Grooverjr started following The Jack II
-
I wanted to have a bash on a headless and this is my 'name bass' so I picked it up from @dodgnofskion here a couple of years ago. I got sidetracked working overseas and never got the chance to give it a really good go until a couple of months ago and I have to say it's been a blast. So easy to play, has some lovely tones available, very nice to slap even for a total numpty like me. it has also changed my opinion on painted necks basses. But I have to sacrifice a couple of basses so The Jack is getting Jacked. The good: It's got a bolt on neck (with the title adjust) and is passive which avoids two of the main issues these basses tend to have. For a passive VVT it's quite tonally versatile. Lots of variation from the tone pot even with what the old rounds it is strung with. For my money it gives a lovely slap tone as it is and I wouldn't want to change the strings. Overall the body and neck are in pretty good condition, no major scuffs or dings anywhere. Pots all clean moving and no crackles. The bad: The neck is slightly twisted right at the end - first fret and the nut. I didn't notice it for quite a while as it plays fine and the strings all sit at a good height and it was only when I happened to catch it from the right angle that I saw it. I can't feel it when I play even though I know it's there but maybe another player would. I have tried to capture it in the last photo. The pups have got a bit of damage to the plastic (not sure what would have done it -quite odd) and some of the poles are a little rusted. Not a surprise on a bass of this age, really. The G string doesn't align perfectly over the poles (and sits slightly further in from the edge of the fretboard) but with the bridge and spacing the way it is I don't see how it could ever align fully with pickups that size. No noticeable drop in volume from the G string but I haven't given it a full live level bashing. I also expect that with a bit of shifting the neck could fit better in the pocket and get the strings completely even if you like that kind of thing. I have avoided doing this as they are known for being a bit temperamental and I didn't want to get myself into something I couldn't get myself out of. All in all, a lovely player but as it was a relatively cheap bass at the time it has a few idiosyncrasies. I am putting to up at what I think is a good price (and taking a hit on what I paid) because I want to sell it quick but also willing to listen to offers. Sorry no trades. I have a tatty padded gig bag I could probably wrap in something to post it but would much prefer collection or London / North Kent meetup.

Has anyone bought any bass pedals from Sine Wave? They appear to be a small operation in Glasgow. I’m looking for a low- & high-pass filter pedal, and they popped up in my search. Looking at this https://sineeffect.com/C24-High-Low-Pass-filter-pedal-p595346070

Glad it was helpful. Your story is similar to that of many of us. You buy something that, at the time, seems just the job and doesn't cost too much, but quickly outgrow it or become aware of its limitations. Then you buy something that's a little better (on paper, at any rate), outgrow that, etc, etc. Rinse and repeat and you end up with a pile of gear and none of it does the job for you. Had you bought what you really wanted in the first place, it would probably have cost about the same as all the stuff you've bought and you'd still be happy with it. One advantage of buying quality kit is that it retains some resale value, even if the initial expenditure hurts a bit. Stuff from firms such as Behringer et al never holds value. Why would people buy it used, with no guarantee or comeback if anything goes wrong, when they can buy it new and avoid the risk for not a lot more? If your headphones don't scratch the itch, I'd suggest selling your existing gear for whatever you can get for it (the money's already been spent and anything you can recoup is a bonus). Then ignore the local shops that don't have much by way of stock. Instead, hop in the car and have a day out at somewhere like Bass Direct (other shops are available, etc), try stuff and buy what you really like. Ignore reviews and other peoples' opinions and choose what you like. Being retired, you can go in the week when they're not busy, so you can take your time trying things and make the right decision.. I finally saw the light and did just that some years ago after I retired. I spent a chunk of money, which hurt, but I've had no wish to upgrade since. Buy once, cry once, etc. -
Kind of wishing Ernie Ball hadn't replaced the body on my past Special I had in 2018. It was originally under 8lbs, but would of got lighter, arguably acoustically more resonant, due to an Ash Bora Beetle infestation 😂…long story short was the new body was over 9lbs and therefore I sold it. Could of been in the 6lbs by now 😂😂…someone out there is missing out making Paulownia Stingray bodies!

Different basses hum worse than others. I had an 80’s Tokai which had it really bad even when going straight into a DI.

From the other side of the fence from someone who has used deps for their band, I'll repeat this because IMO it is worth repeating: If there is a dress code then follow it! While we didn't except our deps to go all out with full leathers (we were a garage punk/psychobilly band) although it would be nice if they had, we did think that a simple instruction to wear black with no obtrusive band or brand logos and no trainers for anyone other than the drummer would be easy to follow. However you'd be surprised by how many couldn't or wouldn't do this. Remember that for the night you are on stage you are part of the band and you are in part responsible for maintaining their reputation both sonically and often visually.

I enjoyed it also and thought his voice was pretty strong for his age. -
Sorry, I should elaborate - I was getting a terrible hum, really standing out on a quiet part of the track. But wasn’t get it so much on my Ray, I put it down to single coil issues and home electrics, but then realised the culprit was in the chain and the different setting I use for each bass didn’t come into my mind at the time, doh 🙄 Ended up using the Ray anyway, but good to know as it’s been nearly a year since I gave my Jazz a good work out.

Ok this was for a project but I no longer need it. This is a brand new Allparts Jazz neck, never installed of used. Since purchasing I have added a Fender Logo supplied by Rothko & Frost and a bone nut. The frets have been dressed, fretboard oiled and it's in beautiful condition. David Wilson then completely finished the neck in lacquer with a lovely tint on the face, his work is outstanding. In total this neck owes me about £600 ish so offering it out at £500 including UK delivery. Open to offers and potential trades HX Stomp, Radial JDI, Bassrig… let me know

Interesting. What would you say is the main difference between the BF and the LfSys other than volume?? -
NHM started following Gibson Les Paul Tribute short scale Bass

I've owned this from new, it's unmodified, pro set up by Crockett Guitars, TI Jazz flats fitted in excellent condition. The bass is unmarked as far as I can see and in mint condition, ready to gig. Complete with Hiscox hard case, original case candy and Gibson strap. Reluctant sale as it is a really lovely instrument but it isn't getting played so it can move to a new home. Cash and Collection only, from Faversham.
