How was Your rehearsal last morning or night ?
zbd1960 replied to nilorius's topic in General Discussion
Backm from hols and I attend a workshop yesterday run by a local music charity (Drum and Brass) aimed at getting more people of all ages involved in music making. We were asked to bring instruments along (I took a tenor sax) and the session was about conducting. Groups and ensembles of all kinds need conductors and without them groups either don't happen or fold... so this is aimed at getting people started on that road. I have ended up having to conduct at times, e.g. the conductor is stuck in traffic, or is ill. Some of the session was about organisation/admin such as rehearsal room layout, repertoire selection, rehearsal planning, etc. I think following yesterday I am going to be asked to help out with one group... I will report more in due course. -

This might win the award for least helpful reply in a thread resurrection 😂 7 months later and this is what he got. -
Thankfully memorised. Took a bit to comfortably change keys. Analysing each note in a bar really helped so that, in the new key, I wasn’t relying on the same shape to make it work. Different fingerings to a point - playing them in different octaves for now, but I still plan to go through them again starting on a different finger, two strings only, one string only. The different examples of ‘Bye Bye Blackbird’, etc are making much more sense now - I’m hearing the chord against the chord tones, and hearing how the exercise becomes a choice in what to play. So next up are the five sample bass lines starting on page 21. The plan is to play slowly and hear how the line and the examples work against the chord. My goal is to internalise this to the point of seeing/hearing a chord and not defaulting to R-3-5-7 in a panic! What are you working on Rob?

Woodinblack started following Rickenbacker bridge pickup height screws
-
So my new rickenbacker 4003s bridge doesn't have any screws, so the briidge pickup is way down in the hole and quiet. I assume being a rickenbacker those screws are some random imperial size that would be tricky to get anywhere or be a custom and expensive order. Any idea what those screws are? these screws (as not shown in the picture!)

NoirBass started following Yamaha RBX 800a late 80's/Early 90's
-
Yamaha RBX 800a - I lusted after one of these in the early 90's whilst playing in metal bands at a time where I enjoyed the pointy headstock aesthetic. I found this one a few years ago in its original (albeit tatty) hard case in a magnificent white blizzard pearl. Needless to say it ticks all the boxes looks wise and its sound is pure 80's active rock machine. The pre amp is loud and scooped, it absolutely sings when thumping out 8th notes! I had it serviced about a year ago and its sat in its case ever since waiting for the call from 'Jeff Leppard' or whatever hair metal gig was in store for it. Sadly the call never came and my spandex is offensively tight these days so I think its time to move it on to someone with more hair than me. It does have some obvious signs of wear in line with a 35 year old instrument, some swirling, discoloring and a few dinks, but no major chips. The pics are a little misleading, it’s closer to the middle two shots that are whiter in reality. Not yellow as in the other shots. Demos welcome in north London N21 I don't really want to ship at the moment, but I may change my mind for the right deal?

If anyone wants to read further, here's a copy of Complicated Game - Inside The Songs of XTC by Andy Partridge and Todd Bernhardt. This came to me from a music writer pre-publication. It's in ePub format, so you'll need to download an ePub reader (Microsoft Store etc.). Obviously, it goes without saying, the book is still in print. Complicated Game - Inside The Songs Of XTC.epub

Ok, you can have first dibs. I'll sort it out first and make sure it's tip top. It is surprisingly light for a 2x12. I think they use the same drivers as the NEO range. It's a one hand lift....carefully.

OK , I asked for it ! This is a story of how some things don't always work out, all singing and dancing , promises, promises and then the shine comes off and it all becomes a let down ... Love story Technical.. EZ dummer pounds the skins , Gordon smith clanks through the low end , Ibby 6er thrashes about most of the way through it , UJam provides a little rhythm structure and the piece de resistance is the stunning vocal over the top of it all. The cab is working fine, and the guy I got it off used a jack to speakon, so he didn't use that jack socket on the cab. But I'll check it over anyway. I won't be keeping the cab I don't think, whilst I can secrete RB heads here and there without arousing much suspicion, cabs are harder to hide, and with the addition of this one, there are now three cabs in the conservatory. The cab came with the head, so I didn't have a choice whether or not to take it.

Many thanks to everyone for your comments and advice. All of it duly noted and I'm meeting my friend at Birmingham Guitar Guitar next month. I'll keep you posted on what he decides on this thread. Also if I give in and end up with a Talman. Evidence may be provided.

That looks really good and should sound thunderous with the amp. If the board inside has flexed when the jack socket was loose the tracks might have become cracked so check it over when you next disassemble it to make sure it’s all ok. I used a jack to speakon cable for my 400 to my modern gk cab, had it made for me in the correct length. Wish my 400 had a speakon output as it’s more secure but it seems to be working well as is anyway.
