  1. Past hour
  2. I don’t know what I am. I find it very awkward pushing my own creations, but will happily talk all day about other’s work, which I can’t help but be incredibly enthusiastic about. I like being a bassist and working with others, in a team for the betterment of a project or an inclusive passion; but I work alone as a teacher and am more than confident in my realm knowing both my worth and my sh*t for which I expect to be compensated for. I write, compose, journal, review, produce columns, professional videos, music and bass material for myself, session or freelance work. I get to do my ideal job, passion and hobby as my gainful employment and run my own business.Well over 35 years playing bass, over 15 it has been my sole income. Educator? Influencer (eurrghhhhh), Artist? Oh, I know, as my career’s officer actually said, “that’s all well and good Daniel, but what will you do for a real job?”
  3. Essentially new EHX 360 Nano Looper with power supply and original box. I bought this for a specific project earlier this year. That project is now finished so I have no need for this pedal. It’s had less than 10 hours use in a studio environment. No trades thanks. Price includes shipping to locations within the UK. I took the photos myself and I am blind, so my apologies if they look like they were taken by a drunk person.
  4. Hi there, I'm downsizing ahead of a house move. This is a Yamaha BB735A passive/active 5 string P/J bass, excellent condition, professionally set up with a fret level & crown & fallaway where the neck meets the body back in July. Comes with an official padded gig bag, is fitted with fairly new Labella flats (lots of reviews love this combo & I was experimenting with a deep smooth active hip-hop/neo-soul sound & swapping to rounds on my main P bass) Active/Passive switch with no volume drop in neutral EQ. Bass/Mid/Treble/Volume pots, and a pickup blend with center detent. I think it sounds great with a slight smiley EQ, go to the extreme & you have an onboard SVT sound. Takes one 9V battery in the back for the active circuit (can use passively without a battery). It is a great bass, lovely looks & sounds & quality & very comfortable slimish flatish neck, incredible value for money, I just haven’t committed to that 5th string. I’ve owned from new since around COVID, rehearsed a couple of times, never gigged, mostly for practicing. Cash/transfer on collection please, meet at or close to Downend Bristol BS16, hopefully priced well to sell. With thanks, Mark
  5. A great flanger pedal that takes up very little space on the pedal board. in excellent condition and good working order. I no longer have the original box but do have a box that it fits in well for postage (see pics). Surplus to requirements and I need the money so it’s got to go. No trades thanks. Price includes shipping to locations within the UK. I took the photos myself and I am blind, so my apologies if they look like they were taken by a drunk person.
  6. Hit the road Jack - Ray Charles
  7. I keep wondering to myself how they stack up against the Sire M6. I still can't decide which (5 string) one to get ? 🤔
  8. Am I right in thinking that this brand is part of a number of companies in the same locality and they have shipped work out from their own workshop to keep up with demand? Or am I imagining that happened at some point? So, I guess my question is; although responsibility and (consumer contract) is between buyer and seller, did someone else, a 3rd party “do the work”? Ya know, since it is unusual that examples like this come out of the brand’s workshop? I’ve no idea, just asking.
  9. Sounds great, nicely bass forward, but I couldn't make out the lyrics at all, 'kissing you' I think I heard but that was about it - I don't know how the punk producers did it but back in the 70s we could hear pretty much all the words over the instruments, or at least the bands I listened to, pistols, vibrators, undertones, buzzcocks et al, Siouxie was a bit vague sounding sometimes, maybe that's why I preferred the pretenders Great retro video, is MTV still a thing ?
  10. And vice versa, haha! Have the prices come down a bit recently, I thought they were closer to £340 inc P&P?
  11. It will be a full spread review for Bass Gear Magazine (see signature). I have to say, they are both brilliant and certainly make a mockery of generic speakers-in-boxes. I’m a sucker for painted baffles I have to say, but Monaco is an impressive lil tike. There will be a written review and, I’ll be adding to the review section here. Please bare with me.
  12. Few more pics
  13. I’d grabbed this deal a while back and it’s very good! I paid ≈£30 I think which is silly money for all of that! MODO Bass is worth that just for putting Dingwall pickups on a Violin bass (or vice versa!) 😂
  14. I have always referred to myself as a stupid pretend pop star. I picked that up from watching ‘Bad News’ years ago, and it resonated.
  15. This stunning bass is haunting my dreams AND my waking hours. Someone please buy this very quickly 😁
  16. 9 lb or 4.1 kg on the bathroom scales
  17. Ibanez Talman is a cracking little short scale bass for not much money. I have expensive basses but I gig with my Talman more often than not.
  18. Lovely that buddy, the colour and wear is sublime
  19. That's a 12 string.
  20. Ironically bass here is your enemy. almost anything below 80Hz (the 2nd harmonic of bottom E) should be left for the drums and even up to 160Hz you are in an area where you will be fighting with the drums to be heard. I use a 35Hz 24db/octave filter to remove all subsonics and shelve the bass response through the PA below 160Hz or thereabouts. Please don't take these frequencies as gospel for your eq though you still need to get 'your' tone but remember you are trying to get the balance right between bass and mid/treble. Turning the bass down and maybe edging the volume up is as valid a way of making the mids shine through as boosting mids. It's not a bad principle to start with everything set flat and then cut bass. The idea of using a decent pre amp isn't a bad one either, using a SansAmp transformed my sound with almost no effort from me. One thing you should also be aware of is the equal loudness contours which I'll put in below. It's the opposite of the loudness curve you are deliberately putting in when you use your mid scoop. We are hyper sensitive to mids at low volumes but almost totally insensitive to bass frequencies until they get loud. We aren't great with low level high frequencies either. Turning up you volume control boosts the bass and treble contrasted to the mids which is why a mid scoop sounds good at home but not at gig levels. Going from 80db average levels at home to 100db in the PA might mean you need to cut 5db from the bass to get the same subjective sound. You can read that off on the graph but the message generally is don't be scared to cut bass knowing that you genuinely sound bassier simply by being louder. One thing that worries me is that you say you have no back line (which is brilliant) and you describe your PA but don't mention monitors. You are using monitors aren't you? You simply won't hear the mid/tops from your PA just a wooly bass sound. You absolutely need some sort of monitoring Anyway loudness curves
  21. £305 online for vip version. I’m tempted! Though if you’re selling one secondhand in a few weeks I can wait…
  22. Reopening this as I have had a bad few days with my neck and I really should replace this beauty with a bass that weighs 8 pounds or preferably less. Also adding a few photos taken today.
  23. Hey thanks Paddy, I have been looking at that one 😆
  24. Anyone going to The Wildhearts in Newcastle in December?
