Dood started following Thoughts on one-off bass masterclass sessions?
-
Back in 2011, I went to a Hartke masterclass with David Ellefson and Frank Bello, I ended up doing my first ever interview with both of them (Frank live on stage, so, no pressure) for a worldwide guitar magazine video and that's pretty much where it all started for me! So, you never quite know what you'll get! I've been to a good few masterclasses/clinics over the years. Some, you sit, listen and enjoy, others there's more participation offered. The inevitable Q&A session is in there and there might be a break out time to look at the gear and talk directly to the players. (This is especially important if a brand is supporting the masterclass and have a whole pile of products out for all to look at as well). Of those, tehre's never been an expectation to take your instrument, unless it has been specifcally billed as such. My favourite clinics have included Paul Gilbert, Doug Wimbish (another interview I've done), Andy James, my ole guitarist who now plays for Five Finger Death Punch, Brian May and, for nostalgia Geoff Whitehorn and the late, great Keith More, both flanking a wall of stacks in the Marshall Roadshows. Oh and Dave n' Frank, legends.

Paddy777 started following Markbass MB Mini Boost (Boost & VPF Filter)
-
Fantastic and practical little pedal this - massively boosts your volume and immediately creates a slap tone via a mid scoop and low & high end boost - works really well. This is used but in excellent condition and comes with original 12v power supply - tiny too so will squee onto most pedal boards no problem! Official blurb below: The MB Mini series of pedals from Markbass is made to the same high quality level as our standard effect line, but uses an ultra-compact, lightweight chassis. Smaller than other stompboxes, these incredible-sounding pedals will fit onto even the most crowded pedal boards, and the 9-12V power requirement means you can use them with any standard power supply. Give your pedalboard a “boost” with the MB Mini Boost—which also features our Variable Preshape Filter (boosts lows and highs, and cuts mids). Input: mono ¼” jack Input impedance: 1 Mohm / 6 Vpp Output: mono ¼” jack Output impedance: 470 ohm / 6 Vpp Boost Gain Level: from 0 to +20 dB Power requirements: DC Input +9/+12VDC* Dimensions: 48.4 x 38.2 x 105.2 mm / 3.23” x 1.5” x 4.92” Weight: 0.51 lbs / 230 gr * 12VDC power supply included

Ian said it to me more about the balance of the headstock actually. However, it's a valid point that people like Fenders. For all my time playing I've never owned a bass that was 3+1 until this. It is curious. I believe the 21 and 22 fret necks require the right heel and there's no overhang like say if you buy a Warmoth 21 or 24 fret neck with the fretboard overhang. It's worth saying that their own instruments now have the revised headstock instead of the square one which was a bit awful.

Hey JazzyJ, what are you using the Morningstar controller for if you don’t mind me asking please?
-
The Foto-Flame finish is thick, heavy, and once it starts to come off is going to carry one. This is not relicing, this is like old lino peeling off a kitchen floor. I've stripped two of them and both times the grain on the body was non existent so they do not take a clear finish unless bland is your thing. I think you need to ensure there's no residue from the chems in the FF before you start applying a new finish 👍

Just trying to pass on bargains to other BC members. These strings won't take months to arrive either. 😉 -
HeadlessBassist started following "Sadowsky" Metro Express Basses and Jazz Bass Refinish
-
I quite like it how it is - it looks well played, but if you want to refinish it, great Bear in mind that you may lose a little of the body resonance with a new coat of paint and poly gloss lacquer.
-
Apologies up front for not having read all 15 previous pages, but which far eastern workshop/maker produces the Metro Express for Sadowsky?

Thoughts on one-off bass masterclass sessions?

I went to a Marcus Miller one a few years back. Incredible experience! My advice would be go, listen, learn, and if you have a question ask it. I wouldn't say I learned anything in particular but I came away incredibly inspired. -
LMAO. Yup, Facebook. Has to be genuine. 😂
-
Yet they won’t let me advertise my old iPhone on Marketplace - they insist it’s counterfeit! As if a pro counterfeiter would be bothered selling something for £40! Unbelieveable.

