  2. TC Electronic do a pedal called the MimiQ which is supposed to replicate double tracking. Phasing might become an issue depending on how the signal is treated along the chain.
  3. Today
  4. Bracing is seldom unnecessary, unless you're building with 36mm plywood. My personal cabs are built from 3mm and 6mm plywood, which is possible because they use necessary bracing. Sure, if you want state of the art circa 1984. 😲
  5. It really projects on 'spin', but craps out on 'rinse'. 😁
  6. The HX Stomp has an effect which combines pitch shift and delay. I've used it to emulate a 12-string bass (well, a 15-string, but that's splitting hairs) as it has two separate parallel routes of delay and pitch shift. Can't remember if they can be diverted to L or R specifically.
  7. Normally I eschew Amazon because Jeff Bezos. However...
  8. Yesterday
  9. Thanks for all the suggestions in the end I went for a Rodenberg LDP The clean boost is enough to push the preamp on the LB just enough and the Drive section sounds great
  10. so early that its not even peart on drums ...
  11. That is an awesome selection of knobs it must be said. Thank you Hellzero. As it goes, I took JPJ's advice and called Overwater, I think it was Chris I spoke to, who was, as usual very chatty and astonishingly knowledgeable and helpful. I ended up ordering some new Overwater knobs. I only wish that someone, anyone would pick up the emails they get from the contact form on their website. I think this is either the second or third time I've filled it in and got nowhere. Would any of you folks happen to know where I can come by a 1 meg log PCB pot and a 1 meg linear PCB pot?
  12. Saturday night it will be Chris Difford at my local venue, The Sound Lounge in Sutton. I, Doris are supporting and they promise to perform their take on Up The Junction from a female perspective, The Girl From Clapham, so this should be fun 😄
  13. Well now, for the very first time, I've listened to a whole Rush track from beginning to end, and with no regrets, to boot..! Thanks for the 'heads up'.
  14. More pics and I wanted to show how easy it is to turn this bass in a reverse P. The routing is made for the two options.
  15. Jumping in here - it's an incredible pedal. Similarly, I paid for mine, so no spin from me. Proper exciting pedal. Had chats with @lowmid early on in the development, and have been anxious for it's release from the first peek. If you can bare me wattling on for almost half an hour, I put what was intended to be a quick video together here: https://www.dropbox.com/scl/fi/botmadte9s3tanj39p9e0/BFF-Demo-Manual.mp4?rlkey=hzkmpppncumlkkuikwqqeox8g&st=6if3icnw&dl=0 It ended up being a fairly extensive video-manual type thing, trying to explore as much of the pedal as I could. Hopefully this will be helpful for people. The expression input has so many possibilities within, and I plan to do some more videos exploring that side of things more. It's very easy to use the expression input to have easy access to two different sounds as well - e.g. with upward envelope modulation you can have a squelchy/synthy sound with expression at heel down, and then with the expression fully opening the filter you have a more standard/straight-forward fuzz. Does the synth thing very very well with an octave before. I'd encourage exploring modulation before the pedal too, as the way it interacts with the envelope follower can be really rewarding for some very animated tones. The Peak filter is the secret sauce as well - really sets the voice of the pedal. Peak gain at minimum will help for exploring those low gain tones, but you can also boost the peak frequency to bring out higher harmonics, or just get things super slice-y. Happy to try and grab basic video/audio of anything people want to see/hear as well.
  16. Rush had some awesome albums. Guilty secret... my favourite Rush song is Working Man.
  17. I doubt it'll be a downgrade, and they're so hard to get hold off, you'd get your investment back. Scratch the itch, itll just eat at you otherwise.
  18. I just found this thread. Funny; I have been wondering about replacing the pickups in the Starfire 1. In my view it is crying out for a great big humbucker like the Bi-Sonic Guild put in the original and the previous reissue. Unfortunately, that would mean significant surgery that could not be reversed and I would need to make up a pickup surround to hide the gaps (the existing set is wider than a bi-sonic, or mudbucker). It could devalue the resale value big time. I then thought about an alternative P bass set that would get closer to the humbucker sound. Up to now, the size of the covers has been putting me off trying but I was looking at it carefully today and came to the conclusion that there are standard P bass pickups underneath (as per the comments on the Guild forum mentioned above). I am going to take one side out tomorrow to have a look. If they are standard, then I might order a DiMarzio DP-127 Split P set to replace the stock parts. The DP-127 is essentially two humbuckers in a split P bass pickup configuration. As far as I am aware, this is the only humbucker replacement set for P bass…..unless of course, someone knows of another one out there?
  19. i did try to trawl their post moving pictures 80s/90s catalogue not too long ago ...put on a few tracks and quite enjoyed them but never felt compelled to come back for another listen ..i might try putting their albums on the car jukebox instead to subliminally break through my mental block.
  20. Last nightwe got together and spent two hours watching the 49-minute video of the originals band's first gig and critiquing everything from the lighting, what we wore, where we stood to what we played right and wrong and how we can tighten up dome of the arrangements. We agreed we meed a 'script' (more of a set of prompts) for the brief between-song bits to develop a more structured narrative. We also need to split the role of narrator and weapon-wielding clown... It's turning into a crash course in writing, producing and performing a musical!
  21. I just listened to Grace Under Pressure; it’s a great album.
  22. well i finally did get an instant response after the fourth attempt .. forums can be a useful place for constructive feedback.
  23. Saw Roachford at the Globe last year. Wasn't sure what to expect but he was excellent.
  24. We're looking to get a smaller PA speaker set-up. We're currently using an XR-18 into a pair of big Behringer Eurolive 1200w speakers. The speakers are great for outdoor, or a bigish indoor venue, but are much too big for a small pub. I see all the open mic / one man band looper type people using Bose L1 systems, but there are loads of cheaper alternatives out there now. Has anyone had a particularly good experience with one of these Bose-a-like products?
  25. Barefaced use really thin plywood. That only works with a lot of bracing. You could do 10mm plywood with some less fancy bracing and it would be lighter than 12mm with minimal bracing.
  26. Snakeoil Salesmen - Just Keep Swimming another new song and another music video! Safe to say I’m fully into this home recording lark now!
  27. Ill singist meant that tonight was bass, drums and guitar so we spent some time looking at arrangements and texture to the material - useful session and my DHA Vt2 Custom - P bass - Ampeg sound was (chef's kiss).
  28. Yes, based on the Eminence specs I thought my cabs would be ok. I guess I got it backwards with the ports. I definitely want the 'full' 450W with smaller cabs. I'm looking for an easy design for my carpenter friend to build me some - perhaps TL606-type cabs. I also saw a Barefaced-type design by d-basser in a thread here from a few years ago, but it seemed like it had a lot of (unnecessary?) bracing in it.
