If playing a vinyl record isn't enough hassle
Rosie C replied to Jean-Luc Pickguard's topic in General Discussion
I think if it's been properly stored, and been wound the right way, then it can still be good. I watched this YouTube video recently of someone who'd bought a reel-to-reel recording from the Sergeant Pepper master and Abbey Road helped him play and digitise it... -
whats confusing? @prowla

These are the correct record titles for ease of finding. 😉 And to be complete: Hans Werner Henze wrote a few pieces for double bass, including the Concerto for Double Bass and Orchestra and the solo work San Biagio 9 Agosto ore 12.07. He also authorized an arrangement of his Serenade for solo double bass, originally for cello, and the Trauer-Ode, which was adapted for six double basses from its original for six cellos.

I go in cycles too. The temptation and ‘gadget factor’ of having a small box that does everything and more is cool. But I always end up using a couple of things regularly and not using the rest, then finding the ones I do use are not worth having a whole system for. I also like desperate pedals because they are quite addictive to collect and compare. Right now my board hasn’t changed for ages and I’m totally happy with it, but I have some other pedals at home for fun and mucking about. Also to add - it’s worth having staple classics like an OC2 and Big Muff, for example, as most multis will model them. Of course it doesn’t matter how close they are if you like the sound, but it’s just interesting to have the original thing to benchmark against.

I'm in too. Close enough to home to cope if a gig should come in.

I've realised other than a bit of dabbling I'm not really a man for the fivers! So I can't have this hanging about doing nothing. Really superb condition with a couple of marks I've highlighted. I'm looking for a sale or a trade with a Precision style bass with a thinnish or normal neck. I have the custom/Vintera and love it but not sure if I'm getting on with the thick neck, Here is a bit of blurb Built in 2020, lovely custom Maruszczyk Elwood 5a is a fantastic player with a huge range of tones from the Aguilar AG5J-HC hum-cancelling pickups and Delano Sonar 2-band preamp. If you know Maruszczyk, you’ll know these are exceptional instruments — German-designed, handmade in Poland. Specs: Year: 2020 Body: Alder Body Finish: Gloss Charcoal Metallic Sparkle (a deep metallic grey with a subtle blue hue) Neck: Maple with Maple fretboard – lovely grain, painted gloss finish Reinforcement: Carbon rods in the neck Nut Width: 45 mm Radius: 14" Scale Length: 34" Frets: 21 Pickups: Aguilar AG5J-HC hum-cancelling Electronics: Delano Sonar 2-band active preamp Push/pull volume for active/passive switching Treble knob doubles as passive tone control Bridge: Standard Maruszczyk (19 mm spacing) Tuners: Standard Maruszczyk Weight: 9 lbs 12 oz (4.4 kg) Condition: Excellent overall condition with some tiny signs of wear. Everything work perfectly. Comfortable to play, looks and sounds brilliant. Extras: Includes the original Maruszczyk gig bag and certificate Price / Trades: £1000 Prefer collection from Glasgow, but can ship within the UK at the buyer’s expense (securely packed and fully insured). Would also consider trades or part-exchanges for a Precision-style bass — ideally with a thinner neck than my current P! Particularly interested in: USA or MIJ Fender Precision MIM Nate Mendel Precision Maruszczyk or Limelight P-basses Open to other quality P-style options too — so what have you got!

Speaking of compact gigging pedal boards, I've been really enjoying this set up for the past 5 months: However Boss went and released their XS-1 pitchshift pedal, which looked really neat and has been getting excellent reviews for its tone and tracking and meant we could potentially extend our set to the lower vocal range of our alto singer without me needing to re-learn songs in different keys and new muscle memory. However no space on my mini board, and my next size up was a Rockboard, but gave the opportunity to add an expression pedal which puts the XS-1 into full whammy mode. Space left over to re-load a few other pedals that had been sitting on my pedal shelf itching to be used and my trusty Zoom B1-4 as a back up multi, which also provides a beats unit - would have come in very handy at a recent gig when the drummer had a puncture and couldn't make the gig, so we ended up doing the gig as a drum-less 3 piece, which was character building!