ash started following Fender Mustang PJ MIM Spares Project Bass
-
Fender Mustang PJ MIM A feeler and please remove if it’s in the wrong section or if spares/repairs isn’t acceptable. I’m selling this as a spares project although it is functional albeit not pretty. I bought it earlier this year. It looked water damaged and an absolute mess. I bought it for the body and hardware and pickup parts, the plan being to strip it and buy a new neck for it. The neck had a lot of lacquer cracks and splits around the trussrod veneer at the back and headstock fascia. It needed some rewiring and a new tone pot and all the hardware cleaning with a wire brush. The finish was lifting in lots of places but there were no obvious cracks in the body - I thought about stripping it and finishing it with Tru-oil but haven’t got round to it. When it arrived I thought it wasn’t as bad as I had expected so I cleaned it up. Did the work on the pots, etc. the pickups were fine. I watched a video of rescuing a neck in similar condition and had a bash using epoxy resin. So I tried that and clamped it for a few days and gave it a light sanding to make it feel smooth under the hand. I’m no luthier, I just did it for as an experiment for fun. To my surprise the neck was okay to play and the trussrod worked and adjusted as it ought to. I have actually rehearsed and gigged with it as a spare for my old Fender Musicmaster. The headstock fascia and back has lots of hairline splits in it that I filled with titebond and clamped. They’ve been fine but again I wouldn’t really trust it as a main gigging bass. I must emphasise it’s probably best described as a Fender Mustang body (genuinely Roadworn bass) with a free neck. It’s a fun beater as is or you could put some more work into it to make it into a nice project. You could put another neck on it (I had bought a Bronco neck that unfortunately didn’t materialise thanks to a dodgy courier). The parts are all pretty decent after cleaning. It weighs around 3.7kgs. Here are pics, I can post more if there is interest. The last pictures are when I got it. God knows what had happened to the poor thing! No trades I can post in the UK for around £20.

My really nice P Bass which I would rate as being in excellent 9/10 condition with just a few play wear marks mainly to the pick guard, tiny piece of the headstock decal missing + small dings & play wear marks, the worst being near the bridge cover / rear strap button area - please see pics. The black line on the rear of the otherwise unmarked neck is ‘in the wood’ & not damage. The headstock is clean & free from damage. I’ve owned & played umpteen P Basses over the past half Century and I can honestly say that this is right up there with the best of them - in my humble opinion of course. Very low action all the way up the fingerboard with spot on relief thanks to level frets & a Pro set up which makes this P Bass very easy to play, plus very well balanced at 3.9kg, or 8.59lbs in old money. Fully functioning easy to turn both ways Truss Rod, which can be adjusted without removing the neck New set of La Bella Low Tension Flats just fitted. Fender USA superb quality C & G black hard case, with plush red interior included. Numbered Fender Certificate of Authenticity + both ashtrays, tug bar & Case Candy. Lovey playing / sounding P Bass that I’m sure the new owner will be ‘cock a hoop’ with! I believe these were based on a ‘63 P Bass rather than the newer American Original 60’s ll which I think are based on a ‘62 P? Specifications…… Serial Number: V2093899 with Certificate of Authenticity. Origin: USA Year: 2020 Body Material: Alder Colour: 3 Tone Sunburst Finish: Nitro Neck Finish: Gloss Neck Material: Maple Fingerboard: Rosewood - 9.5” radius Inlays: Clay Dots and side clay dots Pickups: Fender Pure Vintage ‘63 Split Single-Coil Precision Bass Electronics: Passive Controls: Volume, Tone Pickguard: Faux Tortoiseshell Hardware: Chrome Accessories: Covers and Certificate Frets: 20 String Spacing: 20mm Nut Width: 44mm Scale Length: 34” Weight: 3.9k Case Fender C & G Black Hard Case with plush Red Interior. Can post to the U.K. Mainland only sorry, via fully insured next day delivery - earliest would probably be next Thursday, due to the Bank Holiday. Or if you can collect then knock £75.00 off i.e. £1,675.00. Please feel free to message me if you would like any further information.

An easy win from the 'West Side Story', the tune 'I Feel Pretty' is essentially a duet between Grusin and flautist, Dave Valentin but there is a 90 second montuno groove in 6:4 at the 1:34 mark that is fun. Not massively difficult to play but, as with the 7:8 sections in 'America', you need to internalise the count and then it makes sense. https://bilbosbassbites.co.uk/i-feel-pretty-dave-grusin/

I've had that too. I get the email/barcode up on my phone, and get them to scan that. It's always worked for me.

For sale is my lovely Yamaha TRB-IIF 5-string factory fretless bass in trans blue. It's a 35" scale factory fretless version of the well-regarded TRB-II basses. Made in Japan between 1998 and 2004, these were top of the line instruments, featuring Yamaha Alnico single-coil hum cancelling pickups and Yamaha's TRB 'Q-mix' 3-band preamp. This is an absolutely lovely example; there's some very small dings on the top but otherwise it's amazing for a 25+ year bass. The serial no suggests it was made in 2000 (if I've read this guide correctly). It has 18mm string spacing, and is currently fitted with DR Legend flatwounds. I think I have some Rotosound tapewounds if you would prefer. A lovely low action and amazing fretless tone. Got Basschat strap holders on ATM - I'll remove those and the strap unless you desperately want them. I think £900 is a fair value, looking at some others for sale ATM, but happy to consider offers. I much prefer a meet up than posting so you can be absolutely happy with what you're buying, but will post (UK only) if you’re desperate. I’ve agreed to buy a bass so this is for sale only. Thanks for reading!
