  2. We have 4 of these and just stand them wherever there's space, they work a treat. No specialised stands or anything, just put them on the floor or on an amp or something. Worth every penny.
  3. This is mine - an early 1960s Philips 4-track. 3 speeds, magic eye etc. I have several tapes of my grandfather playing guitar. I tracked down the exact same model they were recorded on, to give me the best chance of getting a decent playback. It feels very strange plugging it into an audio interface and recording into Logic Pro. It is working right now - I bought it from a YouTuber who'd serviced it, but for how long I don't know, so I don't use it for anything.
  4. The Songs of Joni Mitchell project (again), this time featuring Kate Stables as well as founder members Jesca Hoop and Lail Arad. After that, Emma Jean Thackray at Band on the Wall, on the off chance she wins the Mercury and becomes stadiums only from that point on.
  5. I really like these basses. They look superb.
  6. Ok so I need to put together a pedal board for some gigs - I’m mostly a drummer these days but this work has come in, so… Will need a DI, some compression, a bit of overdrive and a tuner I was going to get a Sansamp, but then it struck me that I already own a Radial JDI, and a TU2. BDDI is £250… So, I’m thinking a compression pedal and an overdrive. Affordable but decent for pro gigs. If I could spend £150 ish and get both then cool…used at this budget. Any recommendations? This way I can buy 2 affordable units and be done. cheers Chris
  7. £50 price reduction Trades - X Touch Universal. Try me with anything, I can only say no 😁 Great bass in good condition, comes with hard case. Short scale. Not a heavy bass. Plays well. Not really any damage to speak of. There’s a little bit at the top of the headstock (photographed) but looks much worse than it actually is. I’ve removed the strap lock pins and replaced them with the originals that were odd when I got it. The case is old but fully function and all the clasps work. Can post at buyers expense or can be collected from BB22SH Any questions please ask.

  8. I had the stereo and sold it. Regretted it and bought the mono. It really is the Swiss Army knife of amp world. I’ve got a Markbass Evo 1 to try out at the moment which basically, has the Multiamp amps and effects but has two independent channels, which is exactly what I need. I think it’s what I’ve been looking for, for a long time 😁
  9. More lovely work Ron 😉👍🏼
  10. Really helpful from some top Basschat experts, thanks 😇 So, if I was to go ahead buying from here in the UK, where is the best source ? I'm thinking they have to come from abroad even if buying from Amazon. Presumably their isn't a UK distributor? 🤔
  11. Indeed, high C to be able to play in the high register like a cello or a guitar and sometimes so high he's close to a violin.
  12. Hi Folks, Earlier this week, I had the pleasure of buying an immaculate Handbox R400 head from Russ, aka @RJB280. The amp itself is fantastic, and with this being the version 2 model with the mid eq, it's even better than I remember these amps to be. Whilst there, I had a really nice chat (about all things bass) with Russ, and I can only reiterate what's been said above in that, he's an absolute gent and a great person to do a deal with. Highly, highly recommend.... 👍 Russ - thanks for your time and warm welcome, and thanks also for letting me have a play on your lovely early 60s P and J basses, which were stunning! 🙏😊 Cheers Nik
  13. I've been using mine live in Alt Rock and pop/synth contexts. In the studio it has been all over everything, from low to high gain and everything in between. As well as on multiple different sources. Bass / Guitar /Drums / Synth...etc.
  14. Today
  15. My last audition, I got to learn some songs I love but had never had the chance to play with a band previously. Afterwards, I realised that even if I didn’t get the gig, I really enjoyed the opportunity. An established band will have history. There will be private jokes and shared gig memories that you are not party to. When these are referred to, prepare to feel a bit awkward, and practice having an expressionless face!
  16. Thread hijack alert! 🤭 Proof 😆 just done some tonight 😜😎
  17. So let me get this straight, this is a short scale Ric that is essentially just as big as an ordinary Rick, just the string length is shorter? For £3300? For me, a big part of the attraction of a short scale bass is the overall reduction in size of the instrument, and I strongly suspect most other bass players feel the same. A scaled down 4001/3 would have been much better and would have been more saleable I expect. I strongly suspect that the economics of manufacturing have been decisive in the conception of this bass, i.e it works out more profitable to make them that way because a scaled-down bass would require a whole new build process and retooling ect.
  18. Cleaning won't be sufficient, the capacitors will collapse on themselves and the motors will burn. It could be fun, but the smell is awful.
  19. Only one pole piece per string = more space!
  20. Very good gig tonight. Very successful in every sense - 19 new followers on the Instagram, swathes of posts and stories and the owner of the bar (before we'd even finished, mind) emailing us offering us 9 dates over the next year. Crazy stuff. Rig was the new (to me) fender MIM standard P bass (I'll do a NBD on it, maybe), over Swiff Audio 5.8ghz into the TC Electronic BG250 combo. No pedals, no nothing. Simple as anything set up, and I got compliments from bar staff and audience members on how clear and punchy the bass was. *footwear were the same pair of puma suedes I always wear.
  21. And the annoying chrome bezel is gone too. I found it's removal made mine far, far more playable. Lovely colour combo with the AG and gold. GLWTS
  22. I had a ‘51 P pickup that comprised tow coils side by side. It was made by a guy in Spain: Jess Loureiro. You could wire them in series, or parallel on a DPDT switch, which I tried. It was pretty pointless TBH. It sounded thin and horrible in parallel IMO but great in series. P.S. Now I think about it; not totally pointless because it was pretty hum free.
  23. By the time this bass was made Overwater were based up north and not Denmark Street.
