotshot US session bod (sorry, I cannot remember his name) who was playing with one finger and it does give a subtly different timing/groove.

    Always find these kind of things funny. Designer designs a pedal. Decides its not good enough. It's "rediscovered" and automatically becomes the best thing ever. Reminds me of when music artists die and they find demos they decide to release. Literally things they've made that weren't good enough and literally didn't want to release. That being said, this sounds quite cool, but how different is it to the actual op amp version that was released? Been years since I used a muff.

I did consider converting this bass to passive, but ultimately decided against it as I didn’t want to alter or “ruin” such a well-designed, high-end instrument. It deserves to stay exactly as Fender intended.

    It's not always easy to know what is going down well sometimes. We play a variety of venues: some like to dance, some places It's nigh on impossible to get anyone on the floor. However we nearly always get positive comments, which sometimes comes as a bit of a surprise when you think you're not going down that well. I guess all you can do is enjoy this fleeting existence and hope some of the joy rubs off on other people 😁

    interesting comments about the behringer ones, some of the nasallyness described seems almost appealing. i think ive used an old audio technica atm41a the most, i also have a sennheiser which i think is an 835 but the paints all peeled off so the model label is gone 😩 honestly my vocals are very pg99 type screamoey and i dont really notice much difference between the 2, but i really dislike the squarer grille shape of the sennheiser so its usually the atm. i wonder though, if something more actively terrible might be... better for me

    Yep 2025 marked my 45 years as a bassist. I really should be much better than I am after this amount of time, though I can play what I need to. I remember getting my first bass at 15 and thinking “I’m now a bassist” and that thought has stayed with me throughout my life. Even in the times when I’ve been playing guitar in bands I’ve always considered myself as a bassist who can play guitar rather than as a guitarist.

    That's the bit i don't understand with some bands. If we find a song isn't working or the audience all of a sudden sit down because we started a song then we have a discussion on whether to remove the song or put it on standby. The full band will feel when a song isn't working. What i find over here is that the Glam bands can be great party night fun but with Blues / rock then a lot of people will be watching and admiring the musicianship rather than as an overall show so its swings and roundabouts really. Its different audiences for different styles. Dave

    Hi all, up for sale is a pretty rare beast. I bought this from this very forum a few years ago as an initial foray into Upright. Dan's original for sale thread here has some detailed info on the instrument. It's in exactly the same condition as when I bought it, as it did just one gig with me and has otherwise only been used at home for practice. It's strung B-G and has a piezo pickup in the bridge, with a single jack output on the side. As mentioned in the original FS thread, it's the most authentic sounding and feeling EUB I've ever come across, and was precisely the reason I bought it. The shoulder is detachable, and fits into a pocket within the gig bag. It weighs very little and so can easily be worn on your back with the shoulder straps on the gig bag. Only selling as I need the space! £1000 - Would definitely welcome collection on this as I wouldn't want to post it, but I could also meet somewhere reasonable for a contribution towards fuel.

    Ah yes, the Dave Swift owned one. Very nice basses, they were. I had the Jazz version with the FSR hand oil stained finish. They were based on the American Standard 2012, but had the 2008 pickups, which were better sounding. I shouldn't have sold mine earlier this year. It had a hugely focused modern punch, quite unlike most other Jazzes.
