A few more inputs (if you add a stage box) as the x32 has er 32 channels available whereas the XR18 has 16 plus the usual stereo channel hence the ‘18’. You will have a lot more routing options in the x32 but with it a much steeper learning curve. Same with effects, but if you are only using the desk for IEM’s that shouldn’t be an issue. You’re more than welcome to come and have a play with my XR18 if you want before you commit to the x32?

My radio alarm clock goes off to LBC in the morning and the presenter on breakfast show (I'm not naming them deliberately) was really scathing of the whole thing. Laughing at the average age of attendees being 39, scathing of acts whether they had made political statements or not, etc etc Very odd!

The venue. Forgot to mention, it's an easy load in/out as you can back a car up close to the doors which are just out of picture to the right.

A couple of the national papers have been churning out social media posts criticising some minor element of this act or that act with a seemingly standard strapline saying “one punter said it was shocking” etc. One punter whinging on twitter does not a news story make. Or at least it shouldn’t. Some of the more right-wing press also seem to have been digging deep to selectively pick out something to dislike. I suspect going along and having a good time is a lot more fun than sitting in an office whinging about it (probably bitter they didn’t get a freebie ticket).

According to the Grauniad, every artist was worthy of five stars. <checks> Tell a lie, Nile Rodgers and Chic got four stars and well-known Enoch Powell fan and Reform supporter Dino Rod only got three.

I guess I didnt realise I liked a coloured tone so much when I started this thread. I still think the NUX is much better as it has amp sims and IR's, but after using them for a few weeks I just missed the colouring I get with the BDDI. I dont go full on with the blend, but that too adds a little bit of something to the sound that appeals to me. I dont use an amp at home so I guess the 'bland' comment could be in relation to that. I really did like it, and think with a bass rig it might have worked, but the BDDI does the underlying tone and the 'something' on top in one box. As did the NUX. I think the other factor to go back to the BDDI was I really didnt want a main powered box. This bugged me a little. Not a deal breaker, but all in, I went with what I know works for me. Maybe it was just GAS after all.

An ambient mic would certainly work and be cheaper but you'd probably have to compromise with how the drums sounded in the monitors. Given my experiences i'd rather have single mic drums than some of the IEM feeds I've experienced. The EAD10 is two ambient mics and the kick drum via a trigger and all the eq etc is sorted for you. Even at an ordinary gig it will probably give you as good as/better than you''d get with a 3 mic set up done in a rush. Talking to drummers they are marmite, some won't touch them and some swear by them.

I could see Neil Young playing the first Pilton festival alongside Stackridge and the free milk. Rod Stewart, not so much🤔

Gluing cut-up bits of an old trouser belt on to a standard sized gig bag that allows it to be used for a short scale bass and hence stored in the car boot, out of sight.

This has been an accusation made about Glastonbury since it stopped being a free festival. I think each generation has an expectation about what type of festival Glastonbury is/should be based upon their personal experience of enjoying the festival during a particular era.

So our gig yesterday was er challenging. Firstly our singer arrived at the gig with a sore throat which got progressively worse over the two sets. Then, just one song from the end of the first set, the PA tripped. Looks like one of our extension reels took exception to the rather warm and humid conditions and tripped its thermal protection, even though the reel itself was stone cold and the cable was fully uncoiled (a lesson learned from the past). Then, during soundcheck all our in-ears were working fine, but as soon as we fired up in earnest, mine started suffering massive dropouts. So I quickly had our roadie/helper/harmonica player reel out another XLR to move my transmitter to my side of the ‘stage’ at which point I had perfect signal, but the singer/guitarist then suffered drop outs (we’re both using X-Vives and we’ve never had this before). So I finished the first set old school, no plugs or IEM’s and I had forgotten just how loud this is, and how difficult it is to pick your bass out in the mix when you are a) stood virtually on top of you cab, and b) right next to the drums. Second set I went wired with my Behringer P2M and no further problems. Oh and did I mention it was hotter than hell in the venue, a smallish pub with a great reputation for live music and fine ales.

Brilliant, wonder if we should try that next time it happens. Dave

I think i follow what you mean Pete. I've heard bassists talk about playing from chord charts and just wondered whether or not it was something different to what i expected. Dave

In my head I'm wondering about some form of ambient mic near the kit @Phil Starr What are we losing by going the XR18 @JPJ as opposed to X32?

If you are going with the MS8000 then you could save on the X32 rack and go with an X-Air XR18 which is currently retailing for an unbelievable £359