The Short Scale Bass Appreciation Society!

I would call that medium scale, which puts it right in my bag. I love all those ‘80s medium scale basses from Japan. That one is pricey though. I guess there isn’t sufficient market for them to consider reintroducing them but I’m surprised they haven’t jumped on the short scale band wagon. Shorties seem to be riding a wave of popularity at the moment and a well designed Yamaha SS would surely sell well. -

Great versatile combo with a lovely sounding preamp and well designed Eq. Aux in for practicing or for use with other instruments. 12 inch driver plus a good horn, ported design. 120 watts. Tilt back design is great for small spaces and monitoring (pointing at your ears not at your legs!). There are scuffs on the tolex reflecting its age but it is still good looking amp with lots of life left. Im just clearing stuff out as my kids are slowly taking over the house and there’s no space for this 😢. I can deliver locally , regionally for the cost of fuel. If you want to organise a courier I’ll pack it well. £200

Blockhead bass. Excellent condition. Plays superbly. Nice low action. Great tone. Been my main bass for a while but I’ve just bought my possible forever bass so I’m selling a couple. They’re too good to be sat at home doing nothing. If you want any more info don’t hesitate. Collection or a meet up please.

Bought this used about a month ago, for what equals about 30$. An ESP/LTD B4JR : It's not in production anymore, and a pretty rare find on the used market, though it is a cheap budget bass, still it usually goes for over 3 times what I paid for this one used. It's a just 28.5" scale length short scale bass, with a Basswood body, and a Maple neck with Rosewood fretboard. And after a thorough setup, and having the stock pickups, which honestly sounded decent enough, replaced for an EMG Geezer Butler P pickup, it sounds non less than amazing. Really nice tone, both finger plucked, but especially using a pick. Really punchy and snappy, very focused, tone, and the sustain is pretty substantial too. Even the low E sounds great, despite the short scale length. Though I have now strung it with coated Elixir Nanoweb guitar strings, of the gauges .068 - .052 - .038 - .028, tuned to tenor bass, A standard, tuning. It's also very light, the body being made of Basswood, which does make it prone to neck dive, but nothing a wide grippy strap can't solve (which the strap in the picture has been replaced with). Now the bad things, when I got it it had one of the most horrible setups I ever saw, and with loose input jack socket, that was easily fixed though, however the nut slots are cut way too high, and it got some pretty sharp fret ends, that you can literally cut your hand on if you are not careful, and will probably have fixed that too at some point by a proper luthier. The thin U shaped neck also took a bit getting used to, it is not exactly beefy, but it kind of felt that way at first, because of the neck profile being so round. The fretboard is pretty flat though, with a radius of 400mm (~16"), which I fortunately does happen to prefer. The frets are not perfectly leveled, but still well enough that I can get it to my preferred string action (about 2mm (~5/64") low E string at 12th fret) without any issues or string buzz whatsoever. Truss rod works as it is supposed to, and neck seems stable. Tuners are not the best, but they work just fine. All in all a lot of bass for merely 400 Danish Kroner (~30£), definitely satisfied with my buy. I named it "Dud Bottomfeeder Jr.". Love this little fella'.

I have two used Spector USA bass bridges that once belonged to NS2 basses I no longer own, I had taken these off in favour of black hardware. One is the heavy all-brass version, this has faded somewhat on the bass side. I’m not sure if this could be polished up. The other is the lighter, aluminium version, this one in better condition. It is considerably lighter. Note: these will not drop into a Euro bass without some re-routing to enlarge the space slightly. £150 for each bridge or £285 for the pair. Price includes UK shipping.

Sounds great! I made the mistake of googling Duesenberg Short scales and think I’ve fell in love with the Kavalier in red sparkle 😍 -
I had an hx stomp, was happy… then Krispn I think it was sent me a link to a colourbox at a decent price and there was a whole journey started… till I got a hx stomp again! Unless you have gig or transport reasons I don’t think it’s always an either or thing- some things the analogue circuits just sound better or are far easier to use with the controls
