  1. Past hour
  2. Nah, you only knock that end bit on mic stands and walls. Better without it! 🤣
  3. Thanks, Mokl. I was running two as a vertical stack – best live sound I've ever had!
  4. £3300 is the sticking point here. Im sure they are absolutely fine basses and great to play, but you can get an arguably better Ric like a new 4003 (or just about any other manufacturer come to think of it) for this sort of money, or even far LESS money. The old 2030 shorty they did before was designed to be a cost-effective alternative to the 4003 for shorty enthusiasts, as was the 3001 before it. Im not sure what the target market here is at this price... at least charge the same as the 4003 (or better still the 4003S), considering its almost exactly the same dimensionally just with different pickups and machineheads? The 4003S is c.£2700, what makes this £600 more? I was very interested in picking one up at a 4003S kinda price point but at this figure its a very easy "nope".
  5. Very true, both your comment on social attitudes and the headstock.
  6. Thanks. If it’s boost and cut I’ll get one asap.
  7. Bump for the Sunday scrollers!
  8. That is weird as hell and I love it.
  9. There are plenty of bands playing the bars in that area and most of the bass players are friendly. Maybe approach one of them for advice.
  10. We live in times where we're afraid to be frank, brutal and honest with social posts, for fear of reprisals/replies in the form of if you can't say anything nice... but this is 100% spot on. It's an absolute munter of a bass. You have to have some love for an instrument you're going to pick up and play, but not this one. The headstock looks like Lego.
  11. Totally gutted to miss it, hoping for better in November
  12. Footswitch sold separately so price amendment £500 for the head unit
  13. Quite like the body shape but the end of the headstock needs to be rounded in my opinion !! John 😎
  14. Location: Teesside (N.E.)
  15. Exactly the wear is perfection, worth every penny and tells such a story! Such a beauty of an instrument!
  16. It's an interesting one, 'cos there's an argument that tops are completely fine with going down to 60Hz? So why cross at 100Hz? I'm definitely no expert here, but if a key purpose is to relieve the tops of their low end lows to focus on non-bass frequencies, then crossing over at 150Hz (because the bass combo can easily handle up to this) would be more beneficial than 100Hz. But, as I say, I'm no expert!
  17. Solder ground to output. Don't rely on the screw contact on a metal plate. Pot cases should be soldered, too. Use a file to scratch the surface for easier soldering. When assembling the harness to the bass, check that none of the wires or parts touch the body. You should paint (conductive) or use copper tape to shield the cavities and ground them to the harness.
  18. We (Weeds) played at a small and rather intimate venue in Chester (G21)... It was our first gig as a full band for nine years so we'd spent a couple of days at my house rehearsing and drinking tequila. We don't really rely on any guitar solos - guitar is mainly rhythmic noise - and our singer uses a vocal synth to make weirdness. After being fine in rehearsal it packed up, so some improvisation was called for. So first song was a false start due to laptop sequence mismanagement, but once we got going it seemed to work reasonably well - cock ups were mainly guitar based which was good as much of the set is drum, bass sequence and vox. And vox coped very well without vocal synth, all was generally groovy and I even managed slap bass plus improvised jazz funk solo. No cans were thrown so we could take down the chicken wire after the first song, and towards the back I could see our own @lurksalot pogoing about. It's possible we may be asked back in the spring to play in a larger venue... Gear was ACG-Helix-BBE& Crown amps- Markbass 4x10 with pedal distortion and autowah. Shoes were zebra creepers.
  19. Are you gonna build a bass or convert the side dots of an existing one?
  20. EMG makes P pickups in a DC (dual coil) case. I also remember that Ibanez and few other manufacturers in the 80's had P pickups in a humbucker case. I think @Bassassin could list all of them. (EMG widths, as everybody knows, are 3.5" - 4.5".)
  21. Just pulled the trigger on a white one, should arrive tomorrow.
  22. Today
  23. The pickups on my Maruszczyk J type are Delano JSBC 4 HE/M2 (catchy name), split coil humbuckers and the neck pickup sounds just like my P Bass.
  24. Just stopped at Sedgemoor Services for a quick pit stop. 🚗 ☕
