I'm looking for some help. I'm in my seventh decade and now just play for pleasure, doing the occasional open mic night with a friend. The venues we go to are quite small and more often than not they don't like a bass being plugged directly into their PA system, so I'm looking to put together a very small, lightweight and portable rig that I can take anywhere and either DI into the PA system if the hose is OK with that or use directly. I have a few larger amps and combo's but having arthritis makes it a challenge to move them about, especially when just doing two or three numbers. As part of the plan I have a TC Electronic D Class bass amp on order and recently picked up a used Ashdown 2x10. Which was very cheap as the cab is a wreck but the speakers are fine and want to mount the speakers in a pair of individual 1x10 cabinets that I can pair up if the need arises. I have the skills to do this, in addition being retired I have the time to make the cabs, and though my local Men's Shed have access to a full range of professional tools and woodworking machinery, what I don't have are any plans or designs. I've just completed a ported 1x12 cab using an unmarked speaker which came out OK, however I'd like to be a little more "professional" with the 1x10's. If anyone knows of any plans or designs that I could use I'd be very grateful.

Second that @nuno1959 there are people on here who are seriously knowledgeable and who can help you sort the problem, it’s a lot easier if you get them onside first 👍

I get all that. Doesn’t mean I agree with it.

You are always welcome to disagree with me, but you can probably do so a little more respectfully IMO.

Not at all, we've been building towards something of a consensus, so we'll make it Sunday 13th and that'll nail it down. So, where do you want to meet, and at what time? I'll throw in the suggestion of a Brewdog (Union Square or Castlegate?), 2pm. But feel free to chime in with other ideas/preferences.

Free to a good home - a pair of 1990’s “OMP Linnet” PA speakers . These were sold by BK Electronics (who also had made the well-known OMP Mosfet modules for many years ) – see attached advert from 1992. With 12” LF driver & Piezo tweeter. Rated at 200W RMS each , 8 Ohm , 45Hz -20KHz. Connections are ¼” jack socket (plus 3-pin XLRs as was fashionable at the time ! ) . 510mm tall x 380 wide x 305 deep (20”x 15” x12”) , about 16KG each . Top hat for mounting on a 35mm speaker pole. I have had these for about 20 years - they were briefly used for general purpose PA vocal duties in a band (for which they were fine) , since when they have sat unused at home. I have tested them at low volume and they still seem to work as expected (including the tweeters) though I’m not in a position to try them at higher volume at home. Cosmetically they are in good condition with a few scuffs here and there but nothing major. Obviously technology had moved on and they are a bit old-fashioned these days (or should that be retro & vintage ?! ) but they should still do the job for vocals and such in a rehearsal room or small gigs. Free but you will need to collect them in person from me in Brentford TW8 (about 1 mile from M4 J2) - I will definitely not deliver or post them ! Any questions please message me. Cheers, Pete

Well, I never thought the day would come that I’d be selling this bass because of arthritis. When I ordered this bass I was attempting to create my perfect version of a Gibson EB3 style bass without the things that frustrate me about Gibson basses in general. I have to say that I was, and still am, very pleased with the result. A great gigging bass with a good variety of tones to hand, from deep and rich to very punchy. Weight is just over 4kgs. The bass is in excellent condition having bee cherished all its life. It will come with a gig bag. AGH is a small one-man builder in Leek (when I picked this up, Alex said that was pausing new builds, but that may be old info now). I also have some pics of the build process if anyone would like to see them. Spec.: · Body - Cherry with Indian Rosewood top and radiussed body edges (not beveled) · Finish - Natural satin · Scale length - 32” with 21 vintage-style frets + zero fret · Neck - 5-pc Maple/Wenge (neck through with angled 2 over 2 with Gibson-esque headstock · Nut width – 43mm · Fretboard - Rosewood with 20" radius · Side dots - Luminlay · Bridge - BadAss II · Electronics - Passive: Volume, Blend, Tone, Series/Parallel mini switch for Artec EBC4 · Pickups Neck - Artec EBC4 Mudbucker (placement per early 70s EB-0 / EB-3) · Bridge – Thunderbird-style · Strap locks - Dunlop Dual Design · Tuners - Lightweight Gotoh keys · Hardware colour - Chrome · Strings - D’Addario EX170BT I would probably prefer a meet up to hand over the bass if at all possible or collection from me if you’re nearby. I might consider a courier if either of the preferred options is not possible. Clearly there would be some additional cost involved. There’s an NBD thread here: Here are some pics. Happy to answer any questions, do more pics and for anyone to try the bass out here. Thanks for looking.

The artists playing the festival have always been paid little or nothing because it was all about raising money for charity. Most of the stages are independently run, the festival only books bands for the main stages

There’s a shop on Hallgate called ‘Fret - Don’t Fret’, Rockem music are in nearby Rotherham, and there are quite a few in Sheffield including Rich Tone ( recommended ) and Wizard guitars. Doncaster was where players from my area used to go to for great shops, such as the great Electro Music, sadly no more.

These months just seem to fly by, but then, we get get to hear the great new jazzfunkpunk creations from @Leonard Smalls who was on fire again in MAy. So we fired up the DAW once again and showed how the following picture inspired us. "Here's a pic. it's of some UFOs I saw while on a plane to Geneva a few years ago." Have a listen through and vote for your favourite 3 tracks 1 @Al Nico amongst Us Inspired as we all are by alien music, I created this short piece in Canis Minor, building sounds on synths that portray typical sounds heard during alien encounters, including deep low bass. All dynamics have been removed to capture and portray the natural sound, feel and anxiety of being probed in a busy alien space craft hospital. 2 @Chiliwailer Jammin' with E.T. - is inspired by how I imagine it'd sound when jamming with E.T. at 30,000 feet. 3 @Baloney Balderdash So I put on Syd Barrett's spectacles, and this is what happened... : 4 @Leonard Smalls A punkyfunky thing based on a true story told by a lovely old man (Herr Wilhelm Lügner) in my local pub... 5 @upside downer Anything can happen on a plane. You could drink a hot brew, have a snooze or ingest some top quality drugs whilst watching unidentified flying objects out the window. 6 @AndyTravis Just thought about Top Gun incidental music… 7 Lurksalot no singing here then , definitely 8 @Jean-Luc Pickguard This is 'Aliens in the sky' by Jinky Fuzz. Eclectic works as descriptor for this collection, excellent also works for me ! So that's the lot please cast your three votes by midnight on 30th Enjoy
